After seeing a few clips of Johnny Carson in my TV Production class, he was a great actor and anybody with a good entry saying deserves my prayers. RIP Johnny and my heart goes out to the Carson family.

Wow, that's surprising. But at least he had a peaceful death, without having to deal with some kind of illness.

^That's the meanest thing I've ever heard anyone say about other people that they don't know. I may not have watched those shows on tape, but I know who the guy was. I know that he was important in Hollywood, and people are more or less affected by something like this. Even if this thing is said just for others to know what's in the news.
I'm sad that Johnny Carson died, but most of the stars I grew up with are dying. But stop with the threads, because the majority on Tn could care less. So just stop the "older" stars are dying! None of you young people care anyway, so just stop with these thread about an older celebrity who died. Like you really care. It's just another way to add to your post count. Mods, you can delete this post from my count, because I could care less about posts!!! I actually care about people!!
Actually, I'm 26 and in the entertainment field and I do care that he died, and God forbid I should let people know that. Don't assume that all of the people on this board are little kids. It's winter for cryin out loud...what else is there to talk about?

Leeloo, you don't have to post in threads like this. It's news, he was a famous person. Should we not be allowed to post stuff like this? Geez, you and Robert really liked screwing up every death thread, huh? Remember the Rodney Dangerfield thread? Stop with the "majority of TN could care less" stuff. Have you seen the thread about that double-decker airplane? It's got four pages! We could care less because we're never going to see the thing, let alone fly in it. But it's news, and big machines are awesome. The same goes with this. This is news, and Johnny Carson was awesome. He was famous and one of the funniest men on television. Why can't we make a friggin' thread about him? Everyone, let's not get a flame war started just because someone wants to be a spoilsport. Talk about Johnny Carson. Had you ever seen his TV show? I used to watch it as a kid when my dad let me stay up. I didn't get some of the jokes, but I do remember it being very funny. I've seen clips and videos of it, and it was truly genius. It's sad that he died, but that's what happens to older celebrities ... older humans.

Oh gosh golly gee LeeLoo, where are our heads? After all this is a coaster site and not an obit site for people we have probably never heard of since we're all 13. Is that out of your system yet? If this thread bothers you so much leeloo, DON'T POST IN IT. And delete your own post. [\end rant and sarcasm] The thing about these older comedians passing on is that they were good at what they did. How many times have we seen "Dean Martin's Comedy roasts" advertised? That one woman that hit the guys with her purse, Ruth Busey (?), I'd like to see more of her stuff when I can. A lot of these people, Carson, McMahon, Dean Martin, Bob Hope, George Burns, they all were stars before many of us really understood. We had Leno and Letterman, Foxworthy, Jon Stewart, etc for our humor, and its nice to go back and hear the "old-school" humor though many of today's jokes are just rewritten. And Carson on the Tonight Show for 30 years...we know Leno won't touch that, doubt Letterman will. He did alot prior to becoming the host and did more after leaving. All I know about Leno prior to his hosting gig...Leno advertised Doritos.

He was very funny. When I went to my grandparents to visit. We would all sit up together and wait for Herrrrres Johnny. They never missed a show as long as they lived. Johnny followed in Jack Parr's shoes and made the Tonight Show a household word. I included Jack in there for history's sake if anyone knows who that was. leeloo you would be surprised on how far reaching Johnny's show was as far as the younger audience.
I know you young people probably don't care, and that's fine, it's what your parents taught you about early hollywood, tv, ect. Both of my girls know who Johnny Carson was, but I guess it's the way you were raised. I actually care about people!!
Why do you always assume that we don't know who these people are because we're young? Really now, we're not that ignorant. And obviously, we cared if we started this thread and are posting in it.

I watched his final show as host of the Tonight Show... and I remember his last guests (Bette Midler and Robin Williams). Against my parent's wishes, I wanted to see his last show, because I knew that a piece of history would end its 30 year run. I always wondered what he was up to. I found out earlier this week he was doing something. Now, he died. I guess I know now.

Even though I'm young, I remember Johnny Carson and appreciate everything he did for late night television. He was far and away better than any of the current late night hosts, even Conan O' Brien. Just because I'm young doesn't mean I don't care, it's sad to see someone of his caliber pass, even though he "died" to a lot of people after his last show, because he never came back to the limelight for a curtain call.

One of the many contributions Mr. Carson made to the entertainment industry was the introduction of many new comics to a nation wide audience. He laid the path for many of the comedians that have been sucessful. In his honor I post this poem and say thanks for all the great times, and for giving all those young comedians a chance. The Bridge Builder An old man, going a lone highway, Came at the evening, cold and gray, To chasm, vast and deep and wide, Through which was flowing a sullen tide. The old man crossed in the twilight dim; The sullen stream had no fears for him; But he turned when safe on the other side And built a bridge to span the tide. "Old man," said a fellow pilgrim near, "You are wasting strength with building here; "Your journey will end with the ending day; "You never again must pass this way; "You have crossed the chasm, deep and wide - "Why build you the bridge at the eventide?" The builder lifted his old gray head: "Good friend, in the path I have come," he said, "There followeth after me today "A youth whose feet must pass this way. "This chasm that has been naught to me "To that fair-haired youth may a pit-fall be, "He, too, must cross in the twilight dim; "Good friend, I am building the bridge for him." - WILL ALLEN DROMGOOLE

It's strange, there was just a short gegment on him in my local news about how he still once in a while wrote a joke or two for David Letterman's monologue. I used to watch him when I was a kid and I thought he was great, a real classic in a modern world. It would've been nice to have seen him make appearances once in a while after he retired, but instead once he did, he was virtually gone from the public spotlight. It's sad to know he has passed away and we haven't really seen him in over a decade since his 1992 finale.

Tragic, just tragic. For the longest time, I had no idea why my parents kept mentioning him. I wasn't even five when he retired, so I certainly don't remember him on the air. Then my parents rented a tape of some of his episodes. Within the first minute, I suddenly understood why I had heard so much praise about him. There are few things I laugh so hard at then some of Johnny Carson's routines. I've spent much of the day laughing as the networks replay an endless stream of clips and tributes, and I think it's the perfect way for people to honor his passing, by laughing at his work. Goodbye Johnny.

Yea its too bad, but time waits for no man. I still haven't seen many of his routines--I'll need to look into that.

Johnny Carson was the reason why I've always stayed up to watch his shows back in the days. And after he retired in 1992, I thought: "There goes late night television!" It's just hasn't been the same even with Jay Leno in his place. I also remember Johnny cared and respected his guests to the point that his impact revitalized so many of their lives and careers; he'll never be replaced no matter what.

Did you see where he stored all of the old episodes in a salt mine somehwere (forgot what state) 12 or 13 (also forgot) stories deep. They also have other classic films stored there also. I thought that was interesting.
....sorry, but I honestly thought he had already died.
Same here and when I first heard about it I had to think about who that was. I have been watching some of his tribute shows they've been doing and he really was a good actor and pretty funny too.
