I was saw 311 in Memphis a few weeks ago for their big 3-11 Day show. It was a great venue, and they played for 5 hours so I had a great time.

I just saw Queen: We Will Rock you tour on Monday and it was incredible. Paul Rodgers did way better than I expected, and Brian May is still one of the greatest guitarists alive. I had 12th row seats right by the ramp they used, so I got some really good pics: http://community.webshots.com/album/548980917MRBbnB

I saw 30 Seconds to Mars last Thursday in Toronto. I cant even put their concert into words. The opening bands were not really to my liking, and apparantly a few people got hurt during Aiden's wall of death pit. I was near the back sitting on a big crate so I saw over everybody's head and got a great view. 30STM's stage presence and energy is just amazing, Jared had the whole crowd going. During one song he jumped half way into the mosh pit while still singing. On another song, he walked [on top] across the mosh pit, over to the bar, along the bar, and aonto the railing to see how us people in the back were doing. Setlist: A Beautiful Lie Capricorn The Kill Buddah for Mary Edge of the Earth Fallen Battle of One The Fantasy Was it a Dream (Jared solo...band joined in at the end) Attack At the end of the concert they had sign up sheets to be part of their next video. I filled mine out, got my pic taken and waited. Last night I got the call that I was chosen to be part of the video, but my cell was dead, so I actually recieved the message this morning when I was already in Toronto. Long story short, I didnt have enough time to go back home, get my suit and tie (required for video) and make it to the shoot in time ![]() So, when their video for "The Kill" is out, just imagine me there.

Last night I saw John Mellencamp in Reading, PA. The show was awesome. His band was really tight and didn't screw up at all. I was lucky to get 19th row dead center for the regular ticket price. The guy next to me bought his on eBay for above face value. Mellencamp isn't showing many signs of his age. It was a bit dissapointing that the show was only 1 hour 20 minutes long but it was amazing while it lasted. It was probably the best concert I've been to. Pink Houses was the highlight of the show IMO. Hopefully Bob Dylan will come around after he gets back from Europe this summer. I'll buy tickets the second the presale starts.

I got back today from the Wanee Festival at the Spirit of the Suwannee Park in Live Oak, FL. It started Friday afternoon and ended last night around midnight. I had an amazing time. There is much to say about the beauty of the park, the carefreeness of the atmosphere, the many people I met and the many things I did over the weekend, but I'll keep it limited to the music. Gov't Mule - Two shows, one Friday night and one Saturday. I didn't see Saturday's show but Friday was amazing. Warren Haynes is ridiculous. Derek Trucks Band - Played a midnight show on Friday. This was one of the best sets of the festival. Derek Trucks is AMAZING. If you haven't heard of him, check out some of his music either with his band or with the Allman Brothers. He's 26 and will one day be a legend. The following day he left for Europe to begin rehearsing with Eric Clapton, who he will start touring with in May. North Mississippi Allstars - I saw them once before, and twice at the festival. Luther Dickinson is another amazing guitarist, one whose skills will one day make his name a household name. The band plays with such energy and passion, an upbeat blues-country-rock with mindblowing guitar jams. If this stuff doesn't make you get up and boogie, I don't know what does. The drummer, Luther's brother Cody, also plays the electric washboard which makes for a very trippy experience in a song called Psychedelic Sex Machine. OAR - I don't like this band, and they were extremely out of place at this festival. I guess they were on the bill to make the lineup more appealing to a wider audience. Not very good. Honeytribe - Devon Allman, who is Gregg Allman's son, plays guitar in this band. He is really good. I enjoyed the show and will probably purchase their CD. Last night after the Allman Brothers' second show when everyone was hanging around the campsite jamming together, he showed up and played at the site I was chillin at. It was really cool, everyone sitting around the campfire drinking beers and making music. Lee Boys - Real cool jazzy, southern rock music with a pedal steel guitar. Only caught a few songs but I liked what I heard. Jack Pearson Band - Jack Pearson is a scorching guitarist! The keyboardist for this band is also really awesome. Medeski Martin & Wood - Not much to say about MM&W except that they are exceptionally talented and a joy to watch/listen to. Railroad Earth - Really cool bluegrass jam band. Allman Brothers Band - You know what you're getting with the Allman Brothers Band. Friday night was the current lineup with Derek Trucks, and on Saturday Jack Pearson filled in. The first night I got the crowd experience, and the second night I was in the front row dead center. While it was awesome to see the show up close, I like being in the crowd better. More room to move around and dance. Other bands that played that I didn't see: The Wailers (Bob Marley's band?) New Monsoon (sad I missed them, they are supposed to be crazy) Dumpstaphunk Bonobos Convergence (with Vaylor Trucks, cousin of Derek and son of Butch Trucks, original member of the Allman Brothers Band) Oteil and the Peacemakers (Oteil Burbridge, bass player for ABB) Definitely going next year!!! |

The Trans Siberian Orchestra - The "West Coast" band has family here in Sacramento (CA) so they are here every year. My wife gets claustrophobic in crowds so there are many concerts we don't see.

Talking about upcoming concerts, they just announced a concert in Kansas City in July with perhaps the strangest lineup I've ever seen, including 311, Dashboard Confessional, Yellowcard, Hawthorne Heights, Matchbook Romance, Morningwood, and some other bands I've never heard of. I like 311 and Matchbook, but I never would have imagined all of them at the same show. Odd lineup, but it should be fun. On a side note, Brand New is on tour, and I get to see them in June.

^Interesting comment about Hedley ![]() I'm going to NYC at the end of June to see Yellowcard. They're also going to have Matchbook Romance and Hedley there.... I've seen YC in Philadelphia at the end of January (AMAZING!), and I saw Matchbook Romance a few weeks ago in Allentown, PA (near Dorney)..but havent seen Hedley...guess I will soon! |

All these concert line ups sound the same... Edgefest 2 is on July 16, which I'm probably going to, and the headliners are: Yellowcard, Hawthorne Heights, All American Rejects, and Story of the Year. I'm still praying that 30STM gets added.

As of right now, the only concert I'm going to this summer is 311, The Wailers, and Pepper here in August. Another show I want to see is Reel Big Fish, MxPx, Streetlight Manifesto, and Whole Wheat Bread. They haven't announced dates yet though. I'm really going for Streetlight, but RBF is pretty good as well.

Fall Out Boy was here in Charlotte on May 2, with All-American Rejects. I was gonna go, but all the tix were up in the high rows all the way at the back of the arena, and I wasn't gonna pay for those crappy tix.

Are you serious. Now i feel stupid. I never heard anything. I would have loved to see both. Maybe their doing Atlanta sometime. I'll go there and of course hit SF. I did a search for Panic @ The Disco and they are going to be at the Myrtle Beach House Of Blues. Thats close enough.

^ Ha that festival would be like hell for me. The ultimate lineup had to have been the original Woodstock add Woodstock '94 to it and it can't be beat. The original had The Band, The Who, Hendrix, the list goes on and on. '94 Had Bob Dylan who passed on the oppourtunity to be in the first Woodstock for personal reasons. The '69 Isle of Wight Festival had a nice lineup too. Dylan, The Band, Richie Havens, etc...

I thought Sat's lineup in particular looked AMAZING! I really wanted to go, but it was our All College Day/weekend before finals, so timing really wasn't great for me.

The Aquabats. Chicago. June 3rd (I Think). Greatest, quirkiest band ever. I don't care if you've never heard of em', I like it better when nobody I know knows them. Anyway, this will be my second time seeing them live and I am psyched up like none other.

I think you are the only one on this site who likes good music. Good for you man, my musical tastes definitely weren't that mature when I was 15. The festival I would have most liked to attend would have been Watkins Glen Summer Jam in '73. It was the largest rock concert in history. Over 600,000 people showed up to see The Grateful Dead, The Band, and The Allman Brothers Band. Anyone going to Bonnaroo this year? I might go if I save up enough money. Not as great as some previous lineups, but there are definitely some goodies. Radiohead, Moe, Phil Lesh, Bela Fleck, Robert Randolph, Umphrey's, Medeski Martin & Wood, Blues Traveler... You guys are really making me feel old--I was at both Woodstock in '69 and The Glen in '73. I also saw the Beatles in '64 at their DC concert and got to meet them afterward at the British Embassy party. Fast forward to the present--April Fool and I are going to the Chicago/Huey Lewis & the News concert in Charlotte on 7/14.
