I said Super Size Me was a great documentary... not Bowling. Thanks for coming out though, Edh. The reason I mentioned it is becuase Spurlock has been compared to Moore quite a bit since Super Size Me debuted.

In an attempt to get this back on topic, I watched Moulin Rouge for the first time tonight. After the first 30 minutes I thought it was really stupid, but then it got a lot better and redeemed itself for the rest of the film. Ewan owned like he always does, and Nicole Kidman was scorching. For the most part, the music numbers were really well done as well as the crazy cinematography.
***1/2 out of *****

EDIT: forgot to look at the page before.. good catch Rob. Replace 'documentary' with 'film' and the statement is fixed.

^^ That's the way it was with that directors other film I liked "Romeo and Juliet". The first 30 minutes were a visual/audio onslaught, but after that it got pretty good.

I've seen two movies as of late:

-Life Is Beautiful
I really liked it. A friend lent it to me. The movie was very clever and funny in the first part. The second part (when they end up in the camp) was really intresting. It got me thinking "What's the father going to do next?" I wouldn't buy it, but maybe rent it again, very fun and entertaing movie. Life really is beautiful. 4/5

-City Of God
I saw this one in theaters a year or two ago and fell in love with it. The DVD came out on Tuesday and I was right there to buy it. It is the best movie I have ever seen. The direction, story, acting, sound, music and cinematography are all incredible. The movie is very violent (rated 18A here, or R in America), but don't let that turn you off. This is a must see. 5/5

I just watched Darkness the other day (no, not Darkness Falls) and it was freakin scary! It was almost as bad as the The Exorcist or The Texas Chainsaw Massacre! I don't think you can rent it or buy it in the USA though, it's a spanish movie but everyone in it speaks English. Anyway, my brother burned it off of the computer and we watched it.

Here's a link to the trailer:http://movies.fantasticfactory.com/d...rkness_eng.mov

I watched Joy Ride a few nights ago. For those who haven't seen Joy Ride, it's a movie about 2 guys who drive cross-country to pick up one of their high school girlfriends. During their trip, they prank a trucker via ** radio. One of the guys pretends to be a girl and has the trucker meet up at some hotel, where yet another prank is played on some other unsuspecting guy. The trucker learns he was tricked and murder occurs. The trucker then stalks the guys (and eventually the girl too) and remains one step ahead of them at all times.

Overall, I really liked this movie. The girl could have been prettier, but you can't have everything, lol.

I agree. That was a great movie. I saw it in the theatres and it was so hard to keep up with the subtitles, so I bought the DVD and switched on the english. lol

Too bad he followed it up with Pinnochio.

Just watched The Tailor of Panama, without a DVD filter I might add lol

This was a slow moving, slow building very good spy thriller.

Pierce Brosnon plays the complete opposite of James Bond, but he's a spy none the less.

Solid performances by the whole cast, including Pierce, Geoffrey Rush, Jamie Lee Curtis and a very young Daniel Radcliffe (Harry Potter, in the Harry Potter movies)

Overall, if you're not expecting a James Bond, fast pased spy movie, you'll enjoy this one.

I'd give it 3.5 out of 5 stars. It's good, but I wouldn't buy it.

It's R rated, mostly for the F word, and a good bit of sexual content.

I somehow missed Mystic River during it's theatrical run, but I fixed that by renting it tonight. It was pretty good. Maybe a bit overrated but I won't complain. The performances, as expected, were phenominal and the story was involving. there were some minor dry areas and the final few scenes were unecessary, but other than that i enjoyed it.

Went to a sneak peak of Riddick wed night and it was not a good movie. I guess movies like this just aren't my thing.

Last one I saw in the movie theater: Shrek 2

After hearing mixed reviews I actually enjoyed it. It had a lot more adult oriented situations than the first which helped a lot IMO. My only complaint was that there were too many kids in there that had seen it several times. I felt like strangling half the brats because they would quote the movie -right before- the characters in the movie said them. It caused for a very aggrivating time. It's a good thing murder isn't legal...but can't we at least use duct tape on their mouths to shut their traps, and nail guns to keep their butts in their seats???

Last movie I rented: Once upon a Time in Mexico

Great action flick but poorly written. It's telling one story from several perspectives (Banderas p.o.v., Depp's p.o.v., the cop's p.o.v., the "bad guys p.o.v., etc.) It's main staring role was Antonio Banderas but he wasn't the central story (Depp was), and people wonder why all the acclaim for the film went to Johnny Depp? Basically, I can't figure out why Depp's name wasn't listed as the main star...Banderas was nothing more than a hit man, and even Selma Hayek's name appears above Depp's...and she's -barely- in the movie! But if you aren't too concerned about the conflicting p.o.v.'s (point of view), the movie is enjoyable. Just don't get lost when the story changes to someone else's story...

Last movie I bought: LOTR: return of the king

I don't think I need to review this one...if ya didn't like it, sorry you feel that way.

I just saw Shrek 2 as well, and thought it was extremely funny, just a few too many pop culture references.

I also just bought North by Northwest and Chinatown. Two classics. I've seen them before but have yet to watch them on DVD.

Shrek 2 was great. I think it was better then the first one. I would give it a 5/5. Also I just saw Rat Race for the first time. I thought it was very funny. Great movie I would give that one a 5/5 as well.

That was my experience when I saw Harry Potter and the Sorcerers Stone the first time

There was this kid behind me that kept saying, Oh! Here's where they run into the 3 head dog. or, wow here comes when Harry sicks the snake on his cousin.

I finally turned around and looked at her and her father told her to shut up.

I hadn't read the book yet, and I was like "Shut up!!!!"

I'm glad AMC comes in on opening weekends and tells people to keep quiet and to turn off their cell phones.

I was in another movie and this guy answers his cell phone and proceeds to carry on a conversation in Japanese or some Asian language. I wanted to throw the phone across the room lol

***********************************

Here's Fridays totals according to boxofficemojo.com

1 HARRY POTTER AND THE PRISONER OF AZKABAN $11,210,000
2 THE CHRONICLES OF RIDDICK $10,600,000
3 GARFIELD: THE MOVIE $8,000,000
4 THE STEPFORD WIVES $7,900,000
5 SHREK 2 $7,645,000

I'm surprised Shrek dropped to 5.

And as far as the person that said Garfield would only make $10MM this weekend, sorry but you're going to be wrong lol

I saw The Chronicles of Riddick and was actually surprised to find that it was a really solid sci-fi flick. In addition to great visuals and set design, it had lots of action that was (for the most part) exciting and comprehensible. One exception was during one scene when the sound was muted and the camera started shaking wildly so you had no idea what Vin was doing with those knives he had, or who he was killing. It had a decent story that was solid enough to move the action along, but probably wouldn't hold up under too much examination. Somehow the movie made the CGI feel at home and integrated in the film instead of making it stand out as a jarraing addition a la the Matrix Reloaded.

Overall a really entertaining and fun two hours spent at the theatre. It's nice to see a blockbuster that doesn't disappoint for once this year (lol Troy).

Just watched The Great Outdoors with John Candy and Dan Akroyd. I just bought the DVD yesterday.

I hadn't seen the movie since High School when it came out.

Still a funny and cute movie. I love almost all of the John Candy movies, except for Canadian Bacon which I thought was stupid.

And John Hughes wrote and produced it. The guy was Mr. 1980's director/producer. So what ever happend to him I wonder? hmmmm. now I'm going to have to go find out. lol

So I guess I'll give it 3.5 out of 5 stars.

John Hughes in the 90's is now making "family" movies. Off hand I can only think of "Home Alone" but I know there are a few others.

I just saw two movies.

50 First Dates
Adam Sandler has really lost his touch. This movie seemed to focus only on touchy feely crap and really bad sexual humor. Probably the worst Sandler movie after Anger Management. However, there were 3 311 songs in the movie so thats an extra star.

I was expected nothing from this movie, except for a few good laughs. Unfortunately it couldn't even deliver that. Not a very funny movie, and one of Stiller's worst films.

^^ I'm glad I didn't go see 50 1st dates. I was considering seeing that one in the theatres, and a friend said it was a rental, not to waste my money.

And Stiller has been in a slump ever since Meet the Parents IMO. I haven't seen anything of his that was all that funny.

There was one part that was so stupid it was funny...well actually a couple parts, mostly involving the rising sun on the plasnet Crematoriam (or however the name was spelled) that whole scene was so bad it was funny, but the best part was when the black guy stuck his head out only to get burnt to a crisp. I laughed my [butt] off at that. I could only wonder what he was thinking when that happened..."Gee, what's all the commotion out there? Let me find out, Damn, that's hot!!!..."

And as a teaser.

I just found out who the Fockers will be. Barbara Streisand and Dustin Hoffman!

That should be pretty funny. Streisand hasn't been in a movie in like 8 years.

Did you fly Delta recently? I know those were both in-flight movies.

I recently saw two movies on a plane, 50 First Dates and Starsky and Hutch. I thought Starsky and Hutch would be less than amusing, but it was really funny. Snoop Dogg has a great role and turns out to be the funniest character in the movie. I would give it ***1/2 out of *****

On 50 First Dates, I more or less agree with Phil. The ending really took a lot out of the movie as well. But about the same rating.

Just got home from seeing The Chronicles of Riddick.

Not a bad sci/fi - action flick. Vin Diesel has gotten better on his acting since XXX in my opinion.

And to see Judi Dench in a scifi movie was worth the price of admission.

*** Spoiler*******

Based on the ending, I guess we'll see a 3rd Riddick movie?!?

And if that transporter thing that takes them down underground was a new coaster, I'd be first in line to ride it! That looks so cool. Wish it was real

I never did see Pitch Black, and based on this movie I might go and rent it.

** Spoilers Ended**

Overall an entertaining, "popcorn flick" and I was surprised that they kept with the plot, although it's pretty simple. Many of these movies get really murky when it comes to the plot making sense.

I'd give it 3 out of 5 stars. It's fun, and sometimes funny. If you like scifi or action movies, you'll probably enjoy this one. But I wouldn't buy it on DVD.
