Day After Thanksgiving Shopping

So, who among us plans to hit the malls (and the crowds) for shopping on Friday? And if you are, why (or why not, for that matter)?

My husband and I plan to be up before 6am to trek to WalMart (probably) for a couple of small kitchen items. We always go out early on this biggest shopping day of the year, but we're never really after the "hot" items so we don't get trapped in the worst crowds. For us, it's all about the tradition and really kicking off the holiday shopping season; we don't start gift shopping until after Thanksgiving, either for one another or anyone else we buy for.

Let's see, two years ago we bought our futon for $80 (in two years, it's never been priced lower) the day after Thanksgiving, and that was an adventure -- it was our first year being part of the madness, and it was a bit overwhelming. We had to drag the thing in the cardboard box through the aisles at WalMart because there was NO WAY we'd land a cart. Last year, then, we tackled Best Buy for some sale DVDs (we'd just bought our DVD player a couple of days earlier), but again, not the "hot" items.

Pretty much all day we'll be shopping of some variety or another, and then that evening we'll go to the city celebration when the city Christmas tree is lit (complete with caroling and fireworks). A long day, but longer still on tradition!

No. I hate shopping and won't be doing mine on a day when practically everyone else is.

No way. I hate shopping, and about 95% of people at the mall find some way to piss me off. They could walk in my way or ask me about dumb stuff, and then I would get mad and crap. It's not the people doing holiday shopping, it's all those girls influenced by Hillary Duff to "Spend all your money till you're broke!". Since it's so fun!

I'm staying home, and not going within any radius of a shop, except for a snow shop, EB, or Electronics Store.

LAst year, i was with in the furst 20 people in line for Circuit City! I wanna work on this day. It would be incredibly interesting. I wanna work in a retail shop. But i'm not old enough. Shoul i ? Should i not... decisions, decisons, decisons! Good luck to fellow shoppers! and keep your cool! :)

absolutely no way, i had to work till 2:30 thanksgiving morning setting up for the stupid sale. At my work (Best Buy) I guess there are at least 20 people that camp outside the store just to be first ones in the day after. last year we had 600 people in the store within first 10 minutes open, there were people fighting over carts, one guy actually was shoved down. Also this year dunkin doughnuts is going to have a stand outside giving free doughnuts and coffee to the crazy people in line, so itll just fuel their desire. Im soo icredibly lucky to not have to work the day after till 5 pm. THANK GOD

Never. I never even get near the mall during the long weekend. Way too crowded.

I did it once, and I'll never do it again. I went to pick up a DVD/VCR Combo from BestBuy that was dirt cheap a few years back for a gift for my parents. I couldn't find a parking spot and waited in line for 45 mins. just to check out. It sucked.

From now until Christmas is our time to sit back and revel in the glory of never having to go through this madness. We start shopping after New Years when stores are trying to unload all their leftover items.

Well, we went out to some really big names this year -- Toys 'R Us, Target, Walmart, Circuit City, and the mall (one of them, anyway). We left just about 5:45am, and were home by 10am, not a big deal. Of course, we weren't after the "big ticket" items that everyone fights over, and we didn't get anything at either Target or Walmart (just checking stuff out, and it wasn't what we were really interested in). It's a fun tradition, but not for everyone! I did get 4 of my husband's gifts at really great deals, though, cheaper than I'd be able to pick up after today.

I woke up this morning. (Friday) at about 11:30. I was up till 2:30 AM last night playing counterstrike, so the good thing is. I missed all the madness! Yay!

Waiting in line. You think we'd be used to a measly 45-minute wait, Bryan! :D

I've always told myself that I won't shop on this day. I find it ridiculous. Sure there are great deals there, but it drives me nuts that everyone has to go shopping on this day. Come on, people. Don't buy into this corporate crap.

Anyway, I'd been able to avoid shopping then because I just stayed home. Two years ago my mom was in town and she was leaving the next day. I had to buy something for my then-girlfriend. I went to Kmart and bought a camera for her. Yippee. It was crowded and I didn't really like it. What I was more upset about was that I actually bought something on that day. "Never again!" I told myself.

I'm going shopping today. But only for myself. I need a George Foreman grill, pants, shoes, and other stuff.
