The difference between talking on the phone and talking to a passenger is really basic, but crucial. Setting.

A passenger is next to you, paying attention to what is going on around you, what you and the cars around you are doing. A person on the other end of a cell phone is not at all associated with you or what you are doing. They are in an entirely different location. A passenger can talk to you AND assists you (for example talking when you aren't distracted or saying what someone else is doing) someone talking to you on a phone has no ida what you are doing or what is happening around you, therefore, it is a dangerous situation.

I've only been involved in one car accident. The reason the other driver hit my mom's car: Changing the radio. We were sitting at a red light and he had no idea. I've actually been in two, but I don't count it when my fender doesn't get bent, LOL. That one had to do with his stupidity and impatience anyway.

For me, talking on Bluetooth is no problem, but I'm still rushing you off the phone since the car is my music time. Changing CDs is the most dangerous thing I do in my car. I gotta buy one of those visor holsters

I was assuming that any disaster that knocks out power to all cell phone towers will also knock out power to the phone line.

I hate messages that start with just "hey" or continue on with "k" on the mobile and IM.

^Now that's sick!

I do both, but I have to cut down on my texting since my plan only allows so many a month for free. I have problems talking on my cell while driving (even hands free) let alone trying to text and drive. I don't see how other people try and it irritates me when I see people have no respect for anyone else. How many cell-phone related accidents do you hear about everyday?

If I absolutely need to talk to someone while driving I will with extreme caution (hands free if I can) but I refuse to text. If someone texts me I will wait till I am stopped to text them back.

I agree it doesn't really make sense to text when you can call but on the other hand a text is quicker than a voicemail.
What really pisses me off is when people use their cell phones in movie theatres. If it's an emergency then I can understand, just take it outside. Otherwise leave it on vibrate. As far texting in a theatre if it doesn't bother me I have no problem. Still, what on earth can't wait till after the movie?

Another annoyance is seeing people use them on rollercoasters, especially on the lift hill! It's like what is SO important that you can't wait a few minutes?

But that would force people to interact with each other, and as we know talking is so last year.

Why am I even typing?

I should be able to thought-type now.

Scary part is they do have computers that respond to mental requests now.

That reminds me of Back ot the future II where they kids are "Ew! You have to use your hands to play that game!?!"

Texting is an addiction now???

Time to report to the FTMA -- Frequent Text Messagers Anonymous.

"Hello, my name is [enter the girl's name here], and I have a texting addiction problem."

Anyone see where the National Safety Council wants a nation-wide ban on cell phone use while driving?

Legislature to Discuss Cell Phone Ban While Driving - Des Moines- msnbc.com
State Cell Phone Driving Laws
Poll: What have you done while texting? - Behavior- msnbc.com
Oblivious texters hurt as they walk, even skate - Behavior- msnbc.com

What I laugh at and think, "How in the world is this possible?" is with some of the incidents involving texting.
Quote:
including a 15-year-old girl who fell off her horse while texting, suffering head and back injuries, and a 13-year-old girl who suffered belly, leg and arm burns after texting her boyfriend while cooking noodles. Other reports include a 39-year-old man who suffered a head injury after crashing his bicycle into a tree while texting and a 16-year-old boy who suffered a concussion because he was texting while walking and banged into a telephone pole.
And just to top things off, http://www.cellular-news.com/car_bans/ some of the penalties in those countries seem harsh, don't they?

So absurd. Both stories.

If I was the girl's father, I would have had DYFS called on me at the party. TALK!
...ok...I lie. Texting the person sitting next to you is handy when you can't say what you want to say because it shouldn't be overheard. Sometimes it's not polite for everyone to know that you think that someone who just entered looks like a slutty lumberjack. But it definitely cannot be primary communication.
