Anyone else seen Depeche Mode live? Saw them in St. Paul and they were awesome. My fiancee, who went to Dave Matthews, said they were better than him (I would hope so, as I am not a Matthews fan). If you think they are wimpy "synth pop", you need to see them live...Awesome

DEPECHE MODE IS AWESOME AWESOME AWESOME!!!!!
I saw them at the Great Western Forum during their "Songs of Faith and Devotion" tour. so great! I need to get their new CD, Exciter, ASAP. And I wish I would've gone to the Violator concert, but I had no $ at the time, and no one I knew who liked them enough to go to a concert.

They do use a lot of synth. I love it, but some peeps don't. It all depends on the band. For instance, DM blows the tar out of let's say Ace of Base! haha

Kinda neat to see them making a comeback. I'm out of the loop a bit and haven't even heard their new album yet. But way back whne I was in high school they were one of my favorite bands.

Seemed like whenever we went to San Francisco we would be blasting them as loud as the car speakers would let us. Can't help but think of SF now anytime I hear them.

So, Sir Willow, you must know the song "Blasphemous Rumours". "...I don't wan't to start any blasphemous rumours, but I think that God's got a sick sense of humor, and when I die... I expect to find him laughing". Sure got me thinking.

Anyways,.... what's wrong with "synth pop", if you have to categorize it. Would you call the Beatles "guitar pop"? Depeche Mode just happen to use synthesizers, guitars, string sections, 'ethnic' instruments, anything that sounds good. Using synthesizers, in my opinion, is part of the "Punk" rock D.I.Y.(do it yourself) ethos. They were and are cheap, and anyone could do it. They showed you don't have to be some virtuoso wanker i.e. Eddie Van Halen or Phil Collins, to make good music (where are THEY now??).

Man Halation, just had to go out of your way to make sure you got an insult or flame in there didn't you? Kinda sad that your posts always seem to tend that way. And you actually expect people to listen to, or respect you, when you do that?

Also, as I said in my post, I listened to them when I was in high school. That was over 10 years ago, before I was a Christian and before that song came out. Though I'm really wondering why I'm explaining myself to you about that.

You must have missed his point then. There were specific reasons that he was sure to point out one specific song, and one specific line- notably because of how it relates to my Christian faith that I have spoken about in other threads. If you hadn't been involved with those you would have missed it. But it was a definate barb at me because my faith represents something that he can't stand.

Though I will say this, that was probably the most polite flame that he's put up so far. And perhaps I did overreact a bit, but it's in reaction to his entire record two, of which this post is a very small example.

Sir Willow, I'm really sorry your so easily offended. That wasn't my point, it just related to our other discussions. I just thought I would point out the lyric of a band you had liked. It's really interesting that people think I am trying to incite your dreaded "flame Wars". Why is it religion is such a touchy subject?

Kraften, I did sense that you were insulting them, you did say "they are synth pop, you can't ignore the genere". What were you trying to say?? That they are not a "real band" because they use synthesizers? Also I did not say they were better ther than Dave Matthews. I said My fiancee saw them both and like DM better, and that I am not a Dave M. fan O.K.?

Sir Willow, I think it's really too bad when someone who disagrees with you or questions Christian dogma, that you take it as a personal attack. My point in stating the lyric was that "it" is a recurring theme in Depeche Mode's lyrics. I was wondering what you thaought of it. Obviously you find them insulting. I'm sorry you feel that way.

Like I said, I may have overreacted. I also pointed out that it was a long time ago that I listened to them, and haven't in quite a few years. Hence my unfamiliarity with that particular song.

I will say that if your post had been from anyone else, I probably would not have reacted the way I did. Forgive me for making it personal between you and me.

But threatened by an attack on my beliefs? No, since I am not just comfortable but confident in them. It is the personal attacks and eager attempts to irritate for the sake of creating controversy that get to me- regardless of the person's point of view.

So tell me, do Depeche Mode still sound like they did 10-12 years ago? I hear they are still synth pop.
