Perhaps the most shocking thing about students having sex in a high school auditorium was that other students didn't find it very shocking at all.

"I glanced over and, whatever, I just let him continue on with his business," said a 16-year-old linebacker on the Osbourn High School football team who, along with a friend, stumbled upon a couple engaging in oral sex. "I stayed for five to eight minutes, just talking. We weren't worried about it. When the janitor came in, everyone started running."

Manassas school officials weren't as laid back. The students -- eight in all -- were quickly identified and suspended, and the matter prompted the small school system to confront an issue many adults would rather not face: in this case, two girls and three boys engaging in oral sex or intercourse on school property while three other boys watched, according to sources familiar with what happened.

"In all the years that I've been in education, I've never run into this one before," said John Boronkay, the school system's acting superintendent. "It's a new one."

Actually, it's not so new. According to some teenagers, sex on school property is more frequent than adults might imagine. And some adults who work with teenagers said it's happening more often these days.

There's anecdotal evidence to support that:

Two students were discovered recently having sex in an Anne Arundel County high school gym. Four students at Col. Zadok Magruder High in Rockville were arrested in June after performing sex acts in the school parking lot. A boy and a girl at Springbrook High in Silver Spring were caught "touching inappropriately" in a school bathroom. Last year, three teenage boys at Mount Hebron High in Howard County were arrested after a student accused them of sexually assaulting her in a school restroom, but charges were dropped after the boys said the sex was consensual and the girl recanted.

"Students would have intercourse on the stairwells, locked classrooms, in the locker rooms," said Ihsan Musawwir, 18, a recent graduate of Dunbar Senior High School in the District. "It was embarrassing for me to walk in on it."

Jessica Miller, 19, who graduated in June from T.C. Williams High School in Alexandria, said that for some students there, sex on campus is a popular fantasy -- and sometimes a reality -- particularly in the auditorium.

"It's so big, it's so dark," Miller said. "There's a lot more places to find privacy -- behind the stage and on the catwalk."

But what's the appeal? "Just being rebellious," she said. "Coming back to class and saying, 'Ooh, guess what I just did? I just had sex in the auditorium.' "

Deborah Roffman, a Baltimore-based sexuality educator, said she has been hearing more about similar occurrences in the past five years. "Schools are calling me, asking, 'What do we do? We've had this incident at our school.' "

I'm not at all suprised.....but I also think that it is being blown out of proportion.

Haha, some girl at my school got caught giving some guy oral in one of the bathrooms. It's pretty funny because just about everyone in our school knows who she is and they always make sounds and other things when she is walking by.

Hahaha this is funny. It would totally suck to get caught but even worse if you were one of the guys "watching." How embarrassing.

A construction worker and football player "tagteam" raped a girl in a closed bathroom at our school two years ago. Another construction worker was spying on girls in the locker room from the ceiling, and my friend looked up and saw him. Damn construction workers, nowonder it took them so long to finish up.

Other than that I haven't heard of anything besides making out.

I know this happens quite often. I think administraters sometimes just turn the other way and decide not to deal with it. I guess this time was different.

I dont wan't any of the women in this site to take this offensively, but there are at least 10 "Hos" in our school. EastCoastn, we do the same thing to each of them. Some guys will walk up to them and hold out a quarter and say "Hey, what can I get with this?"

There were 3 guys just standing there and watching? Thats gross. I would only stand there and watch if hot women were taking off their clothes...for me :).

Regardless.....its a serious subject, but it IS being blown out of proportion. The rebellious factor is right on 100%. Thats the main reason why anything stupid is done at school, so you can stumble in to places and brag about what you did to make you "The badass" of school.

I don't see what's so surprising about this. Something like this happened at my high school so I don't see why it would be any different today.

That would have been interesting when I was in highschool. Being that it was an all-male school. Same thing with the school my sister went to, all girls.

But as sad as it is to say, it doesn't surprise me.

well i find this sick. sexs is a special thing that should only be between a married couple in a private place and people in todays world just give it away free like they can do it every day. thats why AIDS spreads like crazy and if we freaking kept our genes in our jeans then we would not have AIDS or other forms of STDS anymore and i remember the high school here in town my bestfriend went to and it was called the STD CAPITAL of the nation for high schools because of all this and i find that sick. people should keep there pants on.

I'm sure it happened when I was in school, but nobody ever got caught, and I never heard any bragging.

One guy DID get caught in the restroom... taking matters into his own hands, so to speak. That guy's probably gonna go on a rampage someday due to all of the ridicule he took.

That's totally not at all why AIDS spread, do some research. It's nice that he went to such a horrible disease riddled place. They certainly have a worse reputation than my school :rolleyes:

As long as you've had teenagers, you've had this kind of activity. These school officials were teens at some point themself and possibly involved in similar activity. The problem in todays society is that everyone is hypersensitive and trying to be politically correct in this media age and so these occurances get splashed in the headlines and people think that they have to react. It is my opinion that this activity happens daily in every high school around the world.

I dont know the precise frequency with which has happened in the past, but I can not imagine it happening nearly as frequently in the past as it seems to happen now.

I could be wrong, and don't get me wrong...I am sure it happened while I was growing up, and before I was growing up. I just dont think it happened nearly as much "in school" as it does today, or as much as it will in the future. Think about it from an enthusiasts point of view. Frequently we look to ride the tallest, fastest, most extreme coaster or ride out there as we are exposed to more of the world. Kids (all inclusive) are exposed to more sexuality through fashion, television, movies, et al...through society in general. Looking at television, while it was unrealistic, in 60's television when you did see the adults bed...it wasnt A bed, it was two seperate beds, yet now television thinks little of showing a larger single bed with both adults in it. This exposure continues to lead kids into what is considered acceptable, so I think this definitely plays a factor in the higher prevalence of this sort of thing being noticed.

Now, that is not to say that things like this DID NOT happen in the 60's or 70's or 80's....but I just think it was a LOT more rare to be happening ON school grounds. Need further comparison...look at oral sex. Some areas still have laws on the books that declare that oral sex is illegal in ANY situation (even that between two partners in the privacy of their bedroom)...and those laws are not even enforced. It is crazy yes, but it shows the evolution and acceptance of certain things by society.

I still think sex AT school is wrong, and should be punished, but it will continue to happen. Truth be told, as sex becomes more mainstream it definitely does NOT help the fight against AIDS or other STDs...but is it a singular result of teen sex IN school? Or even out of school? No, not the result of, but if someone has sex outside of the confines of marriage, then if proper precautions are taken the spread of HIV or other STDs can be more greatly controlled. AIDS etc... are spread more through irresponsible behavior (ie unprotected sex with an infected partner or in the case of drug use, sharing dirty needles or other spread of bodily fluids such as blood...saliva was not proven last I saw).

Just my two (or is it 200) cents worth.

Well, this story doesn't surprise me. When I was in High School, I knew a few girls that would give oral sex to guys in the bathrooms between classes.

This doen't surprise me. A guy was suspened last year for getting a hand job from a girl and she wasn't because she was made to do it. The girl wasn't foced to do anything and this was during class. If she was made to do it, she would have said something. She did it on her own free will. But sex is a happening at high school and as soon as 6th grade.

I live around most of those schools. Mount Hebron is about 15 minutes away, and the ones in rockville and silverspring aren't too far away. Schools around Howard County, Montgomery county, PG county, and D.C has always had a lot of problems with that. These people got caught, but I know there's alot more that goes on around here then what the authorites know. You really think that they would try to do something about it, but they haven't. Atleast in howard county.
