Madonna is at it again

It amazes me that after all these years people haven't figured out Madonna.

She does things that are crazy and outrageous for one thing: Attention. Attention = records sales and tickets sold.

It amazes me these people even give her the time of day, much less try and make a big stink over her concert anticts.

From Charlotte Observer (charlotte.com)

Quote:
Madonna's plans to stage a mock crucifixion during a Sunday concert in Rome have drawn fire from religious leaders, who have condemned the stunt as "an act of open hostility" toward the Roman Catholic Church.

During the concerts of her "Confessions" world tour, the American diva appears crucified on a mirrored cross while wearing a crown of thorns.

The prospect of the scene being repeated at the concert in Rome's Olympic stadium, some 2 miles from the Vatican, prompted Catholic officials to denounce the act as a publicity stunt in bad taste.

"To crucify yourself in the city of the pope and the martyrs is an act of open hostility," Cardinal Ersilio Tonini was quoted as saying in La Stampa daily on Wednesday. "It's a scandal created on purpose by astute merchants to attract publicity."

Muslim and Jewish leaders also condemned the fake crucifixion.

"It's not the first time Madonna stages such an act. We deplore it, we feel it is an act of bad taste," said Mario Scialoja, the president of the Muslim World League in Italy.

"We express solidarity with the Catholic world," said Riccardo Pacifici, spokesman for Rome's Jewish community. "It's a disrespectful act, and to do it in Rome is even worse."

In May, the Catholic League in the United States expressed its discontent for the stunt after Madonna performed it at the tour's opening concert in Inglewood, California.

"Knock off the Christ-bashing," Catholic League president Bill Donohue said in a statement. "It's just pathetic."

Still, tickets for the Rome concert were selling quickly, with only about 100 left by Thursday, news agency ANSA reported.

Following concerts throughout North America, the "Confessions" tour continues through Sept. 21 with dates in Europe and Japan.

In an e-mail to The Associated Press on Thursday, the singer's New York-based spokeswoman, Liz Rosenberg, said: "Madonna does not think Jesus would be mad at her, as his teaching of loving thy neighbor and tolerance is Madonna's message as well. The context of Madonna's performance on the crucifix is not negative nor disrespectful toward the church."

I agree that it's a pretty dumb and blatant attempt to gain attention (although I kind of admire someone who is that famous and still purposely pisses off so many people), but the church is just doing more damage by taking offense, and last time I checked blasphemy isn't illegal anymore. It's the same with the Da Vinci Code, which wouldn't have been nearly the phenomenon it was had the church just kept their mouths shut about it.

ATTN Catholicism: You do not own the world.

^ Exactly. Like the movie Last Temptation of Christ would have never made a bit of money if it hadn't been for all the protests.

I am a devout Catholic, and I wish everyone would just let Madonna do her thing. She has talent, although some may dissagree, and she is entertainment. (Hey, they sell "Pope" knick-knacks when he visits places - t-shirts, buttons, towels, etc. - and I'm sure someone makes a profit from it)

No one owns the world - it belongs to all. And God made Madonna, too!

If you don't care to see or hear her, don't watch or listen - it's that easy!

How old is Madonna now? How long has she been doing this? Hasn't she made enough money and gotten enough attention for 8,000 people alone? I'm tired of hearing her name and seeing her face/body all over MTV.

^ She's gonna be 48 next week. I actually think she looks better now than before, but I've seen enough. Same goes for Paul McCartney. He's 64, got more money than most people could ever dream of, and can't sing anymore. Yeah, yeah, yeah he's an ex-Beatle and all that, but really - if you go to one of his concerts, all you wanna hear is the old stuff 'cos the new stuff is crap.

Once again - if you don't like it, turn it off.

I love Madonna. She is one of my fav's. Although it may sound a bit weird what she's doing i really don't have a problem with it. I say just let here do her thing. As said before if alot of people mentions they were against it it would not be getting this much attention.

Funny enough I was flipping channels over the weekend and ran across Truth or Dare.

It was an ok movie, from what I watched of it. Some of it seemed staged, but there were some parts where it just seemed that she was not really mugging for the cameras and being genuine.

Le Bump

I actually got to check out this tour today, Bravo is running the Confessions tour.

Overall I really don't see why this particular song was controversial.

She was on-stage trying to convey that there are millions of children dieing around the world and that we should help.

It was all symbolic. I guess the officials of the Catholic church don't know anything about symbolism. It's not like most of Jesus' sermons were symbolic in method.

Overall though the show was just ok, musically I wish she would sing more of her old music. She only sang 3 of her classics. I just don't care for her modern music for the most part.
