| Help a Brother Out
So I'm a noob at park building. I can make coasters very very well, and I am good at shaping the land and theming, but I do not know how to make my own theming. A lot of people use different types of scenery not found in the game. So if somebody can tell me how to make my own rct2 objects that would be great. Also, do people make different types of coasters? I know that they can be loaded into the game, but I'd like to know if there is a place where I can download new types of rides. And none of the Wacky Worlds or Time Twisters rides, I don't like those. I just want to know if somebody made a rocket coaster type, or an impulse coaster that can make turns and inversions, etc. Also, when making the scenario and picking out the rides, is there a way to enable more rides? Anything that a trainer can do? All help is greatly appreciated. Last edited by Jerry S; 03-28-2006 at 07:23 PM. |

I've always wondered if you could add more rides too. I dont know if Trainers can do it though.. I think its a matter of how much info the game can run or whatever.

poor TN members, not yet enlightened to custom rides/scenery. basically, any .DAT file you put in the ObjData folder for rollercoaster tycoon 2 will do. in my bristlecone upload i've included the entire contents of my objdata folder, custom scenery and all. I've compiled a pretty large database from all kinds of places, mostly NE. I've even tried my hand at creating a few objects, and i would give you alink for the object editor if i knew where it was or was sure it was even available anymore.

here: this should get you off to a good start on using the full potential of RCT2's engine and your parkmaking abilities. http://www.amazingearl.com/rct2/

I want to just download new types of coasters and rides, I don't have time to make my own, nor do I know how or have the patience to learn. EDIT: Thakns for the link, it does have some stuff, but I want to have for example a rocket coaster and a Intamin launched invert that can make turns and inversions like Volcano. Those two are what I want. This guy made "themed" rides, for special areas, I just want general rides. Last edited by Jerry S; 03-30-2006 at 06:13 PM. |

Ah, my bad, I didn't catch that. I could give you lots of help with RCT3 but I don't know much about RCT2.

Anywhere where someone made a rocket coaster? That's what I want most. I can make my own with a trainer, but it always messes up because Intamin Giga coasters don't have vertical track. If I could edit that, then it'd be good.

There are no downloads for new coaster types. you have to use the kinds already there to make what you want using track merges, zero-clearance, etc. You can certainly make a rocket coaster- you just may not be able to make one on Intamin-style track. actually, i think one of the H2H maps at NE did, but the train didn't actually run on that track. its kind of complicated. my attempt at explaining it: basically, they built a rocket coaster using the standard beemer "Twister Coaster" track, as it can do vertical track. then, using the "invisible track" trick, they made the rocket coaster's hill invisible. Now the train follows the same path as before, the track just doesn't appear. then, taking advantage of the fact that the Impulse coaster track is the same as the Giga coaster track, they used zero-clearance to build Impulse track sections so it appeared the rocket coaster train ran on them. well, it's not a bad explanation if you know how to use 8cars and such well, but i'll assume most of you don't. I shall create a screenshot-tutorial thusly. oh. very important if you don't want error trappers: invisible track is done by using a trainer such as 8cars to change the tracktype on a ride to "haunted house" or, for drop rides, any sort of stall. i think. INVISIBLE TRACK DOES NOT WORK FOR DIAGONAL TRACk/ TURNS OR VERTICAL TRACK PEICES . not sure if this includes loops. also important: any train that normally does a loop or uses vertical track can be used to do a loop or vertical drop on any other track that does a loop/vertical drop. yeah, that didn't make much sense either. basically, if you use a trainer to change train types on a coaster that loops, make sure the train type you're using can also do a loop. i.e.: don't put spiral coaster trains on a Schwartzkopf. It won't end well.

^I tried the giga coaster and invisible track stuff but it's so glitchy. I can try it again though. I know 8 cars, I learned it pretty quick. The one thing that messes up is the station, you can't go over that.

I know, I'm a perfectionist, so I had to try, and then got an error.

i'l put up my screens of a working rocket coaster later- i'd gotten it up and running, but the train rolled back.. track merges don't wrok backwards. *grimace* not nearly as fun as the real-life ones. espescially due to error trapper-ness.

^I got it to work now too. You start with a hyper Twister, make the track. For a launch, either do it out of the station, or what I like, let it roll into block brakes, and then hit a chain. Use 8 cars to make the chain very fast. Then, change the train type. After that, make the track invisible, and then go over whatever you can with Giga Track. The rest you can do with Impulse track.

Theming a coaster takes a lot of patience I think. Its really tempting to just build it, toss some half-ass effort on top of it and call it a coaster. Here's how I see coaster building in RCT: 1. Showcase It: Plan ahead and make it a HUGE and BIG thing for your park, as it always is for any high class park. Now we all know you could throw it on top of a parking lot, give it some mediocre name like Six Flags does, but show some effort. If space isn't a problem, add some landscaping into it. Its best to landscape before building your coaster. Add some water, lakes, rivers, in fact you should do that to your park in the first place. This will add excitement and thrills to your ride. Not only that, but make it asthetically pleasing. 2. Pick Something and Stick With It: Pick a theme and stick with it. Its easier said than done as you browse through the theming selections, but you gotta keep it basic. RCT has a lot of basic themes, but a high number of items you can use. Use this to your advantage and keep it basic, yet interesting. 3. Make It Realistic: Something I keep in mind is long que line, short exits, just like in the real world. Making que's is actually fun to me (Okay, I'm wierd). Mix it up a bit, drag the line through the coaster to keep guests interested, and then throw in boring zig zags in between. Fill the line with trees, items and theming to keep them interested. While it may not show in the actual game that they are interested, it just adds a lot to the realism of your theme. 4. The Little Things Count: Add smaller items and bushes to make it more pleasing to the eye. Its really annoying to add small bushes here and there or other items, but it really does make a difference. Take the time to do it right, and make it look nice. I'm not sure HOW I was able to actually type this out seeing as I haven't played RCT in about a year, but hopefully I helped.

Well, I made a park in Scenario editor, with mountains, a river, and island, a waterfall, etc. Then I themed different sections. The sections are kindof blocky and have blank spaces between them, but each section has a different theme. It's obviously not some awesomely themed park, but then again, some things you see on RCT2 are a bit too themed to be realistic. Most coaster only have a few little things and it helps the ride alot. After that, I began to build coasters. So far I built three, one on and around the island, one "in" a volcano, and another that begins in a desert. I also put some flats around the rides, as well as food and souvenir shops etc. etc.

Well, my park is going good, obviously not pro, using mostly rct objects, but some objects from the safari pack, which I think was later used in Wacky Worlds. Anyway, Almost all rides are built and placed. I also made a miniature drive thru safari, which will also have a ride from in the park that will take guests through the little safari. It's more of a zoo then a safari though........ I also made a ski resort: It has a chairlift that you take to the top, from there you choose a path: Blue Run (stand up), Bobsled (Bobsled), Double Black Diamond (Stand up twister). Those rides then go mostly down the mountain twisting and turning, and you get off the ride at the bottom. Like snowboarding, but safer. I have a ton of coasters in the park. It's more of a Six Flags, because the theming makes the park look nice, but it isnt overwhelming. Most RCT2 parks have theming that competes with Busch, Universal, and Disney, some even better. Also, Kyle, I knew most of the things you told me, but thank you for the help. What I needed is too late now, but it's okay, my park is nearing completion. How does one do "Invisible Track/" I've never been able to find it in 8 Cars or SoB.

In 8 cars, it would be the zero clearance, but that messes up alot. On SoB, I'm guessing it has a similar title.
