Anyone Getting OSX Leopard?

I know there are a few Mac users on here, wondering if you guys are going to pickup the new OSX Leopard?

I don't think I'm going to, while it looks great and the new features look nice and all, I don't really think the price is worth the miniscule changes (Unless you guys can convince me otherwise).

Also, does anyone know if they will offer a cheaper "upgrade" price from OSX Tiger?

I've considered it...but the only thing that I don't know is if i'll be able to grab the iLife 06 software off my Tiger restore CDs and install them independently of Tiger. Otherwise I'm looking at buying both Leopard and iLife 08. If I do choose to buy though, it will be in a few months time after the kinks are hopefully worked out.

Absolutely, Time Machine, the New Finder, and all the new developer items alone (New games will require Leopard, I'm sur) are enough, not to mention the alleged speed gain for Dual Core processors.

And no, $129 is the cheapest they sell it for to standard Consumers. If it's like usual though, they'll have a $69 (I believe) Student discount. However, if you don't want to risk the student discount, Amazon has $20 off if you want to preorder.

I'm gonna just go pick mine up at the Apple Store though.

The academic price was announced to be $116

As for Time Machine, I believe that it requires a dedicated hard drive which could be frowned upon by some.

Yea I wouldn't want a separate hard drive for garbage.

As for me, I really like Tiger, and I'm sure Leopard will be great. But I won't spend money on it.

I'll probably end up cracking it off of someone's boot disk that
I know is getting a mac as soon as Leopard comes out. Or I'll find it on torrents. I forgot to put a what if in front of all that. That's illegal, and therefore I won't do it.

A possible speed gain would make me incredibly happy. I have the new iMac with Core 2 Duo. I'd love for it to go even faster.

Now I realize some problems that come with getting the new OSX...Will my current apps work with it? How will I get iLife 06 on here? (I don't want iLife 08 because many tell me iMovie got seriously downgraded).

Either or, I'm 100% satisfied with Tiger and still have yet to use all of its features and potential, I'll save Leopard for a new Mac, if I ever have to buy one in the first place.

You don't get iLife '08 with Leopard. All Leopard will do is overwrite your current OS (Tiger). Thus, all of your apps should work.

As for me, I'm waiting for the Mac Pros and MacBook Pros to be updated before I jump on anything with Leopard. This way I will have both iLife '08 and Leopard on board.

I didn't know we had this many members with Macs. I thought it was just Kyle, apsterling, and I.

Well I'm kind of confused, if all Leopard does is overwrite Tiger, isn't iLife 06 bundled with Tiger if you bought a Mac that came with it?

Confusion.

Geez Martin, forgetting someone? Anyway I'm not sure my Poor Old G3 iMac can run it. I'm hoping to find at least Panther to upgrade from NoCatName 10.5 .

The most current version of iLife (iLife '08) is bundled with Leopard when you buy a new Mac. If you are not buying a new Mac, Leopard and iLife come separately.

Sorry. .

You can probably find a copy of Panther on eBay.

Apple just names their OS after animals in the feline family. Microsoft goes by Win 97, XP, Vista, etc. and Apple goes by Panther, Jaguar, Tiger, and now Leopard.

BTW, your MacMini has Tiger--the current OS for 9 more days.

Does anyone find the new refinements kind of miniscule for a $130 dollar price tag? I don't find it that advanced over Tiger.
