Best School Project EVER!!

Ok so in my Comm App (speach) class, we have to learn to do interviews and run a "buisness", so my teacher decided to morph the state standards so we could play RCT3 for the next month, so from now until after we get back from break we are doing nothing but RCT3. In my class nobody has even heard of the game, so I am basically sitting on the comp showing everybody what to do, while everybody else is preparing for our TWO HOUR presentation on the game. Its one of the few classes I look forward to now (oh and yes I am a junior in high school)

A junior in high school doing a 2-hour presentation on a game aimed at kids? To learn about run businesses?

Jeez, lucky you. I wish one of my classes was as easy as that.

Back in 9th grade, we were supposed to make a theme park based on the Odyssey. I convinced my teacher to let me do it on RCT2. We have school provided laptops, so I got to take my laptop to the tech guy and he put the program on there for me. I was supposed to take it back to him to have him uninstall it after the project was done... never did. So I had RCT2 on my laptop for the rest of the year. Ah, good times.

That is AWESOME! I wish I could have a project where I got to play NoLimits or RCT or some other video game.

For Physics we have a "fantasy project" due every week. It's basically we can either write or draw up a plan for an idea of ours that would be physically impossible, then we have to explain why it is impossible.

So I of coures made an SM coaster and showed it to the class. It pulled 9 Gs.

We have to create powerpoint presentations every week over sections of the periodic table, in addition to creating handouts for all the students. Man RCT3 at school, lucky!

At EHS, seniors had the option of doing a may-term project. Basically they get 3 weeks off from school to do stuff and make a presentation. I went on a road trip to VF, SFGAM, KI, and CP to make a documentary about rollercoasters of the midwest. The best part is that I only spent about an hour or two filming at each park, so I got to ride for the rest of the day.

I got permission from the person who made nolimits to use mantis and MF, BTW.

In my business class junior year we had to put together a business that provided services/goods to the school. At the end we got to split the profits so I walked away with about 50 dollars. I'd say that beats playing a game...

By far my favorite project was in AP US History senior year of highschool when we had to design a theme park based on the manifest destiny. We only had around 2 weeks to do it and I didn't procrastinate at all, but still ended up finishing it in class the day it was due. I drew everything except for the rock texture and a few other small details, which were done by one of my partners.

Here's the nearly completed poster, just missing 2 hotels with some rides in/around them, and some other little details here and there:

Enjoy and let me know what you think if you get a chance

I've done some theme park/coaster related school assignments...

In middle school I made a static wood coaster model for an IB middle years project thing. In high school I wrote my entire IB 25 page paper on Cedar Point and the historical impact they've had on the amusement industry. Lots of research went into that one on the financial side of things. In a comp grpahics class I did a piece about an issue that concerns me, and did it on legislation in the amusement industry. This was back when Sen. Markey was getting a lot of attention in the matter...

I like that you incorporated a Topple Tower and Giant Frisbee into your design, the rest of it is very cool, too. This is very impressive

Haha thanks. Truthfully not sure why I went with an S&S Thrust Air, should've definately gone Intamin rocket there lol.

The mine train is Intamin, I noted manufacturers and ride characteristics on a separate sheet, which of course I didn't include here. I did this poster before Maverick was announced, back in 2005, so it was just supposed to be a regular Intamin, but with the mine train style.

But wow, dcs, that is an incredible poster! I couldn't draw that well to save my life!
I wish I had some coaster-related school assignments I could list here. The only one that's even close is my inquiry project I'm finishing up now. I dropped a few worms down an 8 foot tall KNex coaster tower that pulled 25 g's at the bottom. That's about it for my coaster experience as it pertains to school...

Thanks a lot guys : )

Time constraints meant some things weren't as good as I wanted, but I'm happy with how it came out. Glad you all liked it.

You are so LUCKY! I wish one of my teachers let us do that. I'd do it on RCT2 though. I have done a couple of assignment based on roller coasters, but nothing like this.

I agree. I would love to do something like that.

I had a school project that involved coasters but this was back when i was around 13-14 and at that time i was scared of coasters. Needless to say i didn't get an A but i did get a C for just doing research and haveing photos.
