| | | Last years black out On the news they kept saying "today marks the year after the blackout" and it got me thinking. Were was I and how did I find out that the electricity was out?
I remember I was at a friends house and i turned on a light but it wouldnt go on.I thought I broke it but then his neighbor came and thought she didnt pay her electricity bill :p
So the question is: Where were you on the day of the blackout and how did you find out? |

| | | I found out about the blackout when I pulled into the Shell station by Rye Beach exit/Cleveland Rd in Huron (on my way to CP) and the pumps didn't work. Of course the tank was on empty when I pulled in, so I was stranded for a couple of hours. I made the most of the experience, though, so I can't complain. |

| | |
i was driving with my dad up to connecticut where he had to go to a meeting this morning (friday) and then right after it, both of us were going to go to lake compounce. so it was about 4:10, we just drove across the G.W. bridge and we were listening to mike and the mad dog on he radio. the radio shuts off. we didnt think much of it, we didnt even notice it turned off. so maybe about 20 minutes later my dad remembers the radio was on. he tried turning to differant stations and the only one that was working was wcbs which sean hannity was on talking about the whole thing. so we listen to him the whole way through the TONS of traffic on the highway all the way up to connecticut. my brother was on a plane comming back from mexico city to newark when it all went out but he was one of the last planes they allowed to land. nothing really special. btw, we did make it to lake compounce and im about to write my trip report.
that was a quote from last year's thread of the same topic

| | | It was a big deal. Why would they be talking about it now?
Some parks (at least PCW) was closed for a few days. Everyone was running for gas after the power was restored and many people didnt have any light (candles, flashlights) but it was fun playing hide and go seek with my cousins....except I got cuts and briuses from tripping and crashing into things. I also got punched in the face because we were all running around then i crashed into my cousin.

It was a big deal. Incase you forgot, the subways need electricity to run. Many people were trapped on the subway in the heat. And most people in NYC need subways to get home from work. A lot of people were stuck their. And I am sure many people were trapped other places as well.
And this topic is stupid. Who cares? Most people weren't effected by it. Just view the old blackout thread.

BTW, Sparks this happened in the North East. How would you know what happened if you live in california.....

| | | ^ Actually, most elevators were able to be emptied thanks to backup generators.
I was at Kennywood at the time, and luckily, it didn't affect the park. My power was out when I got back to Akron, though.

| | | I was at Six Flags America. There weren't any outages there so I didn't even notice it until my dad called to tell me about it.

| | | I was on the phone when everything went out. My town was hit hard, the hospital didnt even have power after the first night and it was almost 4 and 1/2 days later that I finally got my power back. All the food in my house went bad and my parents couldnt get back to work because their cars were empty on gas and none of the gas stations could pump gas.
On the second night though I had some fun. I took out my bike and I rode down the middle of Yonge St, that was a great feeling. It felt like I was in a movie like 28 Days Later. There wasnt a single person or car outside, I didnt even see any police, it was so dead and creepy.
great times :D
come to think of it, I wouldnt mind it happening again. It became really peaceful and quiet with the power out. | | Thread Tools | | | | Display Modes | Linear Mode |
