The Bowl Championship Series Rankings

What are your feelings on the current method employed by the NCAA for determining the matchups for the National Championship and other important bowl games? Hate it or love it? Fair or unfair?

I hate it. I am a supporter of a playoff type system.

I personally think they should have a tournament system like college basketball. Teams that lose a few games would still have a chance for the National Championship. Underdogs is what makes it interesting, not the teams that could beat everyone by 3 touchdowns. Nice sig CP Freak.

see the problem with a tournament is that in college basketball teams can play in consecutive days with no problems. In football though, they aren't used to playing more than once in a week. So the tounrament would take forever if they only played 1 round a week

That could happen if they had 32 teams instead of the 64 teams in basketball

I'd rather see a playoff system based on the current BCS system. Rather than teams having a month off (give or take) teams could use that time to start the playoffs. Take the top 16 BCS teams at the end of the regular season....#1 plays #16, #2 plays #15, etc...winner take all!

How vout 16 teams? 1/3/2004 you have the first round and narrow it down to 8; 1/10 you have the second round to narrow it down to 4; 1/17 you have the third round to narrow it down to 2 and on 1/24 you have the final game to determine the national champion. And you get it all done in a total of 22 days. At least that would open it up a little more. I still think there should be some sort of play off style national championship for NCAA football...

Let's look at the current standings, shall we? #1, Oklahoma; #2, USC; #3, OSU; #4 LSU; #5, Texas; #6, TCU. TCU?? Who? Oh yeah, that team from Conference USA who is NOT part of the BCS elite, yet they are ranked 6. Let's say this holds out til the end of the year and TCU plays in a major bowl game. I say, the BCS failed because we have seen NIU and TCU crack the BCS polls when the BCS isn't supposed to include teams like them. To the Big 6, all mid-majors are for is "practice". Yet these teams have pulled off some major upsets, and played some of these programs to the brink. How can you say your national champion is one team when you only include 6 conferences? You include all the conferences in the basketball tourney, so why should football be any different?

And a little off topic, the TOP team in the nation right now plays in Division III. Nice little school from Alliance, Ohio. Mount Union has won 93 straight.

I think the BCS needs to be taken out of the playoff picture, and go with the top 8 teams in the polls. Thats more fair than the BCS, IMO.

College Football needs real national champions on the field. Until then, there is no national champions in college football.

BTW, BCS has one extra letter in it.

First, the BCS has the bowl system we enjoyed screwed up. I used to love to see Michigan go to the Rose Bowl once in a while... now that's next to impossible with the way the BCS is set up.

Second, I think it robs other teams of a real chance at a national championship. I think they either need to go back to the old way or go to a more exciting playoff format like what Division I-AA, II, and III use. The reason why I say it is more exciting is because I watched my alma mater go through the Division II playoffs twice and win one national championship (losing the other one at the championship game I might add by a very close margin).

I also dislike it.

I think it should be like the NFL, you should play until you have a "superbowl" and that decides the national winner.

They do it with basketball, why not football???
