Server Upgrades

To facilitate the ability to bring you better features on this site in the future, we did an upgrade to PHP5/MySQL 5 on Sunday, 4/6/08. In addition, support for the previous PHP4 platform is on the decline, with certain applications beginning to require PHP5 from the start.

For the most part, it went smoothly, but because of the magnitude of the upgrade, some areas of this site may not work properly.

We are aware of certain DB photos and the DB mainpage not working properly. Also, some areas may have slashes before quotes or apostrophes. We are working to resolve those.

If you find anything else, please be specific with the error so we can duplicate it and attempt to resolve it.

The changes will start coming over the next several months, and will be announced as they roll out. Real websites take time to build, especially when you have an extensive one like this (there are hundreds of thousands, if not millions, of lines of code running this site). Plus, many of us have things outside of this site that take precedence.

One of the biggest changes you will see will be within the forums... with a total revamp of our social networking features. We're also looking at apps to allow sharing of the content (including personal photos and your park/ride count) with Facebook and MySpace (Yes, I'm aware at least one or two other sites offer such features, but we do have the backing of an extensive database in comparison). Unfortunately, PHP4 was the biggest hinderance in the
process.

In the meantime, we seemed to have fixed most of the issues. However, if you continue to find any, please post them here. This thread is not for commenting on or asking about future features, but to resolve bugs as a result of the PHP/MySQL upgrade.

Within the next 2-3 weeks, you will see changes in vBulletin (our forum software), with better social networking features.

Right now, we have a customized set of features that unfortunately are quite limited. The new version of vBulletin will allow for further extensions in regards of those features.

Unfortunately, some things may not carry over, such as profile comments and photos. We are working on finding a way to import the photos over (which use a separate product), but you will not see comments carry over.
