Deleting threads

Just a question, nothing more, about deleting threads. Why is it some threads are locked with a closing comment telling why from a mod/admin, while others are just deleted without any notification?

I'm genuinely wondering where the line is for that, not complaining, just curious?

That and I'd also ask if there is a thread that's not some blatent advertising or other random first post bannable offense that the person who started the thread be notified why the thread has disappeared. If for no other reason than educating them on what they can and cannot discuss.

Thank you for your time.

I too have witnessed some threads all of the sudden disapear and it wasn't the thread starter who deleted them. Why would a mod deleted them. If so, why without warning or reason.

I can think of a couple examples of why a thread would be deleted instead of just being closed. I had a thread about nice tits which was really just about birds. It was an attempt at humor but it was considered offensive and thus it was deleted. I didn't think it was that offensive but that's the way it goes.

Another example is a thread that was started about me by Skye. It was when I started the whole "12-26-04" thing. I had all those threads and some people were wondering what was up. Skye started a thread asking why and if people thought I was crazy. He had a poll and everything. I had no problem with it and even voted that I was crazy. However someone seen it and thought it might lead to flaming or was a flame in it of itself and deleted it. I actually hoped it hadn't been, I would've like to have known how many people thought I was crazy.

Those would be two examples why a thread may be deleted instead of closed since they didt want anyone to se it since it may have been against the rules/TOS.

There are times when keeping a thread up but closed is needed. If its something that has been answered before and there is a link to that discussion those are when it stays in the forum but closed.

There are times when we feel that a thread just either doesn't serve any purpose or is against the TOS that it will be outright deleted. It is up to each individual mod/admin to make that call. There are no set rules regarding closing vs. deleting but it comes down to the judgement of the mod/admin involved.

I would also most likely assume that this is due to your SN thread being removed.
That discussion is better suited now between e-mails between someone like you and GP, who has been "interested" in taking over. That is not discussion for here.

Also to let everyone know what happened to SN you don't have to post it here. You can close down the SN forums and leave up a message saying exactly what happened.

I can see how you would need to delete a thread because it is a potential flame war, or they are very inapropriate, but deleting them just because you think they don't have any real purpose is where it gets me. Mo matter what the topic is about. Where it's orange juice or a snow day.
