If you have a DVD burner there should be a way to do it.

You only need a CD-RW drive. Check out http://vcdeasy.org/ and http://www.dvdrhelp.com/ for more info.

Are you getting the video from a camera? If so, you should just be able to hook the camera up to the TV. If its a MiniDV camera you can edit a video on the computer then put it back on your DV tape to play on the TV. All depends on what your working with.

I've done it many times before. Here is what you need.

*You do not need a DVD Burner. You can use a good old CD Burner.
*You will need a very good DVD player. Not necisarily a top of the line, but no Xbox or PS2 ones. You need one that came individually. It SHOULD work properly. It worked perfectly on mine.
*You need DVD Burning Software. This stuff is expensive, I reccomend Roxio Easy CD Creator 6. It includes the DVD builder (VCD also) and it great. My dad paid very little for it. But it costs about 100 bucks, but I will tell you, it is VERY worth it.

You should have it easy by then. With the handheld camcorder, you need EDITING software to make it look good. I'm not sure if you can directly upload it and convert it into MPEG.

Also, AVI is not compatable on a VCD, MPEG is although.

I use Nero, and when the trial expires I just download it again and get another 30 days. I probably should buy it, but it their mistake the trial doesn't expire if you re-download it.

The only problem with this is the program can't be longer than 80 minuites or you have to split it into under 80 minuite sections.

thats ok. i have nero - but what fromat ust the films be in? VCD is a format? So thats what myfilm.vcd file or something? I thought dvd players only read .mpeg files.

ok, my version of nero writes SVCDS. It says (although the help files aren't very clear) It must be in a "mpeg2" format. whats that?

Also, its complicated by Pal and ntsc. i don't understand this - a pal dvd should work on a ntsc tv as long as its region free right? Does the dvd player alter the signal type or does the disk have both types on it? neither sounds plausiable, its hard to convert one to the other i think.

SVCD means "Super Video CD" which does require a DVD Burner. See if Nero has VCD compatability.

When you first start the nero wizard it should ask you what type of media you are using then go to cd then other formats then video. Use the Wizard as it takes all the problems away.

the wizard is too patronising for me. I can cope with most things. Still, no one really said why i can't put SVCD (or whatever the right format is) and put it on to a cd, so a dvd burner can play it.

I've had the same problem. I tried the Nero wizard, and it works on my computer using a regular DVD program, but it will not work with my DVD player, which is supposed to have VCD capabilities. Any suggestions?
