Why close SO many threads??

I personally think that this whole, STOP THE DUPLICATES, campaign is getting a little sad and tired. I mean, if a post is like 10 years old why can't we start a new one?? It gets VERY annoying trying to navigate through all the pages of a huge thread. Why don't you just delete the OLD one and keep the new one if you hate duplicates so much. I don't mean to get angry but why is this the only board I have ever been to that is so crazy when it comes to closing threads for no good reason and forcing people to go out of their way to ask a question or get their point across?? I go to tons of boards and none of them even come close to doing what you guys do. I really love visiting here but I think the moderators time could be better spent doing something else. Sorry if I sounded rude cuz I didn't mean to.

If a post was made a long time ago (a couple of months or so) we don't lock up a new thread that starts up most of the time.

But we have had a flood of people recently that have been starting up threads that are already currently active and may be a page or two down. I locked up a couple where the exact same thread was on the front page only about 5 or lines down when they started it. Very irritating, and very confusing (which one do you reply to when they are simultaneous and about the same thing).

and why have to repeat yourself? Don't you feel kinda stupid saying the same thing over and over and over and over and over?

I know we do!

Thanks

Thanks for the response! I wouldn't mind if you close threads that are currently active. But sometimes they are many many many pages back with like 10 pages of posts. Wouldn't it be easier to just start a new one instead of navigating through all of it? Just a thought. Thanks again for the quick response. :-)

no problem. That's part of what we're hear for.

Sometimes a thread 10 pages back or so is only a day or two old, so it's not really out of date.

At least for me, it comes down to if I see a post on the older thread made within the last few days, or if it was a thread that saw a lot of activity and that strikes me as "hey, we've already talked about that". Not an exact science, but I hope that gets the idea accross.

As another example, at one point we had several different threads going on about whether or not Superman the Escape was a coaster or not. One of them in particular had a fastastic explanation and conversation. Because it was so well done, I refer all new threads back to it still because it pretty much covers everything that could be coverded on the subject and saves a lot of repeat posting and reading.
