Riot at School.

So, this morning, before school, there was a fight/riot that involved several students in our cafeteria and front entrance hallway of my 5A Texas high school. The administration was able to indentify about 30 kids involved in the riot. (that wasn't hard.) The pathetic thing was, the fight was basically a riot between certain kids at my high school, against refugees from Louisiana. Pathetic isn't it? It was really amazing and very fortunate that there were no firearms or weapons involved. The fight rippled and ricocheted through the hallway crowd and soon enough, it encompasses dozens of students.
But it's not the first incident of it's kind. I've heard that it's about turf, territory and respect. It makes some sense. I've heard that they Louisiana kids would mouth off to our kids, and our kids would respond. It's somewhat unclear to see who the blame lies upon. The first incident involved just about 10 or so kids, and was handled pretty quickly. A good majority of the refugees who attend my school are amazing people, it's just the bad kids, often stay bad,I guess. Since that previous incident (a Texas - Louisiana standoff), my high school stepped up it's security had teachers placed everywhere to help control any disturbances.
Well, there were teachers stationed at the location of the riot. My freshman English teacher had to choke one girl to get her off another girl, he had to punch a guy in the stomach to get him off another guy. My AP English teacher was knocked to the ground and was trampled by students running from the riot. She had to scream bloody murder in order for students to finally help her get up. And my AP English teacher is an older woman, one you'd think of as a sweet grandmotherly type. (And she is very sweet.) The Associate Principal (Second in command) was pulled to the ground, and dragged several feet. My head principal took several blows, but he's a man of great stature, so he was alright. I saw him at the end of the day, and he looked verys stressed and rattled.
On my way to school, I pulled up along the side of the school drive, and noticed a big group of kids standing outside the entrance. I thought to myself, Oh, just a fight. I pulled into the drive, and walked to the entrance and was directed to enter the school at another door. I glanced inside the main entrance, and saw several police officers and the principals. I found out first period that there was a riot. If I had arrived not even 5 minutes before, I would have found myself sucked into the riot, as several of my friends were. The entire day there were police and teachers everywhere. It's amazing that some other kids had the nerve to start other fights that spun off after the riot.
At the end of the day, there were police from the ISD and the city through out the area, especially by the school buses. There also have been crazy and scary rumors that people will bring weapons and whatnot to school tomorrow. That makes me rather nervous. It may not be true, but still it rattles me. It would stink to die at school, of all places.

So, any thoughts? Experiences? Has anything happened at your school similar to this?

What a crazy world I live in. I'm really sorry that things had to build up and come down to this.

There were a lot of fights and stuff when I was in high school. I don't know if any of them were as big as the one you described but there were plenty of stuff. Stabbings, shootings, people getting jumped just because of one stupid reason or another.

I remember one time, some friends and I were walking outside after school going home. We saw a bunch of people on the other side of the front of the school running around like lunatics. I didn't think much of it. The next day I heard there was a shooting. Funny thing was is that the shooter accidentally hit his friend instead of his intended target.

It's a sad world that kids can't be safe in high school.

That's pretty crazy. The only major thing that happened when I was in High School was a stabbing, and that was kept to a very small incident.

Also they are not refugees. A refugee is "an individual who has left his or her native country and is unwilling or unable to return to it because of persecution or fear of persecution (as because of race, religion, membership in a particular social group, or political opinion)" (dictionary.com). They are not people from another country seeking refuge, they are Americans that are just displaced in America. People find it offensive because the term is suggesting that they were not part of the country.

I understand that you probably say it all of the time and don't mean anything by it, but you do have to be aware of it. I'm not trying to be the PC police with it, especially since I hate when people do that, but it is a sore spot for the African American community and I know that I get a wierd disturbed feeling every time that I see the victims of Hurricane Katrina referred to in that way.

We never had a riot, there were several fights I remember (one in particular was hillarious between two girls who had each other by the back of their hair).

I remember however there was this guy who was not supposed to talk about his Christian faith in his campaign speach for Class President. Well he did it anyway (in front of the entire school) and they told him he could not serve. The whole school voted him in anyway and the school still did not allow him to serve.

So most of the school did a sit-in during one of the periods during the week. The media was there and everything it was hillarious.

But the thing is, most people did it just to do it. Not because they agreed with the guys beliefs.

And when I look back on it, he really shouldn't have do it that way, but hey when you're a teenager you do things that you might have done differently as an adult.

Oh and by the way, I went to the sit-in. I'm such a rebel ;).

Sharky let us know how it went today.

The reason why you had a riot in your school is because our fearless moron of a leader (George W<--- Buffoon!) is the most lame duck President in history.

So much more should have been done in preparation for the oncoming hurricane, and it was not done. After it was over, why did it take the President one week to finally make his way there? Any answers?

Why is his approval rating at an all time low? Why is it that there is no trust in him?

Why is the middle class so over-burdened under this administration while those that are rich receive major tax breaks??

Why are we invovled in a war where there were supposedly WMD's? NO WMD'S WERE EVER FOUND!! Saddam Hussein has been captured...it has been time for a VERY LONG TIME to bring our troops home.

Saddam Hussein had nothing to do with 9/11, although many people believe otherwise. And, it is going on almost 4 years that Osama Bin Laden has not been captured. What's wrong with this picture?

Ohhh...I forgot. The real reason we are in Iraq is because of our illustrious leader's personal reasons...anyone know how to say OIL??

Anyone up for an impeachment next year? Because that is the soonest we will be able to impeach this good for nothing idiot.

There...I am done. Someone please do something to get this incompetent fool and his associate Darth Vader (Cheney) out of office, and fast!!!

Um, Joe Donuts...it was more New Orlean's fault than Bush's anyway

At a nearby high school there was a gun threat that made over 400 kids stay home both monday and tuesday. I haven't heard anything else except the fact that officials were taking it seriously.

Lately at school there have been a lot of fights. 90% involved the same girl...Kale. Everyday she tries to start ***** with almost anyone and then acts like she did nothing. There was almost one today in my 8th hour class because of her (she was starting it up) and she also got in one 7th hour too. Last year she was expelled from a school for fighting. This year she got suspended for fighting and was kicked off the drill team too (good thing, cause noone wants to see her shakin that thing).

The other day I almost got beat up in fact. Some kid next to me yelled the N word and he was black...so to him it was ok. This other huge black dude next to me thought it was either me, or the white kid in front of me. I was scared as hell, and then the kid who yelled it was like damn man that was hilarious huh? I was just like screw you.

As for riots, I do not see any happening at my school. We have seen it all, from catfights to gang fights but never a riot. I hope there never is one. And it definitely wouldnt be because of New Orleans refugees becasue we ahve maybe 1 or 2 in our entire school.

Good luck lectricShark.

Joedonuts, Please go vent your frustration on a political forum. I may agree with you on some issues, but please, stay on topic. Your not going to change anybody's mind over the internet.

Well i remember the riot at my middle school lol. I was in 9th grade. That means that was our last year there so we had to do something lol. There were no fights or anything, Just a bunch of Teenagers having fun on the last day of school. It all started at lunch, of course we had to have the standard Food fight. That only lasted about 40 seconds lol. Everyone basically threw a couple of things and ran for cover lol. After that they had to dismiss us from the lunch room one table at a time to calm us down.

So the Principal came in the luch room with a podium and microphone and everytime she would speak, the lunch room booed her lol that was hilarious. She was super mad. The funny thing was, i saw the 8th grade principal laughing in the corner behind the main principal lol. N-E-Ways, about 20 minutes later we were all out of the caf and in the hall way lol Thats where the "Riot" began.

At one end of the hallway someone let off a stink bomb. and in one section of the hallway the security guards had to put up huge steel gate that blocked the entrance to the "passageway" because people poured baby oil on the ground so people could slip on it lol. Kids started to break that gate down. Then i ws walking down to the other end of the hallway when all of a sudden, i heard this rumbling noise behind me. When i looked, there was a huge stampeed running straight for me. It felt like i was in a movie.

So I started to run and when i got to the far end i leaped into my classroom lol. That was fun. After that someone pulled the Fire alarm. So everyone in the school was outside. I was in the front of the school and the majority of the students were in the back. People were trashing the football field and trying to pull the flag out front off the pole. I heard someone broke a car window of a teacher. It was crazy!!!!!1 No one got hurt through out this whole thing. The best part was that the school let us go home 20 minutes early and we didn't have to finish our finals in our classes. That was great. That was in 1999.

the year before when i was in 8th grade, we had a bomb threat and people were flippin out and leaving the school and crying but nothin happened. Man those were the days.

Well, in the 3 years I went to my High school, I never witnessed a single fight, But I did have friends that witnessed fights. Not witnessing a single fight amazes even me because at the time I went to My High School( Collins Hill), the school was the Largest in the State of Georgia.
