Looks like Woodstock is going to happen in 2009, and I'm excited.
All I know now is what that article states, plus that there is a website for it, that is under construction. www.woodstock.com
Michael Lang and Woodstock Ventures LTD. Own the namesake and that domain, which I learned upon research, and I remember that www.woodstock.com was the website for the 1999 festival as well.
Michael Lang has confirmed several times that he has plans to have a 2009 festival with the Woodstock namesake.
Haha.
Any thoughts?
Anyone other than me going to go?
It's the concert of our generation.
And every generation deserves one.
Also.
Mellow The Band is reporting that they received an invite to the festival.

I just hope that 1999 doesn't repeat itself, where poor planning and heavy commercialization pretty much killed it. |

| | | I'll definitely be there. Hopefully all my favorite bands will have a new album by then, so I'll be able to hear everything. |

| | | I'm pretty much a hippy anyway. I might have to actually check this out. I'll be a senior then so it sounds like a good idea.
Only I like metal instead of pot.

| | | I have some major doubts about this.
They are going to have to do a lot of things different if they don't want the same outcome as 1999.

| | | Haha. Well it sounds like they are getting back to the roots of the original. Mellow The Band is pretty good, and they're a band that would fit in well.
I think they should get back to the roots. With more folk/experimental/psychedelic/blues bands.
But then again, back in Woodstock 1969, they got all of the most popular bands, so that's probally what they'll do this time, again. The reason with the rioting was because of the prices, the bands, and the heat. It was all an accident just waiting to happen.
They should allow people to bring food and drink. Bonnaroo does.

| | | That Daily Cardinal article was really good. I think it makes a valid point that the type of artists that would make the vibe as close to the original Woodstock as possible would be jam bands, folk artists, some people who performed in '69 and perhaps some "socially conscience" hip hop. I have been to several music festivals, though none were huge, with the crowds that those types of artists draw, and I really did feel like I stepped back in time. Getting a bunch of popular mainstream acts will never reproduce that vibe.
By the way, if you haven't seen it, Michael Wadleigh's "Woodstock" is a masterpiece. Highly recommended. |

| | | I think I've seen it. Is that the one where they show a lot of performances, as ell as different side things, like swimming in the pond or getting high by doing yoga?
Anyway, I think they should have older bands, but not restrain newer stuff too. Although I'm not sure it will go too well with some of the heavier bands. I can imagine it now, a line up with all my favorite bands. The modern psychedelic sounds of the Chili Peppers, Dandy Warhols, and Incubus, as well as the anti-establishment angst of Rage and Muse. And I feel like those are the two types of bands who could get invited.
And then, when all the smoke (literally) clears, the Who will start out, followed by the Dead, and then Roger Waters will begin to play Welcome to the machine, when David Gilmour reluctantly joins him.
Only then will I be able to die in peace.
As for what cobra is saying, I agree, you can never reproduce the vibe. Time changes. I think that they need to plan it in a certain way to be close though. Almost with a sort of lack of security. What I mean is, if they restrict what you bring in, and limit everything to lawful behavior, it will become very unlawful. I'm not condoning drug use with this statement, it will happen anyway, but this has to be an event where they let people just do what they want. Not to the extreme, but you get what I'm trying to say.
But remember, don't try the brown acid. |

| | | Not a good idea. I would expect a much worst outcome than in 99 unless they build 10ft high walls around the area and metal detectors and maybe about 500,000 cops.
Maybe put down some artificial turf and sell nothing but water. |

| | | I just don't think they should do this again! It just sounds like a big cash grab by a promoter trying to capitalize on the Woodstock brand. Nothing will ever have the same significance as the original event. |

| | | 99 was a disaster in so many ways I think.
The music was good though from what I saw back then.
If they would organize it better, it would be a good event.
I however have NO interest in staying out in the heat and mess for 3 days and camping and such.
I had my fill of that in boy scouts.
I'll watch the concerts from the comfort of my recliner.
The only mass concert I wish I would have been able to go to was Live Aid back in 85.
