Credible threat against NYC Subway system

The title says it all, here is a link: http://abcnews.go.com/US/story?id=1190231&page=1

Apparently, this was to happen in a few days and was just discovered in the past few days in Iraq by the military, CIA and FBI during raids.

Don't tell me these are copycat attacks of the London bombings. And I hope nothing happens in NYC.

Odd yet sad conicidence, but we haven't heard from Skye since the London bombings...

Uh oh, I take the subway to school and back home every single day. Hopefully another tragic terror attack won't happen.

You know, and I hate to sound like the devil's advocate on this... this is about the umpteenth "credible" threat I've heard since 9/11. But nothing happened.

I could theorize a lot of reasons why, but I'm not going to get into any arguments on it, though eventually I get the feeling we're going to be treating these like our weather reports.

That doesn't mean the threats weren't real. Maybe they're actually stopping these guys BEFORE they are able to pull something off, or maybe they're deterring them with the increased public awareness and police presence.

Either way, I'd rather be alerted before an incident that doesn't happen than not alerted to an incident that does...

I saw it on South African news. I'll pray for anyone if there'll be attacks. Sure don't hope so. I don't think america will withstand another tragedy, not so short after Katrina. What is our world coming too!?

Uuuh huh, it happens over hear and the US officials start jumping about having a spazz attack over the idea?

Remember 9/11 and how aprently somthign so similar was going to happen in London in the following weeks? Did it...? No.

Copycat bombings or not, i couldn't care less. The less peopel worry about this crap, the less meaning the word 'terrorist' will have.

I went into London today. I used the tube. As soon as stuff gets back to normal here, it seems somone has decided we better mess things up again out there...

Get on with your daily lives. If somthings gunna happen, it will, and you wont be able to avoid it.

these terrorist really need to take a philospohy class. ever since i took that i have had an open mind about life. and i got to tell you, i was pissed off when 9/11 happened. the thought of a attack now just outrages me. there is NO need for an attack. none. life is hard now without any bs to deal with. but ending the life of someone is just pointless. what will you succed in? NOTHING. there is no reason for violence. IF you really hate us so much, why dont you just LEARN to ACCEPT IT, LIKE EVERYONE ELSE???

To us, there's no reason. To extremists like them, they'll ascend to heaven and be rewarded with 71 virgins, or something like that.

I've got to agree with Steven on this one, though. It seems like the government is just being the boy who cried wolf on these attacks

Yeah, I agree with Aaron on everything. This warning seems like a load of shingles to me. I'll go in to the city this week w/o any fear. paranoia helps nothing, only ignorence.

yeah that would really work, great idea!

anyways these threats are the biggest pieces of crap that come out of the government. these terrorists are smart. no matter how much people hate them, they are smart. once it gets out in the public that there could be a possible attack, they will switch it to something else. so now when we're all expecting an attack in a subway, boom we get hit in the lincoln tunnel or on the GW bridge. they may as well just say that there is a very possible threat on every single building, tunnel, and bridge in the country. then when something does happen, they can say "we told you so"

I honestly think that they're trying to divert attention away from what they'll actually try and hit.

I don't see the problem with making a statement or raising the terror alert in some instances to keep people notified of what's going on. The government, police, etc cannot do everything, sometimes the assistance of the general public is needed. If there was a reasonable strong possibility that an attack could happen, should they simply leave us in the dark about it? If they did and an attack did occur, then Bush would be attacked by the media and the left wing. So either way, he's going to be critisized so that's why most who feel like me don't really care about what the left says since they'll blame him either way. To me, it's just a lot of liberals beinh a hypocrit.

I say if an attack is even a remote possibility, the government should let the public know.

Trains were slow yesterday as I was coming back home from a friend's house. The trains, the 4 train in particular, were all packed, probably because of all of the Yankee fans going to the game. Obviously the threat isn't driving many people away from the Subways.http://www.cnn.com/2005/US/10/08/newyork.subways/index.html

New Yorkers just need to be alert an look for anything suspicious. The police or whoever can't be everywhere at once. The public is just as important in keeping America safe as the authorites.

^^ I have a feeling that it won't be NY that gets attacked next. Why would you attack somewhere that they are expecting you to? My vote is EErie Indiana... Something big will happen there but nobody will notice...
