Some of thoose claims might not be true, but the whole situation - keeping people like that and refusing access to a lawyer and legal system goes against the whole system of democracy the uk/us are supposed to be protecting.
Any normal person - pro or anti war - should see that these people should be tried in courts or released.
It's a dangerous step - how long before goverments do the same thing to their own people?
edit: mods - this is not a political disscussion at all. No one mention poltics! |

| | | It's a political thread in guise. This thread is probably going nowhere.
I also think you have nothing better to do than whine. But that's just my opinion. |

| | | Despite my feelings on the subject, which I won't go into, I'm pretty skeptical of any publication resembling the National Enquirer, so I'm rather disinclined to believe the story.

| | | Any discussion on government issues is politics. I'm not going to close it, yet at least.
I don't see any legit argument on his behalf, not even a picture of a scar. |

| | | well maybe...but theres a key difference - its not about party politics it's about how goverments are acting now.
I am surprised it hasn't been locked - but that dosn't mean i think it should.
Yeah the torture claims are dubious - but the imprisonment without a lawyer isn't, and so leads to lots of valid questions about both goverments handling of the prisoners, and the whole situation. |

No one's making fun of your mother. No one's calling a country a "piece of crap." There are no attacks happening here. It's all legit discussion.
But if you want us to close it, we'll do it. We'll close every thread you made too. Is that what you want?
Yeah the torture claims are dubious - but the imprisonment without a lawyer isn't, and so leads to lots of valid questions about both goverments handling of the prisoners, and the whole situation.
There are special circumstances in times of war. Imprisonment without a lawyer seems a little reasonable. But if they tortured them, then something should be done. But it's all up in the air now.

| | | i think you missed the point of my post above. it was meant to be serious. anyway dont worry about it too much.
Those claims probably arent true but they were still kept out of the legal system - that isn't democratic. Thats what isn't right. |

| | | Um, I dont think a person who is captured because they are an enemy are even susposed to get a lawyer. Its not like they were on trial. They were being questioned since he could have possibly been a terrorist and caused risk to the country. And I do agree that the magazine is most likely an Enquirer type magazine filled with tons of BS. And I also think the guy is lying and overexagerating everything to make the U.S. look bad.
Edit: I went to the website, and they say "Mirror.co.uk is the online edition of The Daily Mirror, Britain's brightest tabloid newspaper." And tabloids are never true.

| | | They weren't captured/arrested in our respective nations' borders, therefore they are out of our courts' jurisdictions.
Sure they may have been hit, beaten, and so on (I doubt torture though), but what you're probably not hearing is that the prisoner may have assaulted a guard or may have otherwise been starting trouble.
That's assuming this article is legit, which is it probably not. |
