Interested in hearing arguments

I'm a big nerd studying sociology at York University and I enjoy throwing hypotesis' out in the air and seeing whether or not they can be proven. So with your help I want to conduct a minature study on this thing. I hypothesize that those that are coaster freaks dont think of an amusement park as an ideal first date because to them amusement parks symbolize a form of relaxation and hobby in a sense, the pressures from a first date would only then ruin the eased mind coaster freaks experience while at these parks. Arguments supporting or rejecting my thesis are much appreciated....Feel free to bash it all you want...It just makes it more fun for me!!

Untrue, I think it'd be a great place for a first date. You'd have all day to get to know each other, where as if you go to dinner and a movie, you really only have like an hour to talk and then you sit watching a screen for 2-3 hours. Plus, if she's remotely scared of coasters, but will ride them anyway, it gives you a great reason to hold her hand and such.

See, I agree, but I've noticed that hardcore coaster freaks would actually get annoyed with a dates hesitation or fear because it would take away from the coaster freaks excitement. For instance, my boyfriend is a thrill freak and he took me on xtreme skyflyer (the freefalling/bungee jump thingy) for the first time and I wanted to hold his hand the whole time because I was too afraid to let go. Truth be told, I could tell that this annoyed him...he wanted to fly like a bird with his arms spread out because of his excitement, but me, being his new girlfriend, prohibited him from doing such. Supporting my hypothesis that this wouldn't be the 'ideal' first date for those that are addicted to thrill....

I think an amusement park is a great place for a date, and my girlfriend (who is also an enthusiast) agrees. Although it may not be the most romantic setting, in my view, a relationship should also be about fun in addition to the romantic aspect of it, and a park is certainly a great place for fun. Think of it this way. You have several hours, if not the whole day, to get to know each other and enjoy each other's company. You've got everything you need, and if you feel like a little privacy, you can always retreat to one of the back areas of the park. Sounds like an ideal situation to me.

Again, I appreciate this point of view and totally agree except for the fact that my statement deals with the ideal first date, not general date in a relationship (the comfort levels are different in both scenarios). However, I hadnt taken the consideration that the partner on the first date is an ethusiast too- you got me in that aspect. Good job, I have no opposing views for your opposing view.

Well, even if it was a first date, I think an amusement park would be a great place. Nothing like enjoying a scream on a roller coaster to break the ice, so to speak.

What about if he/she is one of those people that 'don't go on rides' and so you have this idea of how the date will go, only to find out that shes only up to going on the floating swans and the merry go round? What about the pressures having to make conversation with him/her during those 3 hour waits in the hot sun...silent moments are awkard but heat, uncomfortable silent moments....seems like it would be a major downer on the coaster freaks' experience at the park.
Once again- supporting my original hypothesis.

I think an amusement park is the perfect place for a first date. At amusement parks, I lose my inhibitions, I am completely relaxed, and I have a great time. If I was having trouble telling an interest something anywhere else, it would come out at an amusement park.

Of course this is only a theory of mine. I've never gone on a date and I don't live near amusement parks.

But amusement parks are extremely fun places. You can learn a bit about someone at an amusement park. I think it's ideal because I'm just so totally relaxed.

Ya you're right. The feeling of relaxation can then lead to easier conversation flow. Great correlation you made...however, I think when in the situation that is easier said than done. I've been on numerous first dates that took me miniature golfing and even though we were playing a somewhat sport, there were some awkward silent moments. I think the dinner idea is better because then you can keep your mouths busy with the food when you are left with nothing to say and quite frankly there's no really ruining a restuarant experience. I could see, from my personal experiences, why coaster freaks may be veered away from going to an amusement park alone with someone they hardly know....it may defnitely not be their idea of fun.

I disagree. I beleive it's a perfect place to get to know your partner. Throughout the day at a park, you'll be able to face a range of different situations with this person. From eating with them, waiting with them, and yes, going on rides with them, you'd be able to get to know them better than if you were going to a dinner and movie, just because you get to spend more time with each other talking. I do agree that there may be akward moments, but if you really click, you'll be able to think of things to say, and if you really click those akward silences aren't akward.

I think the coaster freaks you speak of who don't want to take someone on a first date to an amusement park are probably too scared to show their love of coasters. They don't want to scare a potential partner away. They may be afraid of doing too much. As a coaster enthusiast, if they enjoy a coaster they'd probably want to ride it again. And again. And again. If your date isn't that into coasters, that might be a little weird or crazy.

Not going to an amusement park on a first date is a good way to keep that potential partner in sight. :)

I think it would be a bad idea to take someone to a park for a first date, due to the fact that if you came together, then you can't get away from each other if you end up hating one another.

At least at Starbucks or whatever you can cut it short and go your seperate ways.

Just to play devil's advocate ;)

I think an amusment park would be a great first date...I love just being at parks, even if I don't get to ride big rides. If one datee was a thrill seeker and the other wasnt and they went to a park like BGTB, they could still see the animals and such. Maybe you could even turn them into a coaster lover...just an idea though.

Side note...I think it'd be cool to be like proposed to on a coaster...like going up the lift...you might have to scream over the clickity clickity of the chain though. I guess the ring would have to be given after though...just so it's not dropped...XD
