NASCAR 2005 Season Discussion

Let's just bypass all "OMG YOU LIKE NASCAR!!!" posts and discuss the upcoming season.

A lot of changes......a lot of new rides.......some of the more interesting stuff:

RCR dumped Robby Gordon, moved Jeff Burton to the 31, and changed the 30 team to the 07 team, which will be sponsored by Jack Daniels, and driven by Dave Blaney. I love Dave Blaney, and I love RCR, I think these will be the guys I will be rooting for this season. With Harvick and Burton as teammates, they could be a huge threat.

Kyle Busch is entering a full season in the 5 car....

A bunch of people are retiring..

This is the last season for Rusty Wallace and Terry Labonte.

The Gibbs team has added a 3rd car, the number 11 FedEx car...but they got Jason Leffler as driver....hmm....I could think of 10 guys that deserve this ride more than Leffler.

Truex is still in the Busch series for another year.....

Michael Waltrip has been told if he does not finish in the top 10 this year, he will be fired.

And of course, in the Dodge camp, they have stopped using Intrepids, and are now racing the new 06 Chargers....I think they are ugly as crap....but whatever.

Discuss.....

I'm excited about the new saeson. I'm a Hendrick fan so of course Gordon, Johnson & now a Bush will be the guys i'll be rooting for this season.

I kinda like the new Dodge, Looks cool imo.

I thought i also heard somewhere that this will be Mark Martins last season as well. The sport just gets younger every year.

I really don't think Atlanta will get it. Everyone is fighting for it here in Charlotte and it belongs here, I think it should be built here but not if i have to pay for it.

I have not heard any rule changes either but feb is coming so i'm sure we'll hear more about the changes.

I like the chargers. I think they look alot better than the Intrepids.

You can check out most of the new teams paint schemes and more charger pics over at www.jayski.com

Everyone should watch Formula 1 instead of watching a bunch of cars go around an oval for 2 hours.

I tried watching Formula 1, Indy & even Drag racing and i just really could not get excited about it as much as i do for Nascar. I guess i like watching them going around and around cause i really hate the weeks Nascar is at the road tracks but not too much since Gorgon seems to dominate there.

I love all types of racing...including formula 1...the problem with formula 1 nowadays is...the ferraris win every week. This day and age...(as we saw last season) anyone can win on any given day. And hey, they don;t let junior cheat...expcet on the super speedways.

Yeah I agree with you on that part about Ferrari. I don't find NASCAR that boring, I just find it a bit repetitive to watch them go around an oval for 2 hours. Though if I had access to a track with racing and had tickets, I would still go :D

yah...just like any sporting event, actualyl going to the races is twice as good. We have Atlanta Motor Speedway, which is the fastest speedway on the circuit (they hit 201 on the backstretch going into 3)..and the sheer size of the complex is breathtaking.....

I didn't watch NASCAR until I went to a race in person. NASCAR is a lot better in person because you are there live. In addition, as slipknot said Atlanta Motor Speedway is huge and it holds over 200,000 people.

I try to make it to as many races as i can each season. I agree that it's 100x better in person.

I do get to see all 3 Charlotte races in person very year and have been to Darlington, North Wilksboro, Rockingham, Bristol, Martinsville & Atlanta a few times.

Jeff & Jimmy no but Jamie, now there's a hottie.

Anyway, like a few other drivers somewhat like Tony Stewart & Bobby Labonte but i'm a true Hendrick fan, Hopefully Kyle Bush will be awsome.

I love the Bush brothers too....but my faith whether or not I like it will always remain with Richard CHildress and his drivers...so I guess if I had to pick 3 drivers to root for, it would be Harvick, and the two bush brothers.

In all honesty, I'm a huge Indycar and F1 fan, but I used to be really into Nascar. However, amidst my love for open wheel racing, a few things in NASCAR started to really bother me so I just lost interest. However, I have been trying to get a little bit of that spark back. I used to be huge on it and have been to a number of races including Indianapolis, Atlanta, Talladega, Daytona, and Darlington. I've also been to Michigan and Chicago, but those were for Indycar races. Anyway....

I'm interested in seeing how the new Dodge Charger does this year. That's my big interest. And I must admit, I was a big criticizer of the new play-off format, but it ended up being the one thing that kept me a little interested last year. So I might watch a little bit more this year, who knows. The Daytona 500 is a must. Its the Daytona 500.

Favorite track (for Nascar):
I like all the tracks for different reasons, but if I had to pick up a favorite then I would have to go with Talladega or Daytona.

Worst track (for Nascar):
Indianapolis. Boring racing and you can't even see half the track no matter where you are.

Change series though, and those are completely different. Indianapolis Motor Speedway is, and probably always will be, my favorite track. It is unlike any other track in the world. The month of May is a magical time. Nascar going around that track is some of the most expensive boredom you can find. Indycars going around there is terribly excited. If you have any interest in racing, I encourage you to go to the Indianapolis 500.

Yeah, I hated the Chase for the Cup format for last year, until it started....then it was nail biting intense competition every week.

new season starts tomorrow!!!!

I agree. I was totally against the new format. I just did not like the idea of it. After last season i'll say i really did like it although i still think it's not fair to take the drivers points away after the first 26 races.

Just let the drivers keep their points and just take the top 10 in the final 10. I would have liked that format alot better.

In all honesty, I'm not a big Nascar fan. I'm more of an Indy and Le Mans fan (Le Mans is the best IMO). My favorite driver was Jeff Gordon. I do like the new revised rules better, but I think that they should've started using them this season. EDIT: They should have a skateboarding industry sponsored driver. For esample, his main sponsor could be Element, secondary World Industries, and so on.

The Shootout was a good race. I am happy NASCAR is started up again. I would pf liked if Jr. did better. And I don't like Jimmy Johnson a whole lot. It was good to watch another race, but I didn't like the results.

I love Nascar but I am not into road course tracks. I prefer oval. What does everyone think of the point sytem does it seem fair to you. Too bad about Mark Martin He just never seemed to be able to get out of 5th or 6th place. I hope he does better so he does not get canned. I was for Junior however I have leaned more towards Jimmy Johnson.
