Does Anyone Know What This Is?

I searched the boards plenty of times and saw that no one else had this problem. Okay, let me explain. I have this kind of spyware or something on my computer. I never voluntarily installed it, I don't know if it was automated, or if one of my brainless friends downloaded it. All I know is that it's there and it's a pain.

Okay, first know that I run Mozilla and not IE. However, there are some sites that require you to be using IE, and some sites which require IE to be in use to view some of their files. So, ocassionally I will activate IE.

Whenever I do, a really small box, about the size of a volume knob on a stereo pops up, which is titled as whaimager and displays a number. It also shows an OK button, which you have to press. You can't minimize it, and when you X out, it just pops right back up.

So you press OK and another number pops up. Then another, and another, and another, until you hit zero. When you do all kinds of things happen. First, your computer goes unimaginably slow, second porn pops up all over, and third my computer freezes.

Now when I'm alone, it's ok. I'll just crash my computer , I don't care. But what if my mom or dad or friend walks in. They'll think I'm some kind of pop up perv when it's really just my computer!

Anyone know of this problem or how to get rid of it?

By the way, Spybot doesn't work.

Thanks!

Have you run a virus scan with an updated virus program? That sounds a lot more like a virus than a spyware program to me. However, AdAware is another possible solution that may find it also.

The other thing you can try is to make sure you have the name spelled right, then do a Google search on it and see what you turn up. Should be able to find removal instructions that way.

Ah, yes. Another victim of the vast right-wing conspiracy...

Run the disc-defragment program. Also, delete your "temp files". Clear your cookies and run the newest version of Norton Anti-virus.

If that doesn't work, then take your computer to the top of the Empire State building and let go.

Try ad-aware, and what Magnum Robert said. I have to have spybot and ad-aware cuz what one doesn't get the other will.

If not, I would say wipe and start over. If that for some reason doesn't work, I suggest something like the CN Tower.

Good idea, I didn't try de-fragging it. (which is odd, I must be stupid or something.)

It's not that big of a problem, I mean I rarely use IE, but it's just a pain in the a*s.

Hit ctrl-alt-del and click the process (if it shows up) and then click end task.
