Earlsboro 112 - Hanna 2

EARLSBORO, Okla. - The Hanna High School basketball team can take some consolation: It didn't get shut out.

It did, however, lose 112-2 on Friday night to Earlsboro.

"It was embarrassing to watch," Earlsboro coach Jim Walling told The Oklahoman. "But you can't just tell your kids not to score. I've been coaching 27 years and have never been involved in something like this."

The Wildcats led 42-0 after one quarter and 73-2 at halftime. Walling pulled his starters in the second half, and game officials kept a running clock, stopping it only for free throws.

Each player on Earlsboro's 10-man boys' roster scored. Seven players finished in double figures.

Maybe I need to change the thread title so it gets more attention. This is really a sad story.

I wouldn't really call it sad since it's just high school basketball. It doesn't really matter much since judging by the score, the team doesn't have any players with any real talent. So there's no player who's going to college on a basketball scholarship. So they'll just feel crappy for a few days and it'll be over and joked about later among themselves.

That is pretty sad but it happens alot more often that you think. When i attended HS in 1993-96 i remeber hearing about 10 games where a team lost like 120-10 or less. The only game that sticks out to me is the Hunter Huss & Ashbrook game. Ashbrook 137, Hunter Huss 13.

I think that in HS games the loseing team should just call the game if their down by 30-40.

2 is by far the lowest score i have ever seen.

I dont get how thats possible, unless they were playing against a bunch of fourth grade girls (and hey even some of them are good). Its almost like they meant to do it.

I have never heard of a basketball game where a team scored two points. That must have been a hard game for them to get through.

Even at the high school level, you shouldn't run up the score to 112-2. Its just plain unsportsmanlike. (funky word, eh?)

You can tell your kids not to score, to some extent. When you're up by 50+ in a highschool game, thats unreasonable. You should start slowing the game up by then.
