Nightclubs and nightlife.

For all of us "of age," what kind of nightlife do you guys prefer (or not)?

Pubs? Sports bars? Dance clubs? Lounges? Dive bars?

Also share with us some of the best places (top 5) to go in your area for "a night out on the town."

Well, when I did go out and party there were a few places I would head to in Pittsburgh.

If we wanted to go dancing we went to The Matrix. I liked the fact that they played music I knew instead of that crazy ass techno crap.

For just hanging out and having a good time....

Good Times (BEER PONG!)
Tiki Bar
Casey's (Hey, free shots from a little person on the bar! Score!)
Fat Heads
Nick's Fat City (lot of local bands played there
Jack's Bar (Best place in the city for pitchers of Alabama Slammers)

Most of these are all located on Carson Street. Park your car and bar hop. But we always took a cab home or had a designated driver.

I've never really been into the bar and nightclub scene. I much prefer staying in with friends, having drinks, and just laughing at random things...we always have a good time. Plus, I'm not one for paying for overpriced food and drinks.

That said, I've only been to one real night club and didn't exactly have the best time. Being a white male, I tend to stay off of the dance floor. Although I do enjoy going to a pool hall by my girlfriend's place called Doolys for a few games and a drink or two with our friends.

Years ago I would go to a couple of the dance clubs in Philly in Center City, close to the river. Then during college on College Nights I went to a bar named Katmandu in Trenton. About post college a friend got me into local music. I follow a local band out of Philly named IKE. It's 5 years now so I'm out of that cover band scene. The bar to see them and core of the united Philly local rock scene was at Grape Street in the trendy Manayunk neighborhood that borders the Schukyll River in Philly. I would drive 45 minutes through Center City to get there. Great bar, great music and sadly this February it closed. What a shot to local music.

Recently I've been going to a nearby bar with my coworkers. They like how close by it is. We don't have to drive far. It actually used to be my
family's restaurant. Right now the bar is going through an identity change. We've known it as Big Ed's/Riverdeck and now Just Sports. I could go to a club in AC but I really don't care about cover $30, dressing up. I know I'm not really going to dance. Why should I care?

I don't know too many drinks and just drink a couple beers mostly. I like going to Hooters for wings and some sports.

I visited a friend in Hermosa two years ago. I was wondering about Whiskey Tango in I guess West Hollywood, Santa Monica?

I used to do the night scene...there were a few bars we'd hit, ones we knew wouldn't be too crowded and where the crowd was a mix of everyone instead of the preppy-frat-jock types.

Now I do about 2 or 3 bars, getting home around 10pm. I avoid sports bars and the college bars at night, though I'll go to them in daylight. I'm pretty much a "townie" and hang out in the townie-type bars, ones where most college kids wouldn't be caught dead.

I prefer dive bars and bars with live music or sports. Given that I'm only a year out of school, I still like going to college bars and playing beer pong and getting cheap deals on bad beer. I don't enjoy clubs. The areas in the city I like to go out are the Lower East Side, East Village, Greenwich Village, and my neighborhood, Park Slope, Brooklyn.

I... don't drink. But if my friends are going some place (smoke free) I'll go with them just to hang out.

I've noticed the difference with the New Jersey smoking ban. Thank goodness. I was beginning to see the effects in Philadelphia now too.

^ On the flip-side, I never knew a California where smoking was allowed inside restaurant or bar establishments...the concept of only allowing smoking outside seems so "natural" (for lack of a better word).

Which is why I love going to Vegas...being able to smoke indoors is actually a treat.

As for the Los Angeles area...there are lots of different places I love to hit up. I don't have a preference, so I'll find myself in a pub one night and a trendy nightclub on another. Just depends on what the group decides they want to do that night. There's just so much nightlife in the area that it's hard to find something new and fresh to see.

All the good nightlife here is out in the Hollywood area (Silverlake, Hollywood, West Hollywood) and in downtown L.A.

I love the dance clubs. I don't really go that much anymore but between the ages of 18 & 24 i was there 3 times a week. I even drove to DC just to visit a club that i heard was the best on the east coast and i was not dissapointed. Sadly it's closed now.

^I went there. Like, 6 or 7 years ago. Now I can't remember the name of it. But I know which one you're talking about cuz EVERYONE talked about it. We went for a J Magick/Erick Morillo/Harry Romero set and it was off the chain. It's gonna drive me crazy that I can't think of the name of it. I remember it was painted all black on the outside and had like 4 or 5 levels inside.

The only club I need, is my apartment. We play poker, drink Jager, play some rock band, then I usually puke.

Good times.

I'm so over beer pong.

Like I need a game to play to drink beer.

I did Webster Hall in the NYC once. I haven't taken a train back for a night since. I was around the bars near the Hard Rock in Dallas, now closed, as well as Poly Ester's on the Riverwalk in San Antonio.

Hey, James is indie. He chooses his own path. I too didn't drink, and was against it. Then I actually grew a pair of testicles, tried it, and realized it was fun.

Oh, Kyle, great drinking game is this: Watch Star Wars. Everytime the Force is mentioned, take a shot.

^We tried that with that HBO series, Everwood. Whatever that series was named that was set in the old West. Anyhow, every time **** was mentioned, we had to do a shot. We didn't make it to the 30 minute mark because of the frequency we would be doing shots...and we were laughing our asses off.

Ha, Deadwood. I just finished watching all 3 seasons the other day. That would be a great drinking game, either that word or c*cksucker.

The only places like this I go to are bars and such where they have live music, usually because I know someone in the band.

I never cared for the clubs, probably because I never felt cool or felt like I fit in those places. Plus I don't drink. Not that I'm saying those that do are bad or whatever. I just don't care for it.
