| Car sound systems
Anyone have a nice system in there trunk? I am currently working on one. Saturday I bought a 1200w Sony Xplod Amp and I am in the process of getting a 15'' Sub from a kid I work with.

Im running a Kicker Solo 12 in a 4th order vented box. Only pushing about 200 watts though. Pioneer 6300 premier in the dash. Im in the middle of a rebuild. Im getting a "Snailshell" built by powered 4 sound for a RE 12. I have a JL 500 / 1 that will be running it. You absolutly must watch this video! Its 2- 6 1/2's that people swear are 12's....One 12 will play as loud as 2-12's and as low as 15's! Be sure to check all the vids out too! I think Sony sucks for Car Audio. I replaced my stock speakers with Infinity Kappa's. I used to push two Alpine Type-R 12"s with an Alpine amp (I can't remember the specs/model) but I sold them and have yet to replace them. I have an Alpine 9831 head unit with the Terk XM Radio adapter  |

Well since we seem to have some intelligent sound people in here, I might as well go ahead and ask my question... I just bought an '05 Civic a few months ago. It's special edition, so it has the 6-CD in dash stereo. I want to ad subs, but want to keep the head unit. Does anyone know if that's possible with this stereo? Here is a link to a picture of the stereo. Of course I'm at college now, so I can't actually go look at the stereo itself (to see what connections, etc. it has). Any insight would be appreciated! Thanks! ..by the way, I'm not really interested in spending a ton of money. Just a little something to add to the sound. |

Well i am pushing 4 DD 9515's where my back seat used to be. I have 4 fosgate t1000's pushing them. One for each sub. I have stock mids and highs. They are in a huge vented box i built with 300 square inches of port area tuned to 35 hz for daily listening. A 200 amp alt and 4 optima yellow tops supply the juice along with 1/0 gauge wire:)

Yes Brian you can keep your stock deck. If this is an install you will be doing yourself you need a "Line Output Converter" Which in laymans terms (I don't know how stereo savvy you are) converts the wires to plugs so you can hook up an amp for your sub(s). If you aren't sure of your abilities I would recommend a certified MECP Installer do it for ya!

I certainly wouldn't do it myself -- I don't know near enough. Glad to hear I can keep my stock deck! My roomate has a brother that's really into this kind of stuff, so he might be able to help me out on the installation (and what to purchase for that matter). It's probably lame that I don't even know this, but how much should I expect to spend? I'm in my car quite a bit (this summer I was working at the airport that was a little over an hour away), so I want something decent. I'm not really interested in something that will shake the hell out of my car haha

Cost on the converter anywhere from $20-$40 depending on brand. As far as Sub / box / amp...that's a choice only you can make. But in my opinion, if all you want is a little extra bass, while still keeping your trunk space. I would consider a Bazooka Tube: www.sasbazooka.com You can even get one with a built in amp. That makes installation a whole lot easier and clean. Also takes up less space while providing more than ample sound. Or you could do a wall like YoungStud!!! (Sounds nice by the way)

I LOVE car stereos. I USE to have one. Until it was stolen. Now I'm bitter. I want to get another though. Obviously not until after I get an alarm.

My car (Volvo 960) is over ten years old and the back speakers have blown out. I'm just too lazy to get them fixed. The sound system is pretty nice... I guess. I know nothing about cars, so I just like it if it can play some sort of sound. The back speakers will come on for one song, die for one song, come back for another and dance around off and on for another song. I've got a tape deck and radio. Looking to get one of those tape/cd converter deals. (I'm cheap.)

^ Speakers are really easy to do and even a moderately priced set (say $75 a pair) will be MUCH better than your stock speakers. A lot of people overlook speaker upgrades.
