| | | Paid On-line Surveys? Have any of you ever heard of these? Apparently if you are over the age of 18 (or if you're 14 - 17 with parent's consent) there are websites that you can sign up for and they pay you to take surveys. I was wondering if anyone here has every done anything like this and if so, have you had good experiences?
Also, I've heard that while you can pay to get into a data - base of these survey websites, the actual survey websites are free of charge (since they pay you).

| | | If you're wanting to do it to make money, forget it. You don't.
I'm a member of a few survey panels- ones that I've checked out and know are reputable. Most times when I do a survey, I'm entered into a sweepstakes which I pretty much never win, or I might get $1-5, but that's only if I happen to fit the demographics that they're looking for and coplete the entire survey.
I get some money here and there, but it essentially comes out to a couple dinners out a month or something like that.
And don't ever pay to do it. Never. They're all free at least, and if you happen to get chosen for a narrow panel then they'll pay you. Not the other way around.

| | | I used to do focus groups for $50 a pop. We discussed various topics, went over predetermined ads, and then focused on the most effective. They lasted between 3-4 hours. Food was provided so we spent nearly half the time doing nothing but eating and joking around. After getting paid, we were on our way. A few years later, there was a good chance that we would see the ad we focused on.
It's supposed to be random, but I had connections. |

| | | yeah i dont see why more people dont go to those timeshare advertising meetings or other things like that. you listen to a bunch of crap and come out with a little extra cash. i know i'll do stuff like that when those telemarketers call. i dont see what the problem is with filling out those surveys. even if you dont get paid, sometimes its fun to fill them out anyways.

| | | I once did a survey and got a $5 check in the mail. But like Sir Willow said, it's not a means of making a some pocket money. They will send you surveys once in awhile, and you'll only be eligible for the $5 if they think you're in the right demographic they're researching on. And once you ARE eligible, you still have to fully complete the damned survey which seem endless in the amount of questions they shoot at you. ;) |

| | | I was looking into a couple of the sites, and I came across a couple that looked decent so I signed up. Since then I've qualified for 10 surveys and have made about $30 (in the couple of weeks since I signed up). And one site compansates you (granted very little) even if you don't qualify (I've made about $20 on that site). So I guess not all of them are terrible. For those that do make money, what companies do you go through?

| | | Yeah, I've done a few of these surveys. They aren't bad, but don't expect to make a living off them. A few Saturday's ago, I decided I would spend 6 hours doing nothing but paid surveys, and I only made $12.50. The checks also take a very long time to arrive (6 weeks usually), but it's a fun thing to do for extra cash if you're bored.
Also, you can get some great deals by going to those timeshare things. We got a week at an exclusive country club/resort in England (Belton Woods) because my dad went to 4 hours total of timeshare garbage. I had two bedrooms and 1.5 baths to myself (including a sweet Roman style shower room) in our cabin. Basically, you give up 4 hours of your time to listen to a bunch of crap, pretend to take notes, and look interested. In return, you save $2,800 a week and stay at a place you'd never stay at otherwise, which is a great deal.
