Inappropriate ads

About this thread (Updated 6/16/06):

Sometimes our ad rotation gets a little funky and we end up getting ads that may not be appropriate for the younger members on our forums. We try to remain family-friendly on this site.

If there is an inappropriate ad, please save the image to your computer and upload it here. If it's a flash file or a text ad, get a screenshot of it. Please try to include the URL of the image and where it goes, too.

If the ad is simply annoying, please do not post it. We will not remove annoying ads unless it affects the way the site loads.

Examples of inappropriate ads...

- Those that serve pop-ups/pop-unders
- Anything for smoking/drinking alcohol
- Those that ask you to install something (Gator Corporation, any toolbar, etc.)
- Anything suggesting sex, selling products for sex (Viagra, enahncement aids, etc.)
- Dating sites with adult themes (Adult Friend Finder, Passion.com, etc.)
- Sites promoting street/auto racing as well as motocycles/choppers, that have verifiable adult (18+) content such as nudity, and their TOS/Privacy policy explicity mentions 18+ visitors only.

Examples of possible annoying ads, but not quite inappropriate for removal (and we will not remove them unless they are interfering with using our site)

- General dating sites (Match, yahoo, Cupid, eHarmony, True, along those lines)
- Flash "games" or movies -- talking, noisemaking, or otherwise
- ads in other languages (unless you're able to prove via translation that it is inappropriate)
- Sites with content similar to movies such as XXX, Fast and the Furious, or other PG-13 movies, where their TOS/Privacy Policy may include age 13+ visitors, yet may have women/girls covered in their bikini areas only.

The ad at the top of my attachment, goes to here.
http://www.genitalherpes.com/info/ab...reative=100652

Not totally shure if it inappropriate, but I thought you might want to look.

I caught the end of the ad. That girl was talking about herpes.

EDIT: Found another one.

None of them are bad. Genital Herpes doesn't talk about sex specifically, and True is a general dating site.

I just got a pop-up add while surfing around TN.

Are these going to be the norm now? I really don't like pop ups, especially when I'm at work.

We need to know the source of the popup, including all other ads that show on the page at the same time so that we can nail together the sources. Just saying "I just got a popup ad" doesn't help since popups can be caused by anything (including spyware). If I unwittingly install spyware on the system, yeah I'll get popups on TN.

So, until you can confirm that it is indeed from us, I would run a spyware/adware check with up-to-date antispyware software.

So you know, I do have a popup blocker, and I do exempt TN for this reason.

Ok, if I see it again I'll get the source info.

There is a banner ad that says shoot the paparazzi and it makes this annoying picture taking sound. It also has adware for when I scan for adware the site is the origin of it.

Here's a SS of the ad he's talking about. I think the idea of shooting a guy is bad enough, but the sound is truely annoying since you can't even turn it off.

It goes to:

^That's nice.

It has nothing to do with inappropriate ads though.

There was an add I just saw with a Marijuana leaf, with in big letters saying "MARIJUANA" (should it be legalized?). Sorry I have no picture, but my parents saw it and said that they dont want me on a site with any drug related things on it. I tried to explain to them it was just an add... well you know parents. If I see it again I will save it ok. thankyou.

Sorry about the delay... we had to work on locating the ad, and then we managed to find it and remove it. It should be totally gone within 24 hours.

It's not a banner ad, but instead a thread advertising an online casino. We should definately ban this guy. Does TN have any kind of anti-bot password confirmation (you know, the swirly letters/numbers)?

Thread is in General Talk, author is 222.

What is up with all these live links being put in stories and they have nothing to do with the story?

http://www.thrillnetwork.com/stories_view.php/1140

Look at the livelinks and you'll see they are ads for something other than the story itself. It's kind of annoying.

Please only report them if they are inappropriate by our definitions (see post #1). Also, we have just implemented them, so give it time and like google ads, the keywords will start becoming more relevant as they become more used.

An ad that makes you think . . . about genital herpes.

The link to where it goes is shown in the bottom of the picture.

I don't know if this is just me getting this or not, but lately (past 2-3 days) random pages have prompted me to download a program. I don't know if it's tied to a specific ad or if it's something on my end, but thought I'd make you aware. With as much surfing as I do, this only happens at this site so I figured it warrented me posting. I've attached a screenshot to the download screen, showing the page that I am on at the time.

Bottom ad (and link - click if necessary)
That popup that you received (do not install that).

Thumbs up

The chick on this ad is amazingly hot.

I've decided that I'm in love with her; I want to have her baby, and that every ad on TN should be replaced by this one.

Since that ad was posted above (mate1)... I really would prefer that those were not shown.

At work they are ok with us looking at the net on breaks, etc but if my boss walked up and that ad was on my screen she would probably think I was looking at porn or whatever.

Could those be blocked?

I had one that popped up today for Mate1 dating service that was wildly inappropriate for the site. Enough so that my work's filters immediately caught up to it and chopped it off. Which is why I don't have a link or anything for it. I know it was Mate1 and had a woman covered up with bascially nothing but her hands. Sorry I couldn't get more for you than that.

I just realized that Diesel up above has a post to the same service with a different ad. Seems that this company hasn't been pulled out of the rotation yet, and their ads have gotten much worse.

I still need all the required info, and not just simply you guys reporting it (I may not see the same ads you do).
