how are we supposed to know if other people posted leeched pictures? if we see a picture posted, and think its leeched but it was really taken by the poster, what should we do?

right click the image. goto Properties. If its leeched, its will be coming from another server. If its not, it should have thrillnetwork in the address.

Also, most images that are copyrighted contain a copyright notation that is visible when the image is displayed. If it has one, do not post it or link to it.

As I noted in the announcement, the only time you can have an image linked or an image posted that contains a copyright is if we receive permission from the copyright holder or the bandwidth provider (not from the person posting the image, unless that person can prove that he/she owns the bandwidth or copyright to begin with).

Every forum allows this! Why can't you guys? I'm sure the original sites don't care as long as we don't claim that its our own picture. If the poster did, then its another story, but they didn't. Are you going to start reporting everytime someone posts a pic from RCDB like we've been doing all along?
You guys are turning a great, fun forum into a dictatorship.

Raptor -

It's called stealing or eating the bandwith off the site that hosts the image. Credit or no, credit it's just like that. But, with permission, you can still post someone else's image except it has to be from your own personal thingamajgir

My complaint is that TN seems to be the only board that is actually worrying about this sort of thing..

Actually, most boards enforce this in the ToS. The only ones that don't are like DNET, which have mods that deserted the site, and is now just a bunch of you know

We aren't enforcing this as a part of our Terms of Service (at least yet)... we are more or less on an education of sorts. Yeah, everyone seems to do it, but it is illegal, and copyrights are really a serious issue on the Internet (think of MP3s).

So from now on ALL images have to be attached, which means that we can't have people host our pics or put them on a website of our own and have them here? What is the exact rule on this?

edh101985, I got rid of that since it had nothing to do with anything. It was also a little inappropriate so I removed it. Thanks. (I really like this new "quick reply" feature. )

I'm pretty sure this is a leeched picture since it says copyright right at the bottom of it. http://www.coasterforum.com/boards/s...threadid=21332

Those are from roomraider, the thread starter's, site, so I guess it's his decision.

They are? profile homepage and pictures pages differ. Not calling anyone a liar, but I think we need some clearer things then.

Those images came from this site, Frighttime, which roomraider has been putting together for a long time. It's the best site on the Internet for foreign coasters. The reason why his homepage doesn't match up with it is because the site has switched servers many times, for whatever reasons I don't know. I guess he just hasn't updated it yet.

People from other sites have been complaining about the use of leeched images in the CP 2003 thread, particularly, on this page:

Since no mod has replied in this thread, I'll do it.

That thread was taken care of a while back, Raptor. Thanks. As for Roomraider, since it's his site, I guess we can let him link his images here.

I went back and edited your post and replaced it with URLs, which should be what you do in the first place.
