George Carlin Dead at 71

I was shocked when I saw this. He was a great comedian and opened so many doors for other comedians. RIP George.

The dean of counterculture comedians, Carlin constantly pushed the envelop with his jokes, particularly with a routine called “The Seven Words You Can Never Say On TV.”

When Carlin uttered all seven at a show in Milwaukee in 1972, he was arrested for disturbing the peace. And when they were played on a New York radio station, they resulted in a Supreme Court ruling in 1978 upholding the government’s authority to sanction stations for broadcasting offensive language.

Thats very sad. he was a very funny man and i liked him alot. he will be missed.

i'm sure he will continue in the big comedy club in the sky.

I felt bad at first cause it's been so long since i even heard his name i had no idea who he was until i looked up a picture. The name didn't click right away.

I am now totally bummed. He was my favorite comic. His specials were very edgy and he was very honest.

He was a great comic and good man. He will be missed.

Katie, who loved his seven words you can't say on tv.

I liked him and I'll miss it too when he toned it down to play the Conductor on that Shining Time Station, the show with the Thomas the train in it.

Great comedian! I must admit though that I found his last HBO special pretty weak...you could tell he wasn't in the greatest shape.

He will be missed!

"There are 400,000 words in the English language, and there are 7 you can't say on television. Wow, what a ratio that is...399,993:7. They must really be bad."

He did a good parody of America the Beautiful as well.

I was just about to post this as well. How sad, he is one of my favorite comedians. I always had a good laugh at all his shows. I am sad I have never had a chance to see him live though. RIP George, you will be missed.

He was definitely one of my favorite comedians as well, although I haven't seen much of his work. I discovered him by accident via HBO and have liked his work ever since. He was simply awesome.
