Do you hate the 80's??

Do you hate the 80's??
And if so, why?
And if you don't, what is you problem?

Here's my reasoning. Almost everything good about music in the 70's was destroyed in the 80's. I'm not talking about styles, I'm talking bands and atrists. Shall I list them, yes I shall.

ZZTop
Aerosmith
Elton John
Billy Joel
Yes (I hate that "Owner of a Lonely Heart" crap)
Queen
Stevie Wonder
Miles Davis

Add more if you like...trust me, there's alot more.

I Love The 80's. What can I say, you just have to respect an age that filmed music videos at Renaissance Fairs with dancing midgits around a maypole.

I'm not much of a fan of 80's music...some of the movies that came out of the 80s were good, but the music...ah!

Come on... Tears for Fears, the Cure, the Smiths, and Michael Jackson when he was still black and still had a nose.

All I know is that the music my mom listens to from the 80s sucks. So I'll go with hating the 80s.

Music in the 80's was way better than anything thse days, I think. Pop music had personality. Styles of rock (like Punk Rock) were born. And Run DMC vs. 50 Cent, hmmmm...

Oh, and I have something for you G-Farce:
Move yourself
You always live your life
Never thinking of the future
Prove yourself
You are the move you make
Take your chances win or loser

See yourself
You are the steps you take
You and you - and that's the only way

Shake - shake yourself
You're every move you make
So the story goes

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

Say - you don't want to chance it
You've been hurt so before

Watch it now
The eagle in the sky
How he dancin' one and only
You - lose yourself
No not for pity's sake
There's no real reason to be lonely
Be yourself
Give your free will a chance
You've got to want to succeed

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

Owner of a lonely heart

After my own indecision
They confused me so
Owner of a lonely heart
My love said never question your will at all
In the end you've got to go
Look before you leap
Owner of a lonely heart
And don't you hesitate at all - no no

Owner of a lonely heart
Owner of a lonely heart
Much better than - a
Owner of a broken heart
Owner of a lonely heart

The 80's were good for some things. Even though Pantera sucked in the 80's (they were glam metal then), Slayer and Anthrax came from the 80's. And, while slayer has sucked ever since "Dire Bollocks in Musica", Anthrax is still rocking.

I thought Owner of a lonely heart sucked (I did half of my growing up in the 80's and early 90's where the 80's still had a huge influence until about 92 or 93).

Stuff I remember (that comes to mind at the moment) and liked...

MTV when it was real good (and played pretty much all music)
Bon Jovi
Guns and Roses
Metallica
Aerosmith (singing "Jamie's got a gun" on the school bus with some of the other kids LOL)
Michael Jackson (when he was still cool)
Genesis' "Land of Confusion" (nothing like a bunch of ugly puppets parodying politics and the brink of war, with even Phil Collins and the rest of Genesis portrayed)
Phil Collins
Crowded House
Full House
The Simpsons (yes, they grew out of the 80's... they are older than most of you on these boards)
Rubik's Cube
Madonna
Where's the Beef
the end of Rotary phones as we know it (I am probably one of the few who know how to use one on here)
Pat Benatar
Leg warmers
Atari, NES, Sega
Pound Puppies, Care Bears, My Little Pony, Rainbow Brite, Cabbage Patch Kids, Smurfs, and the Garbage Pail Kids collector cards/stickers
Ghetto Blasters (do you even know what one is?)
Fraggle Rock
The Oregon Trail/Odell Lake or StickyBear games in the classroom computer
Apple II's (before the Mac)
British Knights and LA Gears
Goonies
Star Search
Punky Brewster (I think we all knew how hot the actress who played Punky would become)
Pre-Indecent Exposure Pee-wee Herman
Teddy Ruxpin
Bangles
Popples
High-tops
Alf (Can anyone on here tell me what his "real" name is?)
Cosby
Mr. Belvedere
Transformers
Go-Bots
He-Man and She-Ra
Star Wars (that was a big thing in the 80's... not like it is now with the prequels).

Things I hated or hate now from the 80's
New Kids on the Block
Michael Jackson (now)
Big hair
Madonna (now)
Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles (my generation's Transformers/Power Rangers/He-Man/Pokemon)

So... you can see what I remember, what I like, and what I don't like (LOL).

A.L.F. = Alien Life Form.

And I don't care how many times I hear "Owner of a Lonely Heart" it pales in comparison to "Round-about".

I had my 12th birthday in 1980 so that decade took me right through until I was 22 and encompassed all of my formative years!
I have to say that I loved the 80s at the time although some of it makes me cringe when I look back with hindsight.

The music of the early 80s was truly revolutionary with the rise of the elctronic age. People who are slightly older than me sometimes lament the death of music but I disagree - who can argue against the likes of Soft Cell, Depeche Mode, The Human League et al? They shaped a whole generation of musicians and their influence can still be heard in most "pop" music today.
I'll agree that some of the great artists went bad in the 80s. "Proper" rock bands like Rainbow and Whitesnake (look in your history books kids!) went downhill rapidly but they were replaced by other great bands e.g. Iron Maiden.
The early 80s also rewarded fresh ideas in music, an ideology which has been sadly missing for a few years now. We live in an age of generic bands. They seem to be coming from a production line of acts, all with variations on the same song and packaged to perfection. Even rock, the last bastion of "real music", has been hijacked with highly processed pretty boys with image consultants, hair-stylists and that oh, so important grungy-but-your-mother-would-still-like-them look. Yes I mean Linkin Park.
There has been some great music since and there always will be but the 80s was the prototype, experimental decade and I love it for being that.

It did help that I joined my first band in 1985. We did U2 and Simple Minds covers and we were legends in our own bedrooms! We had some success - supporting The Alarm (Still got that history book?) and Primal Scream (before they were famous) but I got bored of them and joined the local "supergroup". We were brilliant, I've never worked with a finer bunch of musicians and we gigged for about 5 years around the UK, playing crowds into the thousands and living a watered-down version of the Rock n Roll lifestyle. We never got signed because our songs were awful but it didn't seem to matter. We were having too much fun to write anything decent!

The 1980s for me consisted of being introduced to some brilliant new music and taking in those influences before going out and doing it for myself. In a very limited way, I lived that dream for a while and if I had the chance to change anything, I wouldn't.

The 1980s rule, G-Farce. You leave them alone!!

I can't say too much bad about anything that origonated in the 80's...as mentioned before, I just hate what the 80's did to good things from the 70's. I mean, what happened to cars in the 80's....they shrank and they broke (though some of that started in the late 70s...damn you Mustang II). Sometimes bad things over-shaddow any good acomplishments.

One good thing is that 2 of my favorite bands started in the 80s. 311 and Red Hot Chili Peppers.
