| | | Buy/Sell: Clinton Portis For all of you Around the Horn fans, it's buy or sell time.
Do you bull or sell the Redskins giving up a second round draft pick and Baily for Portis, and do you think that Portis is the missing piece of the puzzle that will give the Redskins their elusive play-off bid?

| | | Buy, for sure. Clinton Portis has as much talent as any running back in the NFL, and keep in mind last year was only his second year. He will make the Redskins very happy in the near future. Is he the Redskins missing piece? Maybe. Joe Gibbs taking over for Spurrier will help the team already, and with the addition of Portis, they have a very fast team with Laverneus Coles at wideout. I think they'll make the playoffs, but lose in the first round for lack of ability at QB.

What are you talking about? How about leading the league in yards per carry with 5.5, gaining 1500+ yards in 1st 2 seasons.

Yes! I hate to see my man JL fall, but this might be Portis' year.
PS Thanks for the correction vidgms2!

| | | CP has only been in the league for 2 years, this will be his third. Portis has just over 3000 yards in 2 seasons. He had a 5.5 average for the year. The Broncos won't really miss him because they also have traded Deltha O'Neal to the Bengals for their 1st round pick. That means that the Broncos have the 17th pick.

| | | Anyone can get 1000 yards in Denver. They always have a high rusher on their team.

Thats because they have a history of talented running backs....Clinton Portis took over from Terrell Davis, who had a 2,000 yard season in 1998, and was second in the NFL in rushing yards the previous two seasons...MVP caliber player. Before Davis, no real poweful running backs, just mediocre players to offset Elway's arm. Denver's offensive line is always strong, but to say thats the reason for Portis's success makes no sense.
If he's injury free, he will lead the NFC in rushing.

| | | -1 Mute for CoasterPhil (if only I could actually do that on the boards)
Why do you think that they get all of these high rushers? Magic?
They actually have to have talent. Sure they have a great line, but they have great rushing coaching, and get talent.

| | | Hey coastergenius, cool idea with the "around the horn- buy or sell". I don't follow football too much in the offseason, so I won't get into this particular discussion. But it would to see more topics from you later. Maybe also "food chain" from PTI. I'll be Tony Kornheisher because "that's it, I'm right, I win!"

| | | Yeah, I love those shows too. They're the only thing that get me through the day when I get back from school/Track practice at 5, and I'm awaiting a night of homework.

| | | I'm gonna have to sell this one. Any back that runs behind that line in Denver is going to have phenomenal numbers. TD, Mike Anderson, Olandis Gary, and even Quentin Griffen in the Colts game last year. Portis will not be the answer to the Skins problems, but Brunell might be. |

To point out those backups, each had ONE good game last year, probably partially due to the Denver O-Line. Griffin's game against Indianapolis last year was also a big part of the Colt's run defense sucking. The Colts gave up 100 yard games to such lesser running backs as Michael Pittman and Dominack Davis, neither of whom should get 100 yards a game on any decent defense.
And Mark Brunell as an answer for the 'Skins? Brunell hasn't had a solid season since 2001, and if he stays healthy the whole year it will be a miracle. The Redskins don't have a strong enough O-Line to protect Brunell, and he will likely be injured again. Portis, however, has the agility and speed to make up for the holes in the O-Line and carry Washington into the playoffs.

| | | Portis can't carry the Skins into the playoffs. He can however give them a good chance. The team as a whole has to play well and over the past few seasons well not a few but since they played the Lions in the playoffs 5 years ago?, both teams haven't had any good seasons.
