Right now, the sun is trying to poke through some gray clouds. I believe some evening/night showers are on the way though.

The dry spell is once again in full force for southern Texas. It rained for the first time, a couple of days ago, since last October. It's been like a cycle:

1995-1997: Extreme drought to the point we had to intensely restrict water use.

1998-1999: Three tropical storms plus a category-four hurricane slammed into the south Texas coast, nearly erased the preceding drought.

2000-2001: Another unusually dry pattern brought back another drought, but not quite as severe as the last one.

2002-2004: The summer and fall of 2002 brought a hyper-activity of severe weather to our area, that not only erased our decage-long drought, but kept us flooded for a long while. July 2003 brought us another hurricane, and even more rounds of severe thunderstorms came in the spring of 2004.

2005-2006: Dry spell returns yet again; with a period of no rainfall lasting seven months.

Alright, we're getting a high of only 82 tomorrow and a low of 60! Might have to wear a light jacket in the morning. Plus, we're supposed to get some rain.

Today, we have our second heat advisory of the year (the first one came in February).

Temperatures are in excess of 110 degrees in a large portions of south Texas. Corpus Christi set a record high today of 102 degrees with a heat index of 110. Laredo is currently at 114 degrees, with a heat index of 119. This is a bit of a heat wave even for us.....we don't usually see temps like these until July.

The National Weather Service in Corpus Christi has issued a heat advisory, in effect until 7 p.m. today.

Heat indices are ranging from 110 to 118, thanks to a combination of high temperatures and high dew points. Temperatures reportedly have reached 109 in the Rio Grande plains and the upper 90s near coastal counties.

The counties affected are: Aransas, Bee, Calhoun, Duval, Goliad, Jim Wells, Kleberg, La Salle, Live Oak, McMullen, Nueces, Refugio, San Patricio, Victoria and Webb.

The air temperature at the Corpus Christi airport was 102 degrees at 2:51 p.m. The previous high temperature for May 10 was 95 degrees. The National Weather Service urges people not to spend time outside, to drink plenty of water, to wear light-colored and light-weight clothes and spend time in an air-conditioned environment.

A heat advisory such as this one is issued whenever the heat index is expected to reach at least 110 degrees for two hours or more.

Light rain is falling right now with a temperature of 56 degrees. Showers are supposed to come in chunks that get heavy at times, and will be tampering off by Mid-Afternoon on Saturday.

It is cloudy and 55 degrees right now. Some more rain is expected tonight, and scattered throughout Monday and Tuesday. The end of the week, however is looking nice with sunny skies and temperatures reaching the low 70's.

I saw the sun for the first time since early Wednesday today.

For about an hour before it went back behind the clouds. Not gonna see it again until Wednesday of this week most likely.
