hot shower, and do neck excersizes under the water.
ie, turn head slowly from side to side
look up and down slowly
tilt head left slowy, take back to normal position, tilt head right slowly, take back to normal positon
i have a whole list at home because I usually suffer from sore necks

I second the chiropractor option. I go monthly and have friends that go to school for it that help me out in between visits.

You could take some Robaxecet before you go to be. That's what I usually do. Unfortunately that is an overnight fix. If you need a quick fix, then I'm sorry but I don't know! A hot shower sounds nice.

I have recurring stiff neck-ness after some hits I dished out during my football days. Cracking it is good, but it's only a temporary solution, especially if the problem rises again. Get a microwavable heat pack and do neck stretches/exercises every morning. I'm sure you can find some good stuff on the web. Luckily for me, I have access to a neck weight-lifting machine that stretches my neck-shoulder muscles well to help curb the pain and stiffness.

When I'm stiff, I just play with it for 5 or 10 minutes and it's all good...until the next morning. Then I just play with it again. And so on.
