| 2005 Tropical Storm/Hurricane season
They are predicting another very active tropical season, perhaps even busier than last year. In fact, it's already underway as Tropical Storm Arlene is making its way up the Gulf of Mexico right alongside the Florida gulf coast. It is forecasted to resume north to the Florida Panhandle and strenthen to a hurricane. Although forecast models indicate landfall in Mississippi/Alabama is anticipated. http://www.nhc.noaa.gov/refresh/graphics_at1+shtml/151226.shtml?5day I pondered whether or not to start a discussion on this, but I thought I have this topic started due to a surprising amount of discussion here last year on the tropical season since a lot went on especially in Florida and now this season could well be even more active. This system will probably be the only storm in a while because it is still early in the season, but later in the season, things will get much more active particularly during the peak of season mid-September.

I hope nothing comes up while I am on my cruise. Why is Florida *******ed again? Is there another storm on the way? Or are they just predicting a lot of storms to hit Florida again?

Thank you hurricane, the hurricane warning man. I have been paying some attention the the storm that is brewing now but I am in NJ so I don't have to wory about it. Every year though my family goes on vacation to SC, NC or FL and on about 5 of our 8 trips we were evacuated due to hurricanes. We are staying up north this year so if Jersey gets a hurricane, you know who to blame.

It would be kind of cool to see NYC get hit by a category 5, then it will be just like The Day After Tomorrow. Then again, that movie is scientifically incorrect in some parts.

Yeah, 7 posts in 10 minutes and not one after you posted the second time. Good going sfft_2108. You killed the thread, way to go. Hurricane, is it a coincidence that your name is "Hurricane" and you started a thread about severe weather including hurricanes? Wouldn't it also be strange if the names for storms went through the letter J and it was called Jimmy?

It's not unusual, you're right; we've seen tropical systems in June many times before -- in fact, it happens as frequent in June as one storm every other year. But there have never been anything before June in history. Even in April 2003, that system fell short of being a tropical system, but there was a central convection and winds were of such force, but but it was non tropical low pressure system in the sense that the formation and storm structure were different than what is normally found in an actual tropcial system. Yet its sub-tropical status was still given a name.

I just hope it's nothing like last year. One good reason why i'll never move to Florida.

Time to bump this thread up. It seems Dennis is going to pull a Charley, be one powerful, yet small in size, storm. Is Florida going to be screwed again... well see.

Just hope theres no more while i'm there, being a Brit i've never experienced a hurricane and it's not something I want to experience TBH.
It would be kind of cool to see NYC get hit by a category 5, then it will be just like The Day After Tomorrow. Then again, that movie is scientifically incorrect in some parts.
to tell you the truth, things like that actually could happen, let me explain the scenario step by step 1. global warming is is starting to take effect, the icecaps have slowly melting for many years now. the americans are being jerks to the enviroment and not giving a rip about pollution. because of that, we are boosting the global warming effect. 2. whoops! the polar icecaps melt too much. the most likely thing to happen is the once was ice is filling up the oceans more, and more, and more by the minute, causing the warmer ocean water to do what else? cool down. now, all that water filled up the oceans 20 feet higher, which would cause massive tidal waves to hit all over the world, including NY. before we learn about another catastrophic possibility, you'll need to know a little about climite... ocean currents are a major factor when it comes to climite, we depend on the north atlantic current to move warm water from the tropics to the US and other northerly countrys. without this, most of us would be living in a vast, frozen tundra anyway, let's go back to the rushing water merging with the warmer ocean water. the melted ice is flowing at such a speed it could stall or shut down the current, and poof! no more NYC. one or both of these things could happen, all because we haven't respected the enviroment, think about it, stronger hurricanes, more powerful thunderstorms, all results of global warming. I don't want my life cut short from something we could have stopped many years ago. this is our last chance to make a diffrance, we can do it.

woooohooo!!!!!! Nice post xbadx! I have a little story. Every year my family takes a vacation. We used to go to Florida. But we got hit by a hurricane litterally every time we went. We then started going to NC and SC for the past few years. Every time we went we got hit by a hurricane, most causing evacuation. So with every vacation, we were evacuated and our vacation became a spontaneous trip up the coast. We would usually end up camping in the Apalachians(we always travel with a tent). So, this year we decided to keep our vacation up north, and get a house at the beach(NJ). We also planned our vacation a month before we usually go. Now we have the first two hurricanes coming in to that area while we are going to be there. It's just our luck. The hurricanes are early, theres two of them, and they are going to hit NJ.

This is getting off topic, but global warming/cooling is so catastrophically complex that it is still very unknown about all the causes and effects involved. Certainly industrial actvities can't be ruled out as one of the causes of the warming, but also the swaying of the Earth's tilt is also a known cause of warming and cooling, and there may be others as well. Still, far more research and studies will need to be conducted for complete understanding. Anyway, Hurricane Dennis is a category 4 storm and will probably maintain its strength during its trek north to the US gulf coast. Two spots in Florida in particular are near or on the forecasted path: the Keys and the panhandle. The panhandle, I anticipate, will get the more intense impact due to the gulf waters.

I hope this season isn't as bad as last year. Florida hasn't even recovered from 04 yet. But their predictions sometimes can be off. A few times they called for a lot of storms and we got only a few. It's like trying to predict the weather or something. lol
This is getting off topic, but global warming/cooling is so catastrophically complex that it is still very unknown about all the causes and effects involved.
They also don't bother to say that there have been other "heatwaves" and cooling time periods through out the years. Look at the weather records. Some of the highest temps were in the 1890's way before "global warming" ever was thought of. I think the earth goes through stages and then it rights itself again and gets back into balance. I'm not saying polution is a good thing, I just think they go overboard with it and the whole global warming theory.

Somebody send me a plane ticket out of here. I cant take another Hurricane season especiall like last year. The worst part is hoping the weather man has is forecast correct and the storm moves away from Clearwater Fl.. The storms can turn at any time so I will have a lot to be nervous about over the next couple of days until the storm passes. :)

I remember last year when I was in Virginia Beach and hurricane Bonnie hit the day I was supposed to go to BGW. And on our way home, just a few hours after we left, Charlie hit and then the one after that did. Hopefully when I go to Virginia this year my plans to go to BGW and PKD aren't ruined by hurricanes.

Someone seems to be forgetting Hurricane Andrew, 1992 I believe. I'm waiting for Hurricane Anthony and Hurricane Timothy. The latter ought to be a hell of a storm. Then again, in the same here as Hurricane Anthony, there could be Hurricane Brigitte (my sister). I tell ya, the gulf area would be in deep crap, if not water. While I don't like the destruction, I welcome the rain to Ohio.

Talking about BGW, we were up there when a Tropical storm came through and we had the park to ourselves. lol!!! We left half way through the day, it started to POUR down and wouldn't quit. Let me tell you, Alpengeist in the rain is PAINFUL! A couple years ago there was one season so active that we went through the entire alphabet and started over again!!! It was insane, something like 30 storms that year. The reason I remembered is because my first name is Wes, and they never, ever get to the W's. lol

Well i hope all of you in FL are ready for dennis because it seems like its going to be one powerful storm! My best buddy jessie lives in Pine City FL and they came up here to M.N. to stay with us until it passes. I dont know why they did, because they might not get hit that hard but there here.

This season, on pace, has easily been the most active in the history of the Atlantic tropical season, and is well on pace to shatter the all-time record. Already so far -- just a month and a half into the season -- there have been five tropical systems and named storms, two hurricanes, and one major hurricane. The first four systems have all made landfall with the fifth also becoming likely to make landfall. Only about a quarter of the season done, has already put in more than most other seasons have completed.

Emily.... She is on her way over towards Texas ( I believe) She is a Cat 3 Hurricane now. Hurricane Emily is already beginning to affect our southern Texas area with already heavy rains in Corpus Christi and Brownsville and some of the moisture reaching as far north as the Houston area. Visible Satellite Imagery Infrared Satellite Imagery It has reintensified to a category two storm, but what is really amazing is how warm the Gulf of Mexico waters are, which has caused the central pressure to plunge down to 959 millibars from 970 millibars in only six hours, but its close proximity to land will cap out its intensity, so the hurricane shouldn't get any stronger and probably will weaken once again just before landfall, which is projected to be about 50 miles south of Brownsville, Texas.
I don't want my life cut short from something we could have stopped many years ago. this is our last chance to make a diffrance, we can do it.
But you're already 23 or 24 right? So what difference does it make, you've already lived a long life. Seriously though, gobal warming is bad, but icecaps melting would not suddenly cause a tidal wave that would sink NYC. No, NYC would slowly be submerged under some water, but not like the tidal wave in Day After Tomorrow, which I just finished sorta watching. The most likely scenario that the world will end is that we blow ourselves up with nukes, or California breaks off the coast to hang with Hawaii (Alaska can come too), or the ozone layer leaves us, or a meteor becomes crashed into us (meanwhile, Australia's like wtf^^?). Yes, I did just get all that from a flash animation-End of the World, you know the one.

Human extinction will occur from the technology we continue to develop. On topic though, Emily is a witch. Reminds me of my ex, she isn't satisfied with one path, so she takes another. This has been one heck of a season so far, and up in NE Ohio, we barely have any rain. I want rain, dammit.

 Incredible.....Hurricane Emily continues to intensify as its central pressure has dropped even more down to 945 millibars, which is quite insane for reintensification, especially having been at 970 millibars earlier this morning. It is still expected to reduce in intensity just before landfall, in fact already showing a slight weakening in the last hour or so.
