| I went out on my first date tonight!
I finally went out on my first date Wednesday night. She was visiting here for a few days from San Deigo, CA. Here is a brief background. We met at a wedding (of one of my cousins) in Los Angeles last November, and the night before the wedding at a dinner party, I was introduced to her and we struck up a pretty deep conversation for about ten minutes before she left with her friends back to her hotel. Although, I was pretty captivated with talking to her, I didn't think too much into that meeting. Someone, apparently gave her my e-mail and she found out that I had moved to Houston this summer and she e-mailed me recently saying that she was going to be in town for the week for a work-related certification; she is a physical therapist. It took me a little while to remember that she was the one I talked to in LA. We made arragements to meet at an upscale restaurant near the city's uptown section. The date turned out better than I hoped for. She seems to be very outgoing, high-spirited, and lively. She was very comfortable in our date which was certainly an encouraging sign. We seemed to have a lot of the same interests. She is very much into sports -- even more so of a sports fan than I ever cared to be (She is a Lakers and a Spurs fan....how about that?). She is also fascinated with nature and weather and outdoors (although I'm not too much of an outdoor type). And we do have some differences in some interests. She also right around my age, and that is a definite plus in my book....I believe she has me by about nine months or so. And so it went very well, and we agreed to keep in touch in the future. As far as a second date, we'll have to see when it is the next time we meet up....maybe her next time in Texas or my next time in southern California. Now the reason I'm writing about my first date is because for the last couple of years being at the age that I am, many people here on TN have been getting on to me about getting a date and so I thought I'd thought I'd update everyone. And I'll try to keep everyone updated on our next meeting, which may be a while given our long distance. I am still finding it hard to believe that many people my age and even younger are already married with children, so I have fallen way behind in that respect. I hope this turn out to be something really special.

If she's into coasters, she could be a real keeper! Don't ever let anyone intimidate you about being single at your age - it's none of their business!

You haven't fallen behind Jimmy. I think the problem is that everyone expects "you" (read: everyone) to have the typical family life: married, 2.3 kids, house and white picket fence.

Those are eaten cars. We drive the "tricked out" Chrysler Town and Country. LOL! Hey Andrew, is the .3 a dog or cat? If so, I am off the mark with kids. LOL

Nah, Jimmy- everyone else has plenty of ideas about how to run other people's lives, and their own are usually a shambles. Good for you, glad you had a good time, and take it all in your own time.

Hank, she is just another average park visitor who maybe goes to the CA parks maybe once a year. She has never had a need for a season pass. Only true to a certain extent and for certain people. Like I said, we were introduced in person at a wedding last fall. There is something about weddings where lots of couples get their start by meeting at a wedding.

the fact that you would post this is proof that the internet brings people together. Sorry it's my mind after taking sociology. I think everything is cultural and has some significance.

Hey Jimmy, I think the question everybody wants to know the answer to but everyone is afraid to ask... Did you get "any"? I'm glad to hear that it went well for you. I'm sure we'll chat soon and can go into more detail.

You're supposed to party when your young, then once you get old you need to move on to you adult life which means you should live in the suburbs, have a few kids and an expensive water bill. No thanks ;]

I'm still keeping in touch with her and we're patiently awaiting a second date, which could take a while, due to the great distance between her and me -- it's about 1,500 miles from southern Texas to southern California. Neither of us are seeing any vacation time from work, so we're going to have to rely on job-related travel or personal/sick days to see each other and only for a brief moment at that. She and I are both technology advocates (like me, she uses her mobile phone primarily as a weekly planner and travel tool). And already she has been giving me non-stop medical advice/wisdom, being that she is a physical therapist. So we do plan on seeing each other again, but only fate knows when.

Nah, I promise fate doesn't play a big part. You do. I mean, no offense, it's been 29 years, maybe you oughta, you know, NOT let this one slip through your fingers. Attack the situation. Don't be a poon about it. Seriously, you'll regret it.

| Better this late than never, right? ![]() But seriously you're right, it took me twice as long to get a first date than many other people because I never really wanted a date even during my school years so I never actively pursued one and still haven't since. I was one of those that had the "take it when handed to you" type philosophy. Also having the right friends can also help, as was our case when we were introduced by our respective social networks, which again goes back to how many people meet and are introduced at other people's weddings.
