| School Rivalries
Do any of you people go to school's that have huge rivalries? I defienetley do, we just recently had a huge game...and unfortunatley lost. Here is my story: So, yesterday (Tuesday, Jan. 11th 2005), was one of the biggest basketball games our school has ever seen. We got all excited, posters over the place, sign making, getting amped up. It was against the biggest rival school. Marin Catholic. Before we get into the game, let me inform you about the school, and their students. Now, me and nearly all the students at our school, hate Marin Catholic. It's the perfect school to hate. Marin Catholic costs approximatley 15,000 a year. That adds up to a near 60,000 dollars for a full High School Career. I'd fair to say that it doesn't give you a advantage in getting into college. If you're smart, you can work the public school system (Especially my School, Terra Linda) to it's full advantage. Many kids have gotten into Harvard, Stanford, MIT, etc. It's all in the student. Back to the hate. Basically, the school is filled with spoiled white kids that are afriad of going to our school cause its "ghetto". In fact, they're scared to park their cars into our parking lot in case we steal them. Now, if you ask me, one of the things about life, is learning how to deal with other people. You can't do that at MC. Why? Everyone is the same. They're all spoiled, drive nice cars, all white, and all think they're better than everyone else. Drives me insane. Now I need to do a shoutout here, there are a select group of people at MC that do not match my application. My friend Kevin, AJ, and Spencer, are all cool and do not bother me much at all. But lets skip past that. Part of this big rivalry is clearly the private vs. public school approach. Marin Catholic feels that they're better than us cause they're more loyal to "god", practice better "morals" and feel that public school is filled with thugs and people that constantly get in trouble and are out to screw with people. Obviously that isn't true, unless I am secretley a gangster and don't know it. Ok so game time. We start out the game, our school is KILLING Marin Catholic....like 18 to 4. We were going NUTS. We were so ready to tear the roof off, toss some cars...go wild. So time starts winding down. Its getting down to the final quarter....stuff is going nuts. Now I gotta say, the refs got patted on the ass by the other team or something. The ball is coming down for a rebound, and this guy trips and falls on his face....by his own feet. We get called for the foul, of course. So this guy gets 3 cause its a personal foul. Makes two, misses the 3rd...sinks a 3. Tied, we go into overtime. So its OT time, were down by two. One of our players shoots a SOLID 3 pointer (At least I thought). And sinks it. Counted as a 2. (WOW WHO WOULDA KNOWN....WE GET SCREWED). Tied score. They sink 2 baskets...we make one more...they win by 2 points. If there was a Piston's Pacers brawl moment, it was seriously about to go down. Our bleachers CHARGED at theirs ready for a full out fight. Police RUN in to stop. Were stopped. Im standing on the side just trying to get out. So we all end up leaving and going outside. I just went straight to my car, I was too angry to do anything. I was kinda tempted in flipping this car that boxed me in, funny how the sticker said "MC PARKING PERMIT". Move your damn mercedes, my Toyota is coming to knock your ass over. So I'm driving home. Of course it takes forever to get out of the parking lot. So I'm driving along. I SLAM on the brakes...to my surprise, someone cutting me off! Yay! So I'm driving behind them...they're doing 65MPH in a 25MPH zone, nearly HIT a guy crossing the street, and are driving with their headlights off. Classic. Oh yeah, they too had a MC Parking Permit Sticker. Some Marin Catholic Kids shouldn't drive. So whats next in the epilogue of school-wide hate? Game 2. Feb. 11th, 2005. It's at their school, so if we riot, storm the floor, etc. its at their school. I remember freshman year all too well. Feb 11th is a long time away, we will get back our 2 points...*****es! Its going down. And thats my story. So if you see me mad x10, thats why.

The high school I went to had a major rival school. I went to high school in Aransas Pass, TX and our rival was Ingleside, TX -- the two towns are just four miles apart, so that I guess is how we became rivals. Our rivalry is really intense in sports. I remember during my senior playing my last basketball game in high school and we hosted them to end my final year in basketball; in that game they were playing for another spot in the playoffs (they had made the playoffs several years in a row before) and we were second-to-last in the district. We had already won at their home court about a month earlier. And as usual, there were just as many of their fans as ours at the game. Early in the game, they flagrantly fouled one of our best players and was out the rest of the game and a brief fan brawl between the two sides did break deep in the stands just after that but was quickly controlled. We trailed practically the entire game and were down by as many as 16 points, until suddenly we stormed back in the final few minutes (I nailed a couple of huge shots in the final minute), and we won by four points. And after the game, we celebrated as if we had won a title and everyone stormed the court the second it was over. Not only did we win our final game in high school coming from 16 back, not only did we sweep the season series for the first time in school history, but we eliminated them from making the playoffs with that win and terminated their long playoff streak. It was the highlight of my high school basketball years.

The high school I went to was Franklin High School in Somerset, NJ. We were rivals with the Hillsborough Raiders. I hated them since I was an athelete, but it was not as passionate as my hatred for Hunderdon Central. Oh man they suck. College, I believe Montclair State University's rival is Kean since they're close, but it could also be William Patterson. I'm not sure...because I don't care.

I'm West Essex, and We have an enormous rivalry with our neighboring High School: James Caldwell. The only thing is that we settle it every year in football. We beat them in the championship every year. I'm being completely modest, we are better than them, but they're all sore losers, so every night after they lose the big game, they go and vandalize our school.

The highschool I went to had bad boys sports, so we didn't have any rivals. The girls were really good at vollyball though, and I guess they had a few rivals.

My school has a rivalry with pretty much every other school. They all think we're a bunch of rich snobs and we think they're all really lame because they have no spirit. Specifically in the engineering faculty we have a rivalry with Waterloo becuase it's apparently one of the best engineering schools around, so everyone who goes there thinks they're the best... but all they do is sit around and do their work. We actually have fun and enjoy college. First year isn't about getting good grades, it's about having fun. No one at my school (Queen's University) really cares about sports, but on specific events like home coming we go to the game just to cause crap and harass the other team. Most of us leave at half time because the outcome of the game is irrelevant.

Union vs. Jenks and OSU vs. OU are the big ones in the OK. I think it is pretty stupid but at the same time I want my team to win...Union! We won the state championship and finally took it from Jenks.
Well we're Glenbrook North, and we hate Glenbrook South. Besides that we're pretty boring.
And everyone knows that Glenbrook South is far superior. I couldn't even tell you who my current high school's rival is, I really don't think there are any big ones. My old Catholic school used to have a big one with the other Catholic school in the area. They were full of really rich snobby people, while ours was middle class. Those basketball games were always extremely intense and usually involved some fighting.

I go to Myers Park High School. Myers Park High hates Providence High, Providence hates Myers Park. To sum it up, MP is better in academics and Providence is a tiny bit better at sports. Providence is all the rich snobs that don't know anything. MP has 30% of studens on free or reduced lunch and STILL has the highest SAT and ACT scores in the system. MP is also mostly democrat and Providence is mostly Republican. Thats my school's rivalry. ^never knew that Olympic/South rivalry existed...

My high school had a pretty big rivalry with a county school called Oak Hill. We always beat them at EVERYTHING so when they finally did beat us at our own game (basketball), boy did they rub it in. They were stereotyped as farmers and white trash (but considering that in the eighties they showed up to our games dressed as gorillas with nooses around their necks, I guess it wasn't much of a stretch).

My friend went to Providence and he told me all about the MP rivalry. Not really sure if it still does. South Meck was just the big school everyone talked about in my 4 years and the games were always overpacked when the 2 teams got together.

Bergen Catholic(me) vs Don Bosco. According to some newspaper a while ago we have the biggest football rivalry of any high schools in the country. Anyone who lives near upper NJ knows at least Don Bosco for its Football and us for our overall sports excellence. We are schools based primarily around sports, especially football. This year one of our players, Brian Cushing was picked for the All American High school team which consists of a little over 12 players and the coach of USC called him only 3 hours before the Orange bowl. Pretty impressive stuff if you ask me.

I see that a lot of rivalries for sports are for Football. Thats interesting to me, while we had the NCS (Near State Champion) football team, I feel that Basketball is really where the intensity is. Why? Were all packed into a gym, people getting excited, and it gets LOUD and INTENSE. And the players can hear what you say. And trust me, we get them pissed off. I feel as if basketball is far more intense.

Na basketball isn't that way for us. But when you get close to 12,000 people for one football game when the stands can only fit about 4,000, then you know that it will be an intense game. We had our state championship game at Giants stadium, I didn't go but I'm sure it was packed like hell.

Kyle is right, basketball games have the ability to be much more intense everyone is so much closer to the players and people are packed together. I was really shocked by how crazy things got when I went to a Georgia Tech basketball game. It wasn't anything like a college football game.

Kutztown has plenty of rivals. Everybody calls us a farmer school, due to our extremely rural location (only 700 kids in our High School). But we beat them in most sports, except football. Our main rivals are Fleetwood, Brandywine, and Northwestern. I hate all three of those schools. Especially Fleetwood.

My college is one of the two schools involved in the oldest football rivalry in the U.S., between Lehigh University and Lafayette College. I don't know exactly how old it is, but you can look it up if you feel like it. BEAT LEHIGH!

If I want a good football rivalry game, I go back to Toledo and watch my alma mater take on my mom's school. She graduated from Toledo Central Catholic in 1962. Their rival, St. Francis De Sales, is where my dad, brother and I graduated (1959, 2001 and 1995 respectively). We have met in the first round of the state playoffs in football numerous times. We have a trophy that floats between the two schools, the Irish Knight. But if we talk hoops, then it goes to Kent State vs Akron, if for nothing else Akron's nickname (the Zips).

My school, PHS has a so called "rivalry" with another school, RHS. We don't consider it a rivalry but they think it's a big one and they're always trying to start fights. My brother and his friends were just standing in line at the consession stand when some kids from RHS came over and started yelling at them for no reason, trying to start a fight. even after my brother and his friends got their stuff, they followed them and kept harrassing them.

Down here in Texas, Football is biiiiiiig.... it's basically the only thing that matters in most high schools. (most.) My school, CHS, has always had a big rivalry with TWHS. TWHS is set in upscale neighborhood(s) where many richer people live. The fathers and mothers who are all business people. My school is filled with middle class folk. The football games between the two are inteeeennnse. Also, my school was involved with a very controversial game for the UIL High School basketball Series(es?) Bad calls were made, and many people were angry. Anyway, TWHS has thousands of more kids than mine will, and both of us are 5A schools. If anyone here in high school in Texas (an are in a 5A school) you probably have heard of TWHS and they're endless funded sports programs. We've got 2700+, they've got got a couple thousand more than us. It's a bitter rivalry. Gauntlets get thrown, tempers flare, but everyone falls under the same umbrella. The umbrella of the magical ISD. Mmmm...

I miss all the times when I was at this school. I think the 1995 game was great(back as a 10th grader) when we went to south for that year and just whooped there butts and we all jumped on the field to celebrate with Rangers. I don't think that they ever graffited our fields when I was at North. |
