Different Places to Pay for Parking

In the movie / theater going preferences thread, there was a mention about movie theaters charging for parking. I'd never heard of this before, so it got me thinking -- where are some unusual places you have to pay for parking? Of course, we all know about amusement parks, valet parking (restaurants, resorts), airports, parking meters, parking stickers (universities, work), and special events (fairs, concerts, sporting events), but where else do you know? Here we have some pay lots downtown, especially on the riverfront, but there are some other areas you can park that might not be quite as convenient but are free.

So, where else do you know that you have to pay for parking? (Please don't mention only the common ones above!)

SCHOOL of all places! $20 dollars a year. Thats a rip-off! (i think) They need so much money that they have to charge for it! And the roads/parking lots sucks too!

Parking at my school is $175 for a year. And only seniors and half the junior class can get a parking space.

$15 for my school parking. Knoxville, you are getting ripped off man, that must suck. I'd probably ride the bus over paying that kind of money just to drive to school. No other place unusual that I can think of though.

Okay, I'd forgotten about schools (I never had a car in high school; I walked the mile and a half no problem, really, and about the same distance the other way to work). Schools down here charge as well, but the fees vary. Where else?

Plus, only seniors get spaces, and not even all of them. I think I might pay $90 a semester to park at a friend's house next year so I can go to zero period. Plus, that way I won't have to bum a ride off my parents or my brother if I have to show up to work at 4.

The most unusual place was when we went to a museum for bonus in a class, and we had to pay for parking across the street. I don't really think that's even that odd though. I've never heard of a movie theater charging for spaces though. That's crap.

At my school, its $20 for parking all yearlong. All seniors that want a pass get one, and the remaining passes are raffled to the junior class.

I can't believe some of you guys have to pay over $100.

At my school freshmen and sophomores don’t have to pay to park, but they park in a lot behind the baseball, soccer, and football fields. The juniors have to pay $25, and the seniors get to park for free.

Some apartment complexes near me charge for a covvered garage or enclosed garage. Or you can elect not to pay anything and park your car out in the "elements."

I'd pay for a garage like that any day... It stinks that we have to have our car out in the open the way we do, but oh well.

Melissa, what kind of car is it? If it's a pretty nice (or new) car then I could see why you'd be concerned, but otherwise I don't think it'd be that big of a deal. Maybe that's just because I'm going to have to park my car outside since we allready have three cars and only a two car garage.

I pay $0.00 for parking at my school. :D. Anyways, that kind of sucks you guys have to pay. But I'm guessing your school is much larger then ours. We have about 1,200 kids at our school. We have a big parking lot, plus not everyone can drive due to money issues.

Hm, strangest place to pay? Proabobly this ski resort we skied at. But the parking spot was sweet. Plus it was my friends error. "If we have 4 or more it's free" then we found out "Oh sorry dudes, its 4 or more passangers!"

I'd say ts worse in the snow states Melissa. I have to go out and buy snow blades for the car so my regular ones don't get screwed up.

As far as highschool, I think we payed an extra $15 to drive, but only juniors and seniors could drive to school. Then obviously for college, the permit price has jumped up to around $50/semester.

Here, in Toledo, many offices are Downtown - Lawyers, banks, courts, newspaper, police station, main library, some city utilities offices, the farmer's market - and, except from 11am to 2pm, street parking is mostly pay and of course the parking lots/garages are all pay. Plus, downtown space is at a premium so good luck finding a spot - which is why our downtown is so dead - parking has been a problem ever since they started this city. The malls have large free parking lots, but they are building an addition on to our largest mall and 2 parking garages. Methinks they'll start charging for parking soon!

Also, our hospitals charge for parking (most of them).

And parking at the Univ. of Toledo is $125 a semester!

Too bad the city can't charge a parking fee for all the Jeeps that have been made but not sold! We'd be rich!
