What (if anything) do you celebrate over the holidays

Just curious what everyone celebrates in the way of holidays.

We have Jewish and Christian posters and I'm sure there are those with other beleifs.

So what do you celebrate in the way of holidays this time of year and how does your family celebrate it?

For myself I celebrate:

Thanksgiving - Family gets together with my brother's wifes family and we have a big family meal and enjoy each other's company.

Christmas Eve - This is when my immediate family gets together and opens presents and we have a big meal.

Christmas - We usually just hang out and relax all day.

About a week after Christmas - The BIG family meal with my Mom's side of the family and the rest of my immediate family.

EDIT:

New Year's Eve-When it's in town I go to Bill Gaither's "Jubilate" New Year's Eve gospel concert. Southern Gospel is not my favorite by a long shot, but I can stand it for one night. Otherwise I watch Dick Clark and go to bed at 12:10. lol Or like last year, fall asleep on the couch and then wake up at 12:15 and miss the whole thing. lol

So discuss already.

Thanksgiving...but in Oct

Christmas Eve...me and my parents sit around the TV eating a bunch of finger foods, having a few drinks, and watching movies

Christmas Day...open presents with my parents, go to whichever relative's house thats hosting the big dinner, open family presents (repeat for dad's side of family)

New Years Eve...sit at home, watching TV

Thanksgiving - As Wildfyre already said, I did that back in October. I always get at least 2 thanksgiving dinners. My parents are divorced, so they each have a dinner. My dads side of the family also has a big family dinner. The first turkey dinner is good, but by the 3rd one I'm completly sick of turkey and mashed potatoes...lol

Christmas Eve - My family doesn't really do anything. My family just relaxes and goes to bed early I guess...nothing too memorable

Christmas day - Open presents and all that Santa Clause stuff. And again, my dads side of the family usually has a big dinner.

New Years - Get away from the house and family and party with friends until we either run out of money or fall asleep, lol.

Thanksgiving: Minnesota, Iowa, or South Dakota

St. Nickoloustag (St. Nickolas Day): The pre-X-mas holiday in which you clean your shoes, but them by the door, and wait until morning, when they're "mysteriously" filled with candy and presents. Widely celebrated in Germany.

Christmas Eve: church and presents with a dinner of cheese, crackers, meats, and other halfway-filling food

Christmas Morning: stockings, then breakfast

Dec. 26 - Jan. 1: Family X-mas celebration and New Years with friends at a cabin up north.

Jan 9: my birthday!

We generally celebrate the Christian part of the holidays, but don't limit ourselves to that. Thanksgiving is a time for just that- giving thanks, while being with family, friends, and having a nice meal. Christmas is a time for celebrating the birth of Christ, but with all the trimmings that come with it. However, Jesus is the center of our holiday.

We do one other thing different though- we also celebrate Hannukah, at least in a fashion. We don't do the gifts each night, but we do light the candles, tell the stories, and celebrate God's provision for the Jewish Maccabees.

Generally, barring any extra trips, my family (Mom's side) gathers at our cousins where we enjoy two turkeys done in those deep cookers. Mom's tradition is a bologna sandwich for "supper" on Thanksgiving. General tradition is bowling on Thanksgiving night.

Christmas Eve, we have my Dad's sister over and we enjoy the traditional Catholic and Polish Christmas Eve dinner. We have Mac & cheese, hard boiled eggs, cottage cheese, coffee cake and Opwatki. Also on this night, my brother and sister and I exchange our presents and open them. Tradition also when our grandmother was still with us, was to get new pajamas.

Christmas day brunch includes Ham, potato salad, fruit salad, coffee cake, keilbasa and Opwatki. We also open our gifts from our stockings (hung by the chimney with care) and those under the tree left by Santa.

Here's the drill:

Thanksgiving: I have a really small Thanksgiving with usually about....4 to 6 other people...Its a small family sort of feeling and I really like it. I will start having to travel home and to school once I go to college.

Christmas: The big one but with just my family. We drive up to Portland Oregon to visit my sister who is with Oregon Ballet Theatre. The Ballet Company has a performance...the Nutcracker so its our family duty to view her performance. Christmas Eve we go out for a huge dinner. During our time up there I spend time snowboarding over at Mt. Hood

New Years Eve: We spend the day over at my Grandmas eating a HUMONGOUS lunch....then head back home. I hang out with friends...last year we hung out in my friends garage till daylight hit or something....

Thanksgiving: Immediate family members, 1st cousins and Godparents (Aunt and Uncle) is what our Thanksgiving consists of. It is always here at our house. We usually have pounds upon pounds of food which is awesome. Thanksgiving, the only day where it is accepted to be fat and lazy at the same time :D

Christmas Eve: Go to my Aunts house. We have little cousins so we hire someone dressed up as Santa to come by and give every 1 little present. Then we have a Christmas eve dinner which is cooked by my Grandma and Aunt is absolutely amazing.

Christmas: In the morning we go down to the Christmas tree and open any presents that "Santa" left for us. Then we have a Christmas breakfast and use some of the gifts or play with them or whatnot. Then that afternoon the same family from Thanksgiving and xmas eve come and before our big Christmas dinner we open presents that all the family members got eachother and say Thanks to everyone and stuff like that.

New Years Eve: Well its different every year. Last we had a nice big kegger at some girls house. The party consisted of about 12-13 people and we all slept over. This year were all planning a big 3 day trip to vermont of New Years Eve. I never spend New Years or New Years Eve with family, only friends.
