|
Have you ever intentionally eaten insects?
I'm going to catch hell in this thread from AZ RIDER, but I don't care.
Yes, I have intentionally eaten insects. When I was (a lot) younger, I ate moths, grasshoppers and ants. My dad told me that people could survive on bugs if they were ever in the wilderness without food. He was an outdoorsman, and he may have learned some of this from the Army.
The point is, I thought my dad was the greatest guy in the world and that bugs would be an interesting dish. So I caught the little ones as they were near our porch light, took their wings off and ate them. Moths really had no flavor. Grasshoppers were chewy. You have to remove their legs, because they're like wires.
I only ate one type of ant: carpenter ants. They're the big black ones. They store honey or some sugar-like substance in their abdomen, so they taste sweet. It's neat.
I really wouldn't recommend doing this. I was a lunatic. But now I'd try cooked bugs, chocolate-covered bugs or whatever else they do. It's something different and new to me! As long as it's not expensive, I'd give eating bugs a shot.
