Products and services for the overweight!

I am not sure where to post this so I am just doing it here. I want to know as people that are overweight or have been overweight do you think it would be good to have a resource on the internet that has information on what products and experiences would be good for overweight people to do or use?

Lets say you wanted to go to Six Flags with your kids. You know you are a larger person and before you go stand in line for the ride you would like to know will you fit in the ride. If there was a resource that had all that info on it would that be valuable to you if you were over weight?

If you wanted to go out and buy a pair of shoes. Would it be valuable to have some one that could say hey I have tested these shoes and I am x number of lbs and they work great?

Would that info be something that you would look for before making a purchase or going out for an activity? I am just wanting feedback on the idea and I want to know if anyone has ever seen a site like that before. Thanks for any thoughts on the matter.

No. I would never use a site like that. I am a plus size, FYI.

Were I overweight, I would.
Though at 105lbs I don't think that'll work so well.

Yes, at 105 you need not worry about it. I am trying to just get feedback on the idea. I think it has promise but I would like to know the thoughts of the larger or were larger people on this site...... Where are you WES?

I can see it being useful in some areas - such as the idea about whether you could ride certain rides or not. Shoes aren't really an overweight issue, but clothes can be. Especially if you are really tall, or have a small chest, or short legs, etc. I have problems finding 'plus size' shirts that are long enough because for some reason people think that if you wear a size 18 you have no chest (I have a lot of chest) and it makes shirts too short on me. I've also got a friend who is significantly larger than me and had a really hard time finding maternity clothes. Another friend had a really hard time finding scuba diving gear because her legs are so much thicker than most people's and neoprene boots and wetsuits were all too tight on her.

So yeah, I'd say I could see it being used (I'm overweight, though I'm not considered "obese" anymore since I've lost 30 lbs and dropped out of that category) especially for some specialized stuff, like the above mentioned items. Roller coasters, scuba diving, maternity clothes, all are things that overweight people want to be able to enjoy but may not know where to look.

In response to your original question, no I really don't think I could see a lot of people using a site like that , but then again google it and you'll probably find something out there already.

And as far as your example, most large chains/parks have test seats for their bigger rides so I don't think you would even need to worry about not fitting if you used the test seat.

When I was 270+ I always used the test seats and found them pretty accurate.

I'm still not thin, but I think it would be almost depressing for me to go to a site that is all about surviving in the world, just because I'm overweight.

There are already products and stores that cater just to the obese, the big and tall stores as an example. And your local buffet for the eating portion.
