| | | Life As A Black Man In a board game called "Life as a Black Man," every player is a struggling 18-year-old black male. Chuck Sawyer, says he created the game to educate the masses, using his own experience growing up in California.
"I want everyone to be aware about life as a minority," Sawyer told ABCNEWS. The goal: to make it from any one of four starting points ? the ghetto, the military, the entertainment industry or the halls of a black university ? to the end of the game board, a place called "freedom."
Along the way, however, are what Sawyer says are typical pitfalls for young black men. If you land you on a space called "racism," for example, you might draw a card that reads: "You're pulled over by police for driving a new car, back two spaces."
In two months, Sawyer has sold 10,000 games. But as ABC's Steve Osunsami reports, not every black family is running to get one. Many, he says, just don't buy the humor.

| | | Well, this will be a contraversial thread no doubt. I do think that racism exists but not always as much as people want to think it does. Some (and I stress the word SOME) think that when somethings happens to them like the scenario mentioned, all of a sudden its because they're black. I'm white! And when with friends either walking or driving, I've been stopped by police! Was it because I was white?!?! I have a white friend who was beaten by some cops during his teenage years because they thought he had done something wrong when he clearly didn't. The cops were wrong with what they did in that incident. But again my friend was white and I believe that the cops were too, so obviously this couldn't have been racism...could it have been?
Just as with any job, there are bad people, but it really bothers me that police officers as a whole get a bad reputation for what a very rare few have done. Imagine doing their job, trying to help and protect people and yet getting very little respect from some for doing it. I honestly think that most racism is merely imagined. That those who always want to claim racism can't stand that life sometimes simply has hardships and would rather take the easy way out by blaming others. I think that in reality, there is more reverse racism than anything else.
I'm tired of because I'm a white male being made to feel that I'm to blame and that I'm an evil person. Why should I feel responsible for slavery which existed well over a hundred years ago and not one living person had anything to do with. There already is affirmative action, quotas and other programs set up to help and there is even talk about reparations too...give me a break! I hate being referred to as "the man" because I'm white. Where's my mansion? My awesome car? My trust fund? I'm the same as anyone else regardless of skin color. It bugs me that some people think that by being white, it gives us all this huge advantage in life. We're all people, but because of reverse racism, it continues to seperate us!

| | | I thought it was a stupid idea too, but he sold 10,000 the first two months or so (this story dates back a couple years). So he's the one laughing---all the way from the Ghetto, military, entertainment industry, or a black university---to the BANK.
Perhaps I should start a similar game dedicated to the Irish, Asians, Indians, etc---historically, they've all been mistreated. |

That's a good point because people of ALL races and nationalities and also sexes, including sexuality have been mistreated and persecuted at one time or another. I think that it is important to look ahead to the future and not always focus on the past.

| | | That's not a good idea at all! Injustices happen all over the world in many different forms. If we were to make a board game to allow others to wear the shoes of all those that are oppressed then Toys R Us would be the size of a continent!! How about I make a board game up called "Life in the day of a woman"??...thats ridiculous...

| | | We are all persecuted on a daily basis. If not by race then by age; if not by heritage then by the way you dress; if not for the music you listen to then its your political beliefs...especialy the later personaly. You don't see me putting out a "life as a liberal" board game do you?

| | | Although I disagree with the "every black man faces discrimination every single moment of every single day" I do agree some people even in this day and age have a stupid mentality towards people who are different than they are. In the beginning we all looked alike, due to our bodies adjusting to the environment we live in for centurys to make it easier for us to deal with our environment, deep down we are all the same...

LMAO! This reminds me of MadTv's parody of Monopoly called Welfare. The game ends when one of the players gets a job.
