Some people just astonish me with their stupidity

Yestarday people found razor blades attached to little wooden blocks buried in some beach volleyball courts at a beach here in Toronto. I think this is just totally messed up.
My parents used to take me to this beach as a kid...I doubt I will ever go back.

Police shocked by discovery of razor sharp blades buried at busy beach

TORONTO -- A collective shudder rolled across Canada's most populous city Monday as police searched for a ''disturbed individual'' who used razor-sharp knife blades and wooden blocks to booby-trap one of the city's busiest beaches.

Officers armed with rakes and metal detectors spent a painstaking day scanning the sand at Ashbridge's Bay, where 13 blades were discovered early Sunday just below the surface of the sand on several outdoor volleyball courts.

The utility-knife blades were embedded in palm-sized blocks of wood with the cutting surface pointing upward in an apparent effort to inflict maximum damage, said Toronto police Det. Norm Brinn.

''These were designed and placed to injure the volleyball players while they were out on the court area playing; that's specifically what their purpose was,'' Brinn said.

''It's obviously the act of a disturbed individual or individuals. It's clear these items were constructed solely with the purpose of causing harm.''

Police are focusing on a 12-hour overnight period when they believe someone walked the beach in darkness and buried the weapons just below the sand's surface, right where players were most likely to step or dive.

All 13 blades were found within roughly three metres of the net, where most of the action takes place.

Even police were shaken by the find, said Brinn.

''This is brand new to me; my colleagues have never seen anything of this manner before,'' he said.

''It just shows the depth that some person can sink, to construct and plant this item, with the full purpose of injuring people that are just down here enjoying a recreational activity.''

A weekend beach volleyball tournament was cancelled Sunday shortly after the shock of discovering one of the makeshift weapons turned to horror as more and more of the medieval-looking contraptions were unearthed.

''You expect to find the odd bit of garbage that's left out by accident, but (this) was deliberate,'' said Michael Lichti, who organized the tournament for the Toronto East Sport and Social Club.

''That somebody had spent the time to construct these was really very shocking.''

The potential for tragedy is staggering, Lichti added. ''I can't even begin to think what would go through someone's mind to do something like this.''

Lichti said he hopes the organization will get a chance to run at least one more event before the summer is through, but he warned he's unsure whether it will happen.

''We hope we might be able to, simply because we don't want a situation like this to overshadow the fact it is a beach and it's for public use.''

The beach was still closed Monday as police skimmed off an eight-centimetre layer of sand to ensure they had recovered all of the blades.

Brinn said police are examining a number of different scenarios, but still have no motives or suspects. There was no reason to believe any of the volleyball players are linked to the crime, he added.

This is a park a few buddies of mine regularly play volleyball at. This is a very sad situation. I would really like to know what's going on in the head of the person responisble for this.

I can only imagine what that would feel like to go up for a hit and come down on a blade. I play a lot of beach volleyball, and I've seen people land on glass shards let alone razor blades.

That's sick. I don't understand why people would think to do something like that. It would be horrible for a volleyball player to land on it, but worse yet, little kids play at beaches. Imagine a child stumbling on one of the razors. Some people deserve to die and burn in hell for stuff like that.

Holy crap, that is evil. Thats something you usually hear as an urban legend, like medical needles put in the coin return of pay phones by gang members. Seriosuly though, thats sick. What if a player was diving for a hit and gets stabbed in the chest? Thats possible death.

^ You mean like that urban legend I said about razor blades on waterslides I once mentioned and got made fun of? Just goes to show how people can do some sick things. Sure its not exactly the same, but its the same concept.

Edit: About the post below mine..... I never said it was real. I just saw it under a urban legends website and posted it.

Get over it edh. The reason you were made fun of was because your story wasn't true and was pretty stupid if you think about it. This story really happened. So the major difference of this story is something I like to call........ reality.

That sick bastard. I've heard many stories like this one, but this is by far the worst.

At SFOG, I bought a sour liquid tube thing but when I started to open it, I realized the plastic was ripped off the top and it had been open before. I took it back and told the cashier, then I got my money back. I was looking around for something else in the shop and noticed two other sour liquid tubes sitting on the shelf with the plastic taken off. I told the cashier about it and she simply removed the ones left in the box and put them behind the counter......

Man, some people are messed up. I don't play volleyball but I would hate to be playing and fall on one of those razor blades. That could be a serious cut.
