Bush Visits Iraq [That Was Crazy] Discussion

For Thanksgiving, the President visited soldiers in Iraq under ultra secrecy. The story didn't break until the Commander in Chief was underway back to the United States.

First of all, Bush had some serious courage to go in there, even if it was secret. Secondly, I am really impressed he did go. I'm sure it really boosted morale for a lot of our servicemen and women there.

Overall, I am just astounded by the whole thing. This sort of reminds me when Richard Nixon left the White House in the middle of the night and went to the Lincoln Memorial and just talked to peace protestors during the Vietnam War.

I think it's

Yeah, that's crazy. It's not uber-crazy though if he went to a military base, which is safer than other places (like Baghdad). I think it's more along the lines of a campaign booster but it is still nice that he went. It's a lot better than geting on a radio or something and saying happy thanksgiving to the soldiers.

That had to take a lot of courage. I’m very impressed that he did this. I’m sure the soldiers in Iraq enjoyed seeing him.

Anyway Way to go Bush!!! :) :usa:

This was all just a huge attempt at propaganda by the imperialist George W. Bush, who doesn't really care at all about the American troops he sends to their deaths so that he and his cronies may profit from oil.

I just figured I'd post that and save Skye the trouble.

Yeah, that was a pretty big "whoa" moment when that happened.

Humor like that is what caused Hitler to begin the LOLocaust.

BTW, he did fly into Baghdad International Airport, but en route the plane did use the normal "Air Force One" callsign to maintain secrecy.

I think he just went there for image, to make him look good and that he cares about the Iraqi civilizations. Maybe he should look for some weapons of mass destructions.

These Thoughts=Mine.

Of course, to some people, anything decent the President ever does will be deemed as "only done so as to better his image".

Come on, this took a great deal of courage, selflessness, and leadership to do. The fact that this man would choose to spend his Thanksgiving half a globe away in a dangerous part of the world, without his family, just shows that he's the leader I want in charge of this nation.

You da man, Dubya! :usa:

Um...that's what it was. It's not JUST a "Dubya" thing, politicians the world over do stuff like this all the time.

I heard that Bush was the 1st President to visit Iraq. I'm kind of surprised by this---especially after all of the millions of dollars that Clinton spent traveling the world. I would have thought for sure that Clinton would have paid a visit to his buddy, Saddam.

Granted, you have to at least give the guy credit for going to a country swept by anarchy, which wouldn't have happened if we hadn't invaded in the first place. I would have thought better of the man if he just celebrated Thanksgiving at home with his family.

You guys really give them no chance. As soon as you see a politican reading a book to children, spending time with their constituents, or cutting the rope at a new hospital or something, you are so quick to say that it was only done so as to make themselves look more "compassionate" or whatever. They're people just like you and me, and believe it or not, they also want to do good things.
