Beer Thread

Welcome to the Beer Thread.

In this thread, we (Those of 21 years or older), discuss our favorite beers, recommend beers to other members, and discuss how many we can drink and do stupid things following consumption.

I'll start things off.

Some of my favorite beers are:
Gordon Biersch Marzen
Rolling Rock
Fat Tire
Red Stripe Jamaican Lager
Moylans Irish Red Ale (Local Brewery)
Full Sail Pale Ale

My most consumed beer is Coors Light, cause its cheap, tastes pretty good (To me), and is Light. I like Pale Beers, but occasionally I do enjoy a dark ale. I haven't had a chance to taste any East Coast Microbrew's over here on the West Coast, but I'd love to try some. Oregon has some of my favorite breweries.

So, what kind of beer do you guys like?

My husband and I enjoy the following:

Rolling Rock (if nothing better is in the house)
Yuengling
Leinenkugal's (Creamy Dark, Bug Butt Bock)
Sam Adams (Boston Lager and Oktoberfest)
Great Lakes (Edmund Fitzgerald Porter and Elliot Ness)
Guiness
Erie Brewing (presque isle pilsner)

For me, it's...

- Miller Lite
- Miller Chill
- Miller Genuine Draft
- Miller High Life
- Yuengling (any... regular, light, or black & tan)
- Guinness (draft or those cans that I can pour into a glass)
- Leinenkugel (Red, Creamy Dark, or Oktoberfest)
- Killian's (draft only)
- Labatt (Blue, Blue Light, Extra Dry, Labatt 50)
- Heineken
- Becks Dark
- Most of the German or even domestic Oktoberfest brews (except for Sam Adams)
- Several other beers I can't remember their names

If I feel cheap, I'll go Pabst (which does taste good considering its not a premium beer), or Milwaukee's Best Light (which has more flavor than Coors Light). I've also been known to drink Icehouse or Red Dog (when I can get my hands on it). Molson Ice or Molson XXX is also decent. Steel Reserve, Colt 45, or or some of the other cheap malts (in TN its limited to 6.0% ABV) are decent.

Also, I have one client where I am pretty much guaranteed to have a beer with lunch, and it's usually something like Strohs, Schlitz, or Blatz. Now, those are some old-school brews, and he picks them up when he's travelling around.

Ones I think are overrated to me...
- Any Sam Adams
- Anything from Bud
- Anything Polish or Russian/Ukranian. They taste real funny
- Fosters - Australian for crap, though I like their huge can sizes
- Coors (sorry, Kyle).

Katie, you must have (if you haven't already) Great Lakes Christmas Ale. Christmas Ale beats ALL beers hands down.

Therefore, my beer list:
Great Lakes (whichever concoction is current)
Red Hook (haven't seen it lately, but the IPA is good)
Michelob Amber Bock
Budweiser American Ale
PBR
Guinness
Yeungling (when I can get it)
Heineken, Becks and St. Pauli Girl, Dos Equis (both regular and dark)

Sorry Steven but some of the Sam Adams seasonal are pretty good.

I like Shiner Bock the most, followed closely by Yuengling. I also like Fat Tire. Of the Great Lakes beers I've had, I've liked them.

Bill said it is a really great brew, but it depends on the year how good it is. He loves Great Lakes!

He just told me that he has tried well over 375 different kinds of beers.

I think the most amusing one was last year at New Years he grabbed two singles. Criminally Bad Elf and Rudolph's Revenge Beer. Swear to god, I have the pictures.

Well I have some good news for anyone who lives in Georgia. Yuengling beer is now available. I'm so happy. Its my favorite beer, and now I don't need to go to S. Carolina to get it.

What I don't get is, Yuengling is brewed less then 25 miles from our border in Ohio and you can't find or buy it in this state. WTF?

If the USA is anything like Canada, there is probably interstate import restrictions on beer.

Anyways, some of my favourites.....

When I am travelling in the USA, I like the aforementioned Yuengling (I have it when visiting my friend in Maryland). I also like Icehouse and Sam Adams.

Here at home in Canada I drink:

Molson Canadian
Labatt Ice
Stella Artois
Alexander Keiths India Pale Ale
Creemore Springs
Sleemans
Rickard's Red
and several brews from the Mill St. Brewpub.

I'm not much of a beer drinker. here is what I do drink form time to time.

Budwiser - BE, Shock top, Select,
Samuel Adams - whatever is at the party.
Engine 5 - Local brew(Milford, NH)
Martha's Exchange - local brew (Nashua, NH)

I normally only drink beer after I do the tour of the local Budweiser brewery in Merrimack NH.

You should write a letter to the nearest distributor in the state and ask them to carry it, or start pestering those who sell beer.

My husband said it was illegal for them to sell Yuengling in Ohio.

Whoa, this blows.

Really... why's that? There was no reason like that here in Tennessee, which being a Bible Belt state and rather conservative when it comes to alcohol laws, they introduced Yuengling here in October of last year.

After checking the law itself in Ohio, I can't see why it'd be illegal in Ohio... it has a 12% ABV limit, and Ohio isn't a control state on beer (neither is Tennessee for that matter).

Side note: There's a picture of Obama sipping a Yuengling here...

Its not illigal. Direct from the website:

Why can't I find Yuengling nationwide?
The Yuengling Brewery is a regional brewer that has manufacturing plants in Pottsville, PA and Tampa, FL. Currently we distribute our products over a ten state area along the eastern seaboard. While there is significant interest for our products nationwide, unfortunately we do not have the manufacturing capabilities to service customers across the United States. As a result, our focus and efforts continues to be on our loyal customers and markets that are logistically feasible to our production facilities.

This is how it became available in Georgia:

I rarely drink because I find it disgusting and makes people act stupid. But on the very rare occasion that I do drink beer I'd prefer a nice Yuengling definitely.

Wow...I can't believe that no one has mentioned Blue Moon Ale. Outstanding brew.

Otherwise, Sam Adams and Corona for me!

And..I just realized....it's too bad we will never be able to taste Pawtucket Patriot Ale.

Yuengling could find other closed breweries (that are still standing) and resurrect them, like they did in Florida (the old Stroh's brewery there). At the same time, they should be careful and continue to grow slowly as they have.

Oh, I agree! But, it would be sooo nice to go to the store and pick up a nice case of Yuengling when I want some, LOL!
