It was 104 degrees this afternoon with a heat index of 116 degrees -- and to think it's not even summer yet. I generally consume six bottles of water plus four bottles of Gatorade to stay hydrated and energized through the day. The rule of thumb supposedly prescribed by fitness trainers is for every bottle of Gatorade, two additional bottles of water is recommended to combat fatigue and dehydration. We probably won't set another record of 14 consecutive weeks of triple-digit highs (100+ degrees) like we had last year in the summer of 2009; we might get close to that though.

It was slightly warmer on Sunday with high of 105 degrees and a heat index at 120 degrees. Cooling down considerably on Monday only looking at 97 degrees and dramatically less humid (heat index might hover slightly past 100 degrees if that much).

We had so much rain Friday that I was soaked when I got off work. Goliath got struck by lightning in that storm and the thunder that came with it was LOUD.

We are looking at 103 degrees tomorrow with a heat index as high as 111 degrees. We are also keeping an eye on Tropical Depression Alex entering the Bay of Campeche off the Yucatan Peninsula heading towards the Texas/Mexico border. It is forecast to be upgraded to a Tropical Storm sometime early morning tomorrow.

We are bracing for Tropical Storm Alex, which is soon to become a hurricane later today. After what we went through from Dolly and Ike from two years ago, no one around here is taking any chances. ![]() The storm's center will remain just south of Texas, which is bad news for the Texas coast due to the winds coming from the gulf, which means Texas will get nailed with the expected twenty-foot storm surge waves. Tropical Storm Warnings are in effect from from Freeport, Texas to Kingsville, Texas; and from Las Cruz, Mexico to Cabo Rojo, Mexico. Hurricane Warnings are in effect from Kingsville, Texas to Las Cruz, Mexico Note to Thrillnetwork members: Should I lose power again like I did two years ago, I'll continue to be in contact with a staff member, and he or she will keep everyone updated on my status. This is only expected to be a Category Two storm, so we're not looking at much in the way of damages, except for the beaches, but loss of power is anticipated for some time (anywhere from hours to days).

I hate the Spill keeps going on. At least the hurricanes held off this long.

Hurricane Alex brought loads of moisture and rainfall, as well as much cooler temperatures; only upper 80s the last two days....we haven't been this cool since mid-March. More of the same, looking at a wet weekend in South Texas, and continued cooler weather as it's not getting too far above 90 degrees.

Remaining on the cooler side staying less than 100 degrees for the next several days, although the heat index will approach 100. Only looking at 94 degrees tomorrow, eleven degrees below where we normally are this time of the year. Overnight lows still hovering around the 80 degrees mark. The source of this cooler conditions is the surface winds coming from the gulf, bringing all that moisture and continued rainfall, still very much needed rain even after the flooding brought by Hurricane Alex. I kind of wish it was last year all over again, where we stayed above 100 degrees for a record 118 consecutive days (mid-May to mid-September).

I'll tell you Jimmy it's not Texas hot here. The parking lots would still be beaming out heat from 9-11 at night if that was the case.
