No, Mr. Jim Pain, I didn't post the "I hate God" thing. I don't like Pearl Jam though.

Is someone going to get there undies in a bunch if I say "Pearl Jam Sucks"?

In response to a previous locked thread: It's so funny how these "Christians" LOVE to play the martyr role. Yes your JUST like Jesus. Being pelted with stones and crucified.. You know what I think your full of it. It's the people who say that they DON'T beLIEve in the bible that get trashed.

I have never said anything against your "savior". I have repeatedly stated that I do NOT believe in religious dogma. I believe there was a man who was not named Jesus, who realized he was God. In India if you say "I'm God" they say "what took you so long to realize it"? Where "Jesus" was they crucifiy you.

I believe Christ is a spirit, a spirit of light and love that you "can accept into your heart" to help you realize God, which I believe, is in EVERYONE. I believe, like billions of others around the world, that WE are God.. God is one. God is NOT separate from us.

I believe that only I can "save myself".
I don't believe in "eternal damnation". I don't believe the Earth was created in seven twenty-four hour periods. I don't believe that all human beings came from one man and one woman. I don't believe God is a "him". I don't believe that God is sitting 'up there' judging us, with the "devil", 'down there' tempting us. I believe that "sin" is necessary for growth. I could go on and on with what I do and don't believe in. I have now and in the past gotten angry, usually when people condemn homosexuals, and pull out their bible and say "it's wrong 'cuz the bible says so". I have a low tolerance for people who can't think for themselves. I admit it. I am NOT perfect. I also, am not a victim. I will not say I am being "picked on" or persecuted "like Jesus". I take full responsibility for my actions. I am also sorry that there are some of you out there who believe I am here just to get under people's skin and "start flame wars". I have beliefs that are equally valid as anyone else's. They just happen to conflict with others.

Anyway, I'm kind of rambling and I haven't been here in a few days. But what some of you are complaining about, all the talk of "religion and politics are off limits" stuff, I have found the boards to become more lively and real. Life is not all roller coasters and amusement parks. Life is messy and emotional, and if some of you can't handle that, you can keep your boards nice and clean and sterile and talk only of more trivial subjects.

[ This Message was edited by: Halation on 2001-06-17 16:42 ]

Alright, I must admit when I read some of your posts I thought you were here to start trouble, but that last one was well said and I respect your points and agree with quite a few of them.

Then again, other people believe differently, and will defend their points til they're blue in the face, so we'll see how this turns out...

Well put explanation. (No I don't like Pearl Jam either, but I like them more than I like Nirvana.)

I know I'll get flamed for this, but as far as Jesus is concerned, the one reason I accept him as the messiah is largely because he is one of the few spiritual leaders in history who didn't want to be anything more than a common man. That is, he didn't want to be looked at as a king, as God, but as our brother. If you take a full look at Jesus he basically preached peace, love, and tolerance. Said it himself in Matthew 22:37-39: "Love the Lord your God with all your heart and with all your soul and with all your mind and love your neighbor as yourself" and in John 13:34–35: "A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you love one another." Whether you consider that religious dogma or not, when you think about it all Jesus is saying is (and later echoed by Lennon & McCartney) "All you need is love!" Or as I often say Love the man, not his sins and love unconditionally.

Growing up Catholic, I've been in many churches, from Orthodox (Where they ignore the Vatican II ideas and the mass is still in Latin), to Conservative (Post Vatican-II yet still very uptight), to the Progressive (which may be an oxymoron, but this church was very "Politically Correct" if you get what I'm saying.) I still go from time to time¹, largely because I like to sing and play music, and because I get a kick out of people who act so "nice" trying to hide their darksides, but then shame their kids for misbehaving in church, and then cuss each other out in the parking lot trying to get out. I've been bashed by "enlightened" people for the following behavior at church: holding my girlfriends hand, and kissing her during the sign of peace, wearing a Stones T-shirt (the one with the tongue on it), wearing a derby hat in church, literally dressing up like a rabbi, farting in church (the acoustics make for some great long distance echoes), singing fifths to songs, and so on (not all in one day mind you, just on and off over the past 27 years), and I make no apologies for my behavior. We're all supposed to love each other unconditionally right? (funny how you never really hear much about that from the AFA, Pat Robertson, and all these other celebrity "ministers", but thats another story.)

Anyway I know this wasn't a religious discussion or flame war, and I know you were not trying to bash Jesus. You are welcome to your beliefs, and I am welcome to mine, whether or not people agree. As far as politics go, I'm free because I choose to be free, I don't trust anything that the government tells me, nor the media nor the press, nor big business; I don't really believe in my country (though I love the liberty I don't get caught up in all the cliches like yellow ribbons, and American flags, I consider them to be symbols and I leave symbols to the symbol minded.) Yeah life is rough, but hey, thats why we have the amusement and entertainment industry (although speaking for myself, I'd rather ride roller-coasters than listen or watch the movies, music, and television they pass off as entertainment these days.)

Oh yes, Sin comes from the word "Mistake" and as I have often heard "There are no mistakes, only lessons."

¹ One other hidden reason is because the preist opens his mouth so wide when he sings that I secretly want to sit in the front row and throw grapes in his mouth like the Three Stooges (but we won't get into that.)

1. No need to direct your entire statement at me.
2. You were being a problem and it was an effort to see if you had returned with a different user name.
3. Spell my name correctly.

Mr. Moderator, I will spell your name correctly if you apoligize for accusing me for the "I hate god" statement. Besides I don't like people telling me what to do.

Jim - You should've asked one of the mods of General Talk to use the IP feature to help determine if it was him under a different username, rather than just accusing him of it.
