| Sharp Objects Not Banned On Air Planes
Some shapr objects are no longer banned on air planes. Scissors are allowed and so are some other objects. I'm not exaclty sure what the other ones are. I was reading about this on AOL News. I tried to find the article to quote it on here, but I couldn't find it. What do you think?

I think some objects should be allowed sharp wise. Like knitting needles, really is someone gonna take over a plane with a knitting needle? Give me a break! Or I love no nail clippers, yeah let me rip off your cuticle if you don't land this plane! <rolls eyes> Honestly, scissors, knives, anything that can be used to stab someone shouldn't be allowed on a plane. Just my two cents.

I accidently clicked no on the poll, but I really don't care if sharp objects are banned or not. When I'm on a plane, I'm usually listening to my iPod, watching a movie, playing PSP, or making strange noices from the bathroom. I'm not worried about sharp objects.

It really just depends on the object. Scissors shouldn't be allowed unless maybe they're safety scissors. They can barely cut paper, do you think they could really cut a human?

They won't allow noraml or pointed scissors, they have to be rounded. On our recent trip to Europe, we got searched at every security checkpoint because my mom had scissors in her garment bag. They were rounded, and so every time the search was just a waste of time. I can understand most sharp objects not being allowed, especially knitting needles. If you sharpened one of those, it would be a dagger/stake that could easily kill someone. The nail clipper blade could be sharpened I guess, but it could only be used to cut someone from close range, so it really isn't much of a threat.

Don't be naive, killing someone with an unsharpened pencil isn't hard. There are handbooks out there that are filled with information on how to kill somone. Bare handed or with light tools, "soft spots" are dicussed in a how to aspect. Anyone with the proper train would have been able to take over the plane despite the restrictions. |

I think that it is fine that they are atleast letting somethings go by. I read on a couple sources that you shouldn't bring wrapped gifts with you. Security will simply unwrap it in front of you to see whats inside.

Remember 9-11 hijackers took the planes with I think it was letter openers or something like that...

I don't care as long as long as it's not a actual weapon. If some guy tried to take over the plane with scissors, I'd just kick him in the balls.

You kick him in the balls while he stabs you in the neck. I don't like your odds. The likely scenerio that would happen is he's slightly winded while you're on the floor aisle bleeding to death. I think certain sharp objects should still be prohibited from flight. While things like scissors and other objects like that aren't regularly used as weapons, they can be very dangerous when someone wants to use them as a weapon and is willing to die for his cause. Think about it like this, would prisonors be allowed to have some of these things? Because a terrorist hijacker is just as likely and really more likely to use anything he can as a weapon just as a prisoner might. While the chance of these events happening can be made less and more difficult to be pulled off, it will never be impossible. With that, I don't see a reason to make it easier.

It wasn't just some guy, it was a small group of 3-6 per plane and they were well trained. They could have taken over the plane with their bare hands. Box cutters are an easier method; however it was more likely that they used knifes carved from nylon or another hard plastic. Mace or pepper spray was also used. Most people don't have a tolerance for them. Tolerance of course can be built up from several exposures likely used during training.

^Yeah, as you've said Marc, most well-trained terrorists (and anti-terrorists) are easily capable of taking over an aircraft without any weapons. All you'd need is a fairly empty flight (such as the early morning cross-country flights that were hijacked on 9-11).

If you can stab someone with it, then it should not be allowed.

Pretty soon you will have to board the planes naked.

^I wouldn't mind that on Hooters Air :) ...well as long as the flight attendants had to do it too
