Hurricane Ike

It is currently a Category Two storm with winds of 105 MPH -- which is about the same strength as Hurricane Dolly was back in July when it leveled the Brownsville area. Its central pressure has now dipped to a very intense 955 millibars.

Here is the storm track:

HURRICANE WARNINGS:
-- In effect from Corpus Christi, Texas to Morgan City, Louisiana.
-- The city of Houston is squarely in the line of fire of the storm. That means the eye is projected to pass right over the city.

TROPICAL STORM WARNINGS
-- From Morgan City, Louisiana to Biloxi, Mississippi
-- From Corpus Christi, Texas to Brownsville, Texas.

My favorite local band IKE has got plenty of jokes from this storm. I told them they must have tickets to Monday night's EAGLES Dallas game to swing into Texas so early.

But really threatening property, lives, the possible damage with water and wind is not funny at all. I thought Houston had enough bad situations with Enron and Rita's flooding before? Good luck Jimmy and other Texans. I know the Astros Cubs are at least off these next two days. Hopefully the Bullet to the Kemah Boardwalk is not too big.

The storm will pass straight over my home. Tomorrow morning, the storm's center is supposed to pass over my city... My entire county is covered in red at that time, with that indicated hurricane force winds...

Uh... I don't think I'll be posting for a while...

He lives in the town of Conroe -- a 40 miles north of downtown Houston and 90 miles from Galveston. He's nowhere near danger and should be just fine.

We'll just be out of power for a couple of days, downed trees, but I doubt there will be flooding in my area, just a lot of rain.

I've got water, food, candles, flashlights and some good books to read the next few days.

I'll say again, he is not anywhere near Galveston, which is to take the brunt of the storm. This is as intense as it's going to get at a Category 2.

Furthermore, I have been through hurricanes of similar intensity, and as long as you use common sense and do basic preparation, you will be just fine.

Galveston has the indoor Schlitterbahn right? Hopefully the roof sheets will survive.

It'll just make the water park slides more intense and extreme.

And the Kemah Boardwalk is about 25 miles north of Galveston, and is located right next to the Galveston Bay.

It's here, it's here, Ike's here to rain and knock around the Houston are with its wind, water and hurricane-ness.

I still have power and internet right now, but I have a feelingr it's not going to last for the next few hours. Things are flickering...

I think Schlitterbhan should be okay. Moody Gardens was actually already flooding yesterday morning, the parking lots were flooded, though I'm not too certain about the actual pyramids. I'm certain that Schlitterbahn's structure was created for hurricane-force 'stuff' so I am thinking it'll be okay. Hopefully the things outside of the enclosed spaces remain okay. Kemah is getting battered, as well. We'll see how Boardwalk Bullet does.

Hurricane Ike got lowered to a Tropical Storm. Winds are 60 MPH.

Judging by the photos the coast got pretty messed up from the flooding, but the city of Houston looks okay. Broken windows, blown over trees etc. Honestly just looks like their local NBA team won the Championship and everyone rioted in the city (LA Lakers anyone?)

Hope everyone is ok and weathered the storm ok. I'm sure alot of power is out. I just glad it didn't reach cat 3 status but a cat 2 is still major and i was blown away by the size of this hurricane.

Can anyone confirm but i heard that the levies in NO didn't fair so well which shocks me since NO was just grazed by this storm.

New Orleans wasn't really touched. Slidell, on the other hand, saw flooding.

By the way, if you really want to know, just do a Google search on New Orleans TV, rather than potentially start a rumor?

"Rescue crews search for survivors who ignored evacuation orders

Rescue crews navigated flooded and debris-strewn streets Saturday to search for those who insisted on staying and riding out a fierce Hurricane Ike, which shattered skyscraper windows, cut power to millions and flooded thousands of homes as it sloshed across the Texas coast.
•Boiling order for Houston water
•Mayor White: Conserve water
•911: Life-threatening calls only
•Stay inside
•Massive power outages" - Khou.com

Boiling water. That and the broken skyscraper windows just struck the reality of it with me.

Reliant Stadium got enough roof damage the moved to Monday night Texans-Ravens game is postponed for the time being. "Hurricane Ike tore chunks off Reliant Stadium's roof and the damage can't be fixed in time for Monday's game." - nfl.com. If it can't get fixed into October - Astrodome?

Mayor of Galveston said the island is closed off.

Ike damages Texans' stadium, Monday's game iffy - NFL - Yahoo! Sports

Why do people have to be hard-asses and try and ride out the storm? Then emergency crews have to endanger their own lives to rescue these Yahoos.

I honestly would not help them if i were an emergency worker. I guess that's why i'm not. I would just leave them there.

Its a sad situation with Hurricane Ike. Im just glad it wasnt a Category 4 like they predicted.

I live way up in Michigan and we have a warm front & low pressure system moving through....the moisture from Ike was brought up along the ridge this morning so that guarantees us even more rain up here. We were in a Tornado Warning Earlier and we will remain in a threat through tomorrow.

The remnants of this storm will spread out and most of the nations mid-section will have a chance of heavy rain and isolated tornadoes tomorrow.

Somewhat....the remnants fed into the fronts that are moving through right now (the warm front sector was right over my city earlier).

My point is, the front portion of Ike (which isnt here yet) also is feeding into the fronts & system and the moisture from Ike surged upward to meet the front and thats what prompted the Tornado Warning up here.

Needless to say, when the "actual" remnants of Ike get here...we'll already be water logged.

How are things in your neck of the woods Andrew? Downpouring there too?

How about those who live in Ike's affected area?

I don't think I've ever had a full night without power. It's humid in Jersey tonight. I'm thankful I can run things.
